Interesting facts about elephants
Elephants are the largest territorial mammal. They are also known as “proboscideans” or “trunked creatures”. They have an enlarged body with grey wrinkled skin, a pair of large incisors forming tusks, two large ears and four massive legs to carry their enlarged body.
Tumblr media
The elephant has the longest gestation amongst the land animals which is about 22 months(640 to 660 days). Elephant’s baby is known as “calf”.
Elephants need a large amount of food because of their massive size. A full-grown elephant can eat up to 240kg of plants over 16 to 18 hours
Elephants can excrete continuously as they feed about 15 to 18-time per day. Their dungs can be almost 100kg in a day. They can digest up to 45 % of their feast. Their dung contains a lot of fibres and can be used to make paper sheets.
Elephants are the first animal to communicate infrasonically when they are separated by vegetation. They communicate through vibrations. They can hear sounds or vibrations through their feet. These calls cannot be perceived through the human ear as the frequency range is 14-24 Hertz.
Elephants are socially grouped animals that are led by a matriarch. “Matriarch” is known as the oldest female in the group. They make a large herd with females of varying ages and little immature males. The males isolate themselves and associate with the group for the mating purpose.
Tumblr media
Elephants spread mud all over the skin to protect themselves from the ultraviolet rays coming from the sun. Mud act as a sunscreen for their skin.
The core body temperature of an elephant lies at 35.9⁰C(96.6⁰F). Elephant can alter their body temperature due to extreme environmental conditions.

One of Namibia’s most famous elephants was killed last week in what the government deemed a necessary killing, but local conservation groups are slamming the notion. The 50-year-old alpha elephant bull, popularly known as Voortrekker, was shot by a trophy hunter on a “problem elephant” permit in the Omatjete area, according to local news outlet Independent Online. #isharecauseicare #love #sharelove #kindness #elephant #iloveelephants #elephantlove #iloveanimals #wildlife #africanelephant #asianelephant #stoppoaching #stopivorytrade #extinctionisforever #animalrights #amazingcreatures #largestmammal #safari #animalsofinstagram #lovelyelephant #wildworldfriend #makeadifferencetotheworld #handinhand https://ift.tt/329OFm7

I'm a girl who loves elephants 🐘 I had been to a lot of different cities on earth but I had a dream - A dream to step into the land of South Africa to see the wildlife animals, the beauty of nature, the different culture, to watch the seasonal great migration (I love Lion King ✌️), to watch one of the best sunset in the world, to watch stars under the dark skies, to meet new friends from the other side of the world ( I'm from the east 👩🏻), to experience different culture, to meet the happy faces ( Heard from friend : African are the most grateful people she had ever met). I always believe that wildlife and wild places could enrich our spirit and our soul in a powerful way. I have learned a lot about elephants and wild life animals by creating this instagram account. I do not have the power to stop the poaching, but I wish to create awareness to people that animals need our help, together we can make a difference 🙌🏻 #isharecauseicare #love #sharelove #kindness #elephant #iloveelephants #elephantlove #iloveanimals #wildlife #africanelephant #asianelephant #stoppoaching #stopivorytrade #extinctionisforever #animalrights #amazingcreatures #largestmammal #safari #animalsofinstagram #lovelyelephant #wildworldfriend #makeadifferencetotheworld #handinhand http://ift.tt/2uJ8aUF
