You mentioned in your FAQ that you were a third wave rad feminist (as well as an intersectional feminism). I can't find any information on third wave rad feminism and from what I already know radical feminism and third wave have very different opinions. Can you please explain what third wave rad feminism is?
Yes! I would love to! I will try to keep in as brief as I can. (Sources are Women Across Culture:A Global Perspective, third edition, and Feminist Issues:Race, Class, and Sexuality, fifth edition)
The second wave feminist movement had three distinct groups withseparate schools of thought and theories: liberal, socialist and radicalfeminists. Basically, the second wave radical feminists fought the idea that women should be trapped in stereotypical gender roles.A huge criticism of this brand of feminism is that it alienates women who actually do want to be feminine and have children, etc. It was also basically reserved for promoting the rights of middle to upper class white women, and did not include any aspects of racism or classism. They equate womanhood with genitals in a really gross and creepy way, and therefore are exceptionally transphobic.
Third wave feminism took the idea that the personal is political to entire new level. They believe in practicing daily feminism and making every choice to challenge sexism. They focused enormously on the shared individual discrimination and fear of women regardless of their various background. They were the first wave to include, support and protect sex workers (they lobbied against pimp controlled sex-slavery and for self-defined sex work), They were the first racially and socio-economically diverse and inclusive feminists, they were refered to as ‘identity feminists’ because they suggested that a lack of labels was the new feminism, they inspired the feminist treatment theories for mental health and eating disorders, they were the first trans-inclusive wave of feminism.
I know I said I would keep it brief. I failed.
