Cahuita. Jaguar Rescue Center. C’est un refuge qui accueille les animaux accidentés, agressés, blessés, malades, maltraités, handicapés, inaptes à la vie sauvage en l’état. Beaucoup ont été électrocutés ou agressés par des hommes (toujours les hommes :)... Le refuge fonctionne sur le volontariat et les financements proviennent exclusivement des visiteurs. Pas de captivité puisque l’objectif des naturalistes est de pouvoir remettre en selle, ceux qui le pourront. Pour les autres, c’est une sorte de maison de retraite. 

Bel endroit, très instructif, dans lequel on peut approcher la faune locale de près, et voir aussi quelques bébés, dont les magnifiques paresseux ou encore les singes. Le but était aussi de voir un ocelot, un animal à la croisée des chemins entre le chat et le jaguar. Chances très très faibles de le croiser dans la nature, niveau Puma :). 

Pour les archives : même s’il ressemble à une peluche inoffensive, le paresseux est un animal plutôt agressif à l’état adulte (il a les mêmes gimmicks qu’un chat qui montre les dents, ses morsures sont puissantes et en plus ils griffent avec ses doigts façon Wolverine).

knew we would see big cats when we went to the Las Pumas animal rescue center in Cañas, Costa Rica. I didn’t know we would see a collared peccary in love with a three-legged deer.

Las Pumas and Zoo Ave Rescue Centers in Costa Rica Receive GFAS’ Excellence Accreditation

The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) certified the Zoo Ave Animal Rescue Center and Las Pumas Rescue center for their high standards in animal wellness and conservation of wildlife.
