I decided to restyle my precious Larvie Doll into some chiq-summer duds so I took this loose red top and fashioned it with accessories from this Barbie Milicent Roberts Fashion Pack.
I'm honestly surprised the fit worked as well as it did and damn does she rock it!

I'd like to do that "post your two most different dolls" meme but I can't figure out what's the broadest spectrum of my tastes.
Like is it Spongebarb to Charlotte? Gertrude to Discord? Sophia to Larvie? some other combo? Too many options.

I was literally packing up my entire life to move halfway across the world when the Larvie doll Kickstarter by American Toycoon was announced. Finances were very tight, but I knew I would regret it if I never did, so I backed her on the same day it was announced. Needless to say, I was amazed by how quickly Larvie came together and got shipped here, considering how time-intensive producing a doll from concept to product can be.
I ended up getting a brunette one because most of my vintage Barbie collection are brunettes and I felt she would need to match, plus I liked the fact she had this option despite what the pop culture idea of Barbie has become.
I'm really impressed at how much care and quality went into this doll because you can see all the touches of vintage-era Barbie shine through in the packaging, from the staircase in her packaging to the art design on the box and aesthetic choices.
This was a passion project that had such passion poured into it that I adore her so much and I'm so proud to own her now.
Her second run at Indiegogo runs out on the 14th of December so grab one before she squirms away!

Larvie Kickstarter is live
I'm not editing to include a photo, because, although it is highly stylized, it's still half Barbie half worm, and a lot of people may not want to see that

This is a long one, and actually came out more negative than I originally intended, mostly because I genuinely do want to see indie projects succeed, and I am really frustrated at the mismanagement of this one. Feel free to put this under a read-more, @mod! Plus Dolls are a mess. I don’t mean the concept of plus sized dolls, I mean the fashion doll company Plus Dolls (formerly Curvy Girls Dolls).
From their shockingly bad (and thankfully cancelled) Kickstarter years back where it was horribly obvious they had no idea what they were doing and were not ready to bring a product to manufacture AT ALL (every backer would have lost their money, I can guarantee it), to the YEARS since of them taking money via patreon for their idea with virtually zero to show for it. At best, they had to pivot to making a BJD because the only artist they could work with (for some reason?) could only do BJD joints (for some reason???), and even that hasn’t actually happened. Even if it does happen, it won’t do well because their core audience were people expecting to get a fashion doll for $20, not $500. In the time since, we’ve seen a generation’s worth of fashion dolls, we had the time before, during, and after a whole pandemic, we’ve seen BJD companies and artists come and go, and Plus Dolls haven’t managed even half a single proof-of-concept prototype. Hell they haven’t even managed a pitch. They made more progress before their ill-thought-out Kickstarter than they ever have after.
I get making stuff is hard, but they’re happy to just take people’s money month on month for YEARS with virtually nothing to show for it except one cleaned up 3D model courtesy of the artist they hired early on. For God’s sake, please learn from your peers in the industry you’re trying to get into and actually start making progress! Look at the efforts Wild Childz went to, or Larvie the Teenage Fashion Maggot! Talk with those designers, there are fashion doll designers on Instagram right now who will happily talk industry with you - hell maybe they’ll even have a connection for you, could be right place right time. Just… do something that isn’t showing the same 3D model you’ve had for years!

What’s the rarest doll you own?
i don't own rare dolls, really, because my collection only goes back to the 90s. I would say probably my Bratz flashback fever Cloe doll and her complete accessories (I'm going based on ebay cost to determine rarity). in box she goes for like $500. out of box, with complete accessories, she goes for like half of that. i got her at my first flea market for $12, setting me up for a lifetime of being disappointed at every flea market i go to lmaoo.
but in terms of the number produced in the world, maybe Larvie would be my rarest doll? the brunette is still available, though, so not hard to come by if you're willing to spend the money.
#thanks for asking i simply love dolls#you have no idea how attentive i am to my falshback fever cloe accessories#they're in a bag in a box in another box lmaoo
