Hot Take: Trunks hair should be blue?

Long story short Toriyama (rest in peace) has always been inconsistent with Trunks and Bulma’s hair color, many people seen and we learned this when DBS future trunks had blue hair like Bulma but kid Trunks was still purple

There have been various theories on this outside of Toriyama just being inconsistent such as hair maturing similar to blondes becoming brunette, to the anime production having trouble with purple hair so they changed it to blue for Bulma but they figured it out by the time Future trunks arrived, and so on

My opinion

My true opinion is that Trunk’s hair (both present and Future) should match Bulma’s hair

I get that the purple hair Trunks is more iconic and recognizable and some think cooler but it also never made sense he had purple while Bulma had blue and Vegeta the Saiyan black

So basically it comes down to which should be Bulma’s hair color the blue or purple?

Even in the manga's first two chapters, her hair was blue then it changed to purple for basically the rest of the series (which is why Trunk’s hair is purple as they just matched the manga)

Whereas in the anime Bulma’s hair was blue the whole time creating the hair confusion

And honestly the thing not many people bring up are the shades of the blue and purple

The lavender purple Trunks usually has in the anime and most games is a nice shade of purple at least on him

But the darker shades while still good it’s not what people think of so there's a perfect shade of purple for Trunks

Whereas the blue has had the most variations in shades throughout the years/series

Like I think in my opinion the anime DBS shade of blue on Bulma and Trunks is not the best shade of blue

(even here ^ it's slight but I like Bulla’s/Bra’s shade better here)

Let alone the initial confusion on whether he had super Saiyan blue since it matched that shade

I think almost any other shade of blue works better than the DBS shade of blue Bulma and Trunks has

This artist had a good drawing showing all the different shades Trunks and Bulma one or the other has had and while it’s not the perfect thing to reference I hope it shows what I mean

Which reinforced that I think if it was any other shade of blue I would like it more

I prefer Bulma with Blue hair (but maybe that's nostalgia in itself), so I think Trunks in turn should have that blue hair to match his mother

There's also a color coordination thing where the clothes future trunks wore in Super and what teen/present trunks wore during Super Hero made me like it better on present trunks as it went together better at least to my eyes

So I think if we don’t have that nostalgia for future Trunks in Z having purple hair I don’t think anyone would be up in arms when they changed his hair outside of general confusion or it being changed

Plus I think Bulma makes more sense with Blue hair and Trunks should match that

Coming from someone whose favorite color is purple :)

Obviously very opinion based as I truly do get those that think it should be purple

Like even from the original manga Bulma and Trunks should have purple despite the anime popularizing Bulma’s blue which in turn overwrote the manga in a sense that even Toriyama when designing that family later on in Super planned for both to be blue-haired and it was just the anime again doing something different by keeping kid Trunks hair purple despite Toriyama designing him to have blue

So it could literally go either way

Hex Codes with 8/118

Fun fact: Due to the formatting of Hex Codes for colors, one color can contain a maximum of 8 unique periodic symbols in its hex code. Hex codes can only have the letters A through F, leaving us with the following possible periodic symbols: Ac Ba B Be Ca C Cd Ce Cf Db Fe F. In order for a 6-digit hex code to contain 8 elements, it needs to contain all 3 possible single-letter elements (B C and F) and also have each pair of consecutive digits be a valid periodic symbol.

With the limitations, it turns out that there are actually only two possible colors that meet all these requirements, and they're both purple:

To the left, this dusty lavender is #CDBACF, containing, in order: C Cd Db B Ba Ac Cf F.

To the right, this more saturated lilac is #DBACFE, containing, in order: Db B Ba Ac C Cf F Fe. This one gets bonus points for containing every letter A through F exactly once by pure coincidence.

There are other colors that get very close to meeting the requirements, but they all either repeat a symbol (#BACACF, for example) or miss a possible symbol (usually F). I'll put a more detailed explanation of the process I used to find these under the cut.

A while ago, I made a spreadsheet for myself that sorts all the elemental symbols into rows and columns depending on their first and last letters. It's been very helpful for analyses, especially when it comes to tallying people's URLs. Here's the top left corner of that graph, which is the only relevant part for this:

If you really look at it for a while, you'll notice some interesting stuff. Most notably is that E is not the first letter on any of these symbols. This means that if you were to start your hex code with E, no matter what you put in afterwards will not make it a valid periodic symbol, and you'll be missing out on at least one element. E can be preceded by other letters (B C or F), though, so as long as E is the last letter of the hex code, it shouldn't cause problems.

There are also many symbols where they are the only possibility. If you have a C in the middle of the code, while you have many options with what to follow it up with (A, D, E, and F), you only have one option for the letter that could go before it to make a valid element: A for Ac. The one that makes the biggest impact is that F (a required letter in order to get its single-letter symbol) can only be followed by E and can only be preceded by C.

Combining the facts that F is required, F can only be followed by E, and E cannot be followed by anything, we come to find that F must appear in the final two letters of the hex code, which will either be FE or CF. When it ends with FE, well, F must be preceded by C, so we have CFE. Now both versions have CF, just slightly offset, so we can work backwards from there.

For C, the only option for preceding it is A, so now we have a guaranteed ending of ACF(E). A can follow either B or C, but if we choose C, that C must also be preceded by an A, meaning we have duplicate Ac's, and not all the symbols are unique. (This is what happens with #BACACF.) So, we have to choose BA instead of CA, for a guaranteed BACF(E).

Then, B can only be preceded by D, giving us DBACF(E). now, in the case where our hex code includes the ending FE, we already have the maximum of 6 digits, giving us #DBACFE. In the case of our code that ends in CF, we have one more available digit, and whatever it is must be followed by D. Looking at the chart, there's only one valid symbol that ends in D: CD. So, that gives us #CDBACF.

Attempting to deviate from these paths at all leads to missing one or more criteria, so these two codes are confirmed as the ONLY two codes that work.

And they're both purple.

Per me "colpire largo" é scelta voluta: le famiglie dei "martiri" di hamas ricevono generose pensioni oltre che prestigio sociale, ragion per cui cala il deterrente israeliano per "bilanciare" l'incentivo ad averci terroristi in famiglia. O a sentirsi eroi della solidarietà Ong in trasferta. Della serie, nessun pasto è gratis. Horse: What other fandoms are you in? Haha believe it or not, I'm not in any other fandoms. One is enough for me. I have other fannish interests! For instance, I watch a lot of anime, I play and embarrassing amount of Minecraft, I'm really into cryptozoology and creepypasta type stuff, and I used to be a pretty big Marvel fan... But I just don't really feel compelled to participate in other fandoms or create content for them. TES is my main sandbox.

Lavender: Character you like that everyone hates? Ohoho... this is an interesting one. Hmm... Well, I feel like a lot of the characters I like are pretty popular, but also easy to hate. Neloth, Ancano, etc. Snobbish wizards really hit me in my soft spot apparently lol. But I'd say I really genuinely like Astrid. She gets the shit end of the fandom stick too often. I don't like her as a person, but as a character she's absolutely fascinating and tragic. I recently replayed the DB questline in preparation for a story I want to write, and my OC really caught the feels for her. So it gave me a new perspective. I also really like Nazeem... or, more so, I like his potential. I had a story clanging around in my brain that involved him having to go on his own little hero's journey, but I doubt I'll ever have time to write it. He just seems like he'd be such a fun character to rebuild from Rock Bottom.

Windhelm: Which follower does (OC's name) have? LOL, well, since a lot of my OCs don't actually exist in-game, this is hypothetical. But the only one that's really stuck in my brain right now is that Sarel and Marcurio will end up traveling around together at some point.

rewrites with Millie after she was trashing the show a little, talking about how she can't wait for it to end so she can move on. Maybe the DB were like - oh, bet? Screen time slashed, have fun.

tbh the duffers also appear as mysteries to me, as well as mbb and the rest of the cast. theyre all outcasts in their own subtle ways, despite being big stars. i think they stayed those original kids at the back of the bus. for example, noah seems mainstream and basic bitch in his pop taste (<3) but i think he's a secret weirdo haha! he's just very quirky in how he even answers interview questions, so i can only imagine his true humour and chat when he's in private spaces with loved ones.

then there's millie, and i know you get bad vibes, but she confuses me! she seems really easy to have a laugh with, but the kind of friendship for me that could never go too deep. i would find myself gravitating towards her but wonder why, and wishing i could be closer with someone more reserved like finn i think. because thats more my kind of person and i love deep conversation and friendships. but i would have to make much more of an effort to go over and talk to finn and get to know him. this is all hypothetical if i worked with them lol.

so its like, mbb also seems kinda mainstream, but shes a weirdo too. she bought a house right next to her parents and she basically has a small farm holding. thats not normal by society standards, but it's not bad either - she seems kinda old fashioned, wanting to keep a community and family nearby, when so many young stars jet off to live in hollywood in a big empty mansion. and her product lines are so childish in their aesthetic and style, all that lavender and lilac, but she's also oddly mature and getting married this year? its so odd to me.

and captains of the weird ship - the duffers! when the show dropped most people i knew didnt even think they were real. just a pseudonym or something haha. theyre siblings and twins who work professionally together - already odd, somehow they manage such stress in a way most siblings could never. theyre clearly unhinged in the best way as can be seen in the thematic content of their show (true artists always are lol) and they give a chaotic energy where you never know their true intention: the show itself is somehow simultaneously wildly cheesy and yet completely unpredictable and genuine.

but in response to your original point, i think they do very much write for the actors, as can be seen most in dustin's spoken details in the show about his condition. we'll have to see if s5 drops mbb's screentime (i personally think that was inevitable whatever happened offset), and i havent seen these interviews where she said she cant wait for it to be over - but i certainly think they wrote for noah and finn's chemistry. perhaps not the storyline itself, but the details, certainly. you can see it in how they deliver lines - clearly deviating from the scripts and inhabiting these characters, riffing a little.
