In this 78 page Riso and inkjet printed publication, Graphic Design MFA students at the Otis College of Art and Design in LA discuss different contemporary design titles and produce graphic compositions inspired by each one! The result is a showcase of creativity and responses to design discourse and artist publications, reflecting the perspectives and talents of an international cohort.

What Can Books Do? is the outcome of a three-day workshop we did in June with 14 students. The publication was collectively printed and bound by the students on 3 paper stocks, with help from the incredible lab staff at Otis.

(JBW) One month after the recordings 'we are of dark rays' (joinedbywire.bandcamp.com/album/we-are-of-dark-rays) has been released online by JOINED BY WIRE, a project me (grm) had been following for quite a while with great interest and admiration, the COLDSORE recordings were conducted during xMESS'24. Later on, i invited and we agreed to do split-tape cassette release with our recordings under the same title/concept. Recorded with different means and approaches, but with what i consider to be a suitable atmospheric overlap, we here present 90min of long form guitar based experimental ambient noise and modular drum'n'drone. One side of our tape has been recorded in a span of about a year and the other recorded in one night. Listen to in the dark, while positioned horizontally to let the dark rays in.  C90 split-tape cassette, milky white cassette body with a black and white label on one side and a 3-panel fold out J-card in black and white laserprint in a standard cassette case with a shiny white back part. hand numbered, limited edition of 30 copies.

A Teardrop Falls In Every Marking: Fish Cages Around Laguna de Bay takes inspiration from the Laguna Copperplate Inscription (900 AD), the Philippines' oldest dated document. Discovered in 1987 near the mouth of the Lumbang River by a laborer named Ernesto Legisma, the inscription records a pardon issued by the Chief of Tundun (now Tondo, Metro Manila), clearing a man named Namwaran and his descendants of a debt equivalent to 926.4 grams of gold. Using found images from Google Maps, this publication captures the intricate forms of fish cages in Laguna de Bay, the country’s largest lake—a vital yet fragile ecosystem spanning 940 square kilometers. Producing up to 90,000 tons of freshwater fish annually and supporting 13,000 fishermen, Laguna de Bay is a lifeline for many. However, industrial pollution, agricultural runoff, and domestic waste have severely degraded its waters, threatening both livelihoods and ecological balance.

A Teardrop Falls In Every Marking transforms digital mapping into a tangible archive, inviting readers to engage with landscapes often reduced to data on a screen. Dan begonnen met Gelli prints te maken

Fouten die we hebben ondervonden:

1. Gelli werkt enkel met laserprints niet met inktprints

2. Dikte van de verf geeft veel verschil in het uiteindelijke beeld

3. Eerste blauwe laag moet droog genoeg maar niet te droog zijn om witte laag over te leggen

4. BELANGRIJK: Gelli werkt enkel met kleurenprints, met zwart-wit prints altijd slecht resultaat

5. Na veel te proberen om het goed over te brengen op karton gemerkt dat dit zo goed als nooit lukt

Op papier werkt het veel beter en komen de kleuren beter uit.
