I didn't watch the showcase because I didn't wanna spoil the songs but now I'm actually fucking terrified for tomorrow after seeing all of these posts, please pray for me🥲

What are your thoughts on Daughter of the Deep?

oh i have no thoughts on the actual book, frankly its not something I'm interested in because I'm not the core audience nor does it appeal content-wise. I've read 20000 leagues and it's chill, i just don't care to read about nemo's great granddaughter 😭 BUT i have lots of thoughts on the cover 🥰:

it's exactly what it should be! i haven't read the book obviously but i understand that there's two kids underwater and there's some super cool looking ship with dangers lurking!!! that's exactly what book covers should do 🥰

the painted style by Lavanya Naidu works excellently for a children's fantasy series. i always feel like children's books are more imaginative and a stock image can't do it for a kid... especially since it's fantasy. the

part of his diversity improvements is writing nonwhite characters. the protag here is Ana Dakkar who is indian, and its nice that he hired an indian artist as well

oh the font looks ugly though. i can only imagine it being good if it was actually embossed (raised/sticking out so you can feel it!) I'd argue that the white coloring is alright but the orange of his name feels a little much and too bold 🤔 perhaps go with the softer yellows of the submarine lights instead?

actually more on the title: the letters feel off. like it's three lines of text but it feels like it should be done with smaller gaps in between lines. I'm thinking something like this maybe?

→ very obviously not this font LMAO this was done in 2 mins, but u know, just the weird line spacing should be closer because it's reading as... kindle books title rn... actually his original cover's place holder would've been excellent with the spacing

okay .... more on this stupid title 😭 the little teehee flourishes referencing the ocean are cute but are unnecessary considering no shit it's on the ocean 😭 the cover and title itself clearly says that but the font doesn't need to. I'd say... keep the R because the octopus is so subtle but elegant. lose the U. maybe keep the D. i like the P but i feel like you gotta have either the D or the P not both. and certainly not P AND U

okay i SEE THE OCTOPUS AHHHHH this is actually related to the book. so one of the most famous parts of 20000 leagues is that there's this big squid that they fight LMAOO so hopefully that octopus is going to mirror that 🥰 riordan manages to do that mirroring in pjo a few times pretty successfully so that is such an exciting little easter egg if so

i hope the ship is nautilus

overall the colors are very calming though, and not... action-y or energetic so i hope they set the right tone there. there's no big flourish of BAM! but one would have to read the book to understand if that's even necessary

it's good tho, it fits the audience and the theme, but some things are a little off ultimately 💓💆🏾‍♀️
