I wanted to share one of my favorite experiences as a wrestling fan. I had to the opportunity to meet the legendary wrestling valet, ‘ The Perfect 10 ’ Baby Doll. She was one of the top valets in the 1980s. She accompanied Dusty Rhodes , Tully Blanchard , Ric Flair , Jake The Snake Robert’s , The Midnight Express , Larry Zbyszko , Gino Hernandez , and others. She started out as a wrestler named Andrea The Lady Giant. This gimmick was a punk rock inspired one. I have to say, she is one of the coolest legends I’ve ever met. She is super nice and I loved meeting her. I can say she’s the reason why I’m a valet myself. Thank you Baby Doll for being so good to me and other fans. Thank you for inspiring me to get into the business to be a valet.

Hey Everyone,

I just finished a blog post about nonverbal communication in Mexico, and I had a blast writing it! I wanted to share some highlights with you because I think it turned out great and you might find it interesting.

So, you know how important nonverbal cues are in any culture? In Mexico, they really pack a punch! Nonverbal communication is deeply woven into social interactions, and it conveys so much, for example, warmth, respect, and closeness. This is particularly important because understanding these nonverbal cues can help avoid misunderstandings and make our interactions smoother. Plus, it helps us appreciate the beauty of Mexican culture.

For instance, personal space in Mexico is a lot smaller than what we’re used to in places like North America. When people talk, they tend to stand closer together. It’s all about that connection! If someone seems distant, it might come across as uninterested, which is the last thing you want to communicate. I found this insight in Communication Between Cultures by Larry A. Samovar and his crew, and it really stuck with me.

And get this Mexican communication is often described as "high-context." That means a lot of the meaning comes from the situation, tone, and body language rather than just the words spoken. This can be tricky for outsiders. For example, making direct eye contact might be seen as friendly in some cultures, but in Mexico, it can signify respect and attentiveness (Kelm et al., The Seven Keys to Communicating in Mexico). So, knowing these subtleties can make a huge difference!

Speaking of gestures, Mexicans love to express themselves with their hands. A "thumbs-up" means approval, and a firm handshake while maintaining eye contact shows mutual respect. Also, touch is pretty common among friends and family, you might see light embraces or pats on the shoulder, which signify closeness and acceptance. However, in business settings, it’s a bit more reserved until trust is built (MexConnect, 2020).

Now, about personal space! Like I mentioned, it’s smaller than what we’re used to. People might touch your arm when speaking to show engagement, which could feel a bit weird at first if you’re not used to it. But recognizing its cultural significance can definitely help you feel more comfortable when interacting in Mexico.

When it comes to time, Mexico leans more toward a polychronic culture. This means people often see time as flexible. Relationships and personal commitments take precedence over strict schedules. So, if you’re in Mexico and someone runs late, it’s not necessarily a sign of disrespect it’s just how they prioritize connection (Samovar et al., 2017).

Overall, understanding these nonverbal cues in Mexican culture can really enhance communication. It’s all about respecting their values of warmth, closeness, and flexibility. I found the whole process of writing about this fascinating, and I think it’ll really help anyone looking to connect more deeply with Mexican culture.
