music island

haha i'm starting to realize...as i master guitar and every song i hear i can play...every song starts to have its own unique shape in my head, like mostly a hypercomplex two dimensional shape like an island, or even more accurately, a Dali clock melting away as music, drugs, emotions, and art all work to bend our perceptions of time, because this island is one I traverse the circumfrence of on my guitar every repetition of a 4 beat cycle, like a clock. Wild.

Musical notation is silly. Why not make a map? I could notate all of a song on one page haha it would look like a topo map or something, usually like a shape with maybe a third sharp square edges, a third of its edges rounded and weird, and the final third of its edges just blurry and randomized. Each edge is a micro-beat in the song and the idea is for the first two beats (of four) in a jam you want repetition to draw in the ear, and the third beat expands, 4th beat destroys, and it repeats after 4. Still half repetetive is too repetetive. So then that golden tension, as the 2/3s creativity (non-squre edges in the music island map) starts to overcome the half-rigidity of the beat, that golden tension all enters into the picture and we start calculating music towards the golden ratio...0.618/1, which of course is fatly and grandly between half and two thirds out of one...
