vos has entered the hanahaki au group chat <3
“There is one more thing, Obi-Wan,” Healer Che says as he is smoothing down his robes, holo scans of his lungs clutched in one hand.
“Force,” he snaps, “what else is there?”
I’m dying, it’s unavoidable this time, it’s because of my own foolishness, it’s because of my uncontrolled heart, it’s because of my own weakness. I’m dying and there is nothing to be done except allow it to happen and now you tell me there’s more?
The smile she gives him is one part wry, two parts sad. A sliver of his pride rankles at the perceived pity, but he should probably get used to it. Eventually, he will be incapable of hiding his condition, and everyone will look at him the way Che is now.
“It is rare that we must give a terminal diagnosis,” Che says. “When we do, it is our practice to contact the patient’s emergency contact, pull them back from their mission or their leave should they be outside the Temple, so that the patient does not have to come to grips with the news by themselves. But given the nature of this disease, I want to have your explicit consent before moving forward. Do you agree to allow me to reach out to your emergency contact?”
Obi-Wan looks at her and then scrubs a hand over his face, letting his shoulders drop. “Force,” he says, drawing out the word like a curse. There isn’t really much in the way of a choice, though he appreciates Che for taking the time to frame it as one.
After all, his emergency medical contact will find out soon anyway. Best to give him permission to abandon his mission before he does so of his own volition and looks to pin the blame on Obi-Wan’s shoulders.
“Fine,” he says. “Fine, you may contact him. Tell him I’ll be in the Room of Some 30 Odd Fountains, meditating. He’ll know what I mean.”
And it’s truly a mark of how dire the situation is that Healer Che does not point out that she is not his messenger nor his secretary. Instead she inclines her head, and shows him out of her office, smile falling gracefully into an unreadable expression, tinged with sorrow.
Not without empathy, but without pretense.
—------------
“Do you think Skywalker knows I’m still listed as your emergency medical contact?” Vos asks, dropping into the empty seat across from Obi-Wan and immediately leaning forward to steal his drink. “Because if he doesn’t, I think I’m best suited to break the news myself.”
“I do not wish to speak about Anakin Skywalker,” Obi-Wan says, stealing his drink back from Vos’ wandering hands and downing it in one go.

Seeing @unpretty post her fountain pen inks inspired me to share some of my own. All of the inks except for the DeAtremis are ones I'd purchased at one point or another but hadn't used. One of the Jinhao X750s is fitted with a Tachikawa G nib that I'd spent last night carving the feed down to fit. Sadly, I then discovered that G nibs are not compatible with lefties, so ignore the terrible writing and random splotches of green ink from where the pen tines would catch in the fibers and cause ink to fling everywhere.
I swatched on three papers: HP Premium 24 lb and two Daiso notepads (most Daiso paper is coated and very nice for fountain pens). I tried the two Diamine shimmer inks (Night Sky and Winter Miracle) in both F and M nibs to see how much shimmer was visible in each.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There were a number of surprises. I haven't used Diamine inks very much previously, so I hadn't expected them to be so wet. Some of them feathered even on my Daiso papers. In terms of colors, I thought I'd like Elf much more than I did; it appeared on the more olive end of green in the pictures I saw online but it was more of a Kelly green in real life. A perfect match to the pen I put it in, but not a color I particularly enjoy writing in.
Tumblr media
I also liked Twilight a lot more than I thought I would. I'd bought a six-pack of the 15 ml ink bottles because I liked the other colors, so I wasn't expecting much from this. However, it is a really beautiful desaturated bluejean color and reminds me of the ocean right before a storm.
The Colorverse Brane ink was loaded into a pen with a fude nib, which was new for me. I love how I can get anywhere from a fine to a stub-sized line with this nib.
Tumblr media
Brane has an intense blue-green shimmer that is very noticeable and contrasts beautifully with the olive green ink in real life, even though it comes out very underwhelming in pictures.
Tumblr media
Conversely, in real life Night Sky's silver shimmer seems pretty underwhelming, but it pops in pictures.
Tumblr media
Finally, Winter Miracle has an intense blue shimmer that pools almost like a sheen, but I couldn't find any hint of the gold sheen even on the Daiso papers (which are normally really good at showing sheen).

what's good about a pilot falcon?
HI! The Pilot Falcon (older generations were sold in the US as the Namiki Falcon for whatever reason) is a japanese fountain pen manufactured by Pilot!
it's often referred to as the best modern flex pen, or the best gold nib for a beginner! Tldr for people who aren't pen nerds, a flex pen is a pen that...well, flexes! Most pens have some sort of "flex" to them that results in some sort of line variation, but flex pens can handle a relatively higher amount of pressure. Think like a G nib used in a lot of manga. Old pens were the MASTERS at this, and a good bit of that is due to the nibs being made of gold, which naturally has a "bounce" to it that modern steel nibs have a really hard time living up to. Most people wax poetic about Waterman or other vintages like that because of it. Even modern gold nibs can't really keep up with the gold nibs of yore, but the Falcon is considered to be one that can. I do think legally it's considered a "soft" nib, meaning it's not truly a flex pen but has a lot of flex qualities to it, but some terms that get used are used interchangably so. idk. True flex nibs aren't really a thing in fountain pens these days outside of Noodler's Ahab and Konrad (which are their own nightmare and a half tbh).
The Falcon prized amongst artists for it's very fine nib, which Japanese pen manufacturers like Pilot and Platinum are known for. A Japanese Fine is comparable to a Western (Kaweco, Lamy) Extra fine, and a lot of these pens come in an EF, F, and M. It gets alot of nice line variation despite being so small, and is really an all-around great pen, if legend is to be believed :] An alternative to buying the Pilot Falcon would be getting the Pilot 912 FA, which has something called the "Falcon Nib," not to be confused with the actual pen. They actually look pretty different. The FA nib (right) has these weird cuts on their side that help with flexing and allow it to mimic a full-flex nib, but again. According to legend, modern pens don't flex like vintage pens do, but it IS pretty close.

(sources mentioned in alt text)
I've never used either myself, but I'm pretty picky about my pens and so I don't know if I'd ever pay upwards of $200 unless I got familiar with the nib first tbh....The falcon's nib isn't offputting to me like many feel about it, but I'm particular about aesthetics and the feedback on paper and I can't tell if I like them just from looks alone lol. Right now, I don't have much experience with pilot nibs, but if i were to get a pilot pen, tbh I'm looking at the Pilot Elite/e95s in a fine or medium, or a vintage platinum pocket pen.
Anyways that's that and this is also that. *twirls so elegantly and then collapses onto the ground in slapstick fashion*
#im a dweeb#im picky enough about pens that if the nib isnt particularly pleasing (good examples are Visconti Pelikan or Parker nibs)#or particularly unique (examples are Regalia Crossflex and Trilogy or most Music Nibs)#im not particularly drawn to them. superficial and so on#I really like inlaid/inset nibs like the Platinum Carbon or old Pilot desk pens. or the aforementioned Pilot Elite#The Shaeffer Quasi-imperial is PARTICULARLY sexy in design with the diamond inlay tbh#a good flexy or at least bouncy pen can be EF or F for me (sometimes F is actually too large like with the Platinum Preppy)#i tend to benefit from thin nibs anyways (and gold but bouncy steel is good too) because the inks i use are wet#so im not always picky about nib size. but i AM also rlly picky about pen body shapes and a lot do NOT speak to me#I like desk pens bc of the tapered tail but they really aren't suited for travel. but i dont care much for the classic cigar shape of pens#i like how twsbi pens are shaped. i strongly dislike lamy's shape these days. flat top and torpedo pens are better imo#Benu makes both beautiful and gaudy pens and the dream would be a regalia crossflex in either a benu or something truly atrocious#like a custom fountain pen themed after my lonesome cowboy by takashi murakami. no i wont elaborate no dont look that up#alas fountain pens are an expensive hobby and ppl can be a bit dickish about 'lower quality' pens so its not very newbie friendly#esp on reddit. some ppl are so obnoxious tbh. i like the tumblr fp fans way better theyre a lot more helpful and not married to brands#OK THATS ENOUGH SORRY YOU GOT THE RAMBLINDS OF A LUNATIC ITS MIDNIGHT GOOD NIGHT ANON#not art

your outfit's entertaining. i'll give you that. (Javert, possibly but not necessarily while they're still prickly with each other XD)
AS SAID BY DORIAN PAVUS [accepting!]
Tumblr media
Why, if it wasn’t her favorite Producer. Blue eyes rolled at the remark, and a debonaire pursed lips tugged to a grin at the presence of her esteemed rival and significant annoyance, M. Aristide Javert.
“I do live to entertain~” vanity if ever there was. She waved in front of her an ornate fan - painted birds on white silk and brimmed with white feathers (matching the white feathers decorating the side of her hair), before holding it up to her left ear - that is in the secret language of fans meaning, I wish to be rid of you. Of course, this was matched with a proud smile. “So coming from you, I'll take that as a compliment~”
Priscilla glimmered like a male peacock - literally, in an azure blue velvet gown with peacock feathers adorning her neckline, train, and skirt. And yet the bustle gown fitted her to perfection and accentuated every vision of her flattering physique. Designed probably by Charles Worth, who by now was the primary source for Priscilla's wardrobe. The overall look was avante-garde and practically sang: look at me, but that’s what Divas do best, being the center of attention. Around her neck was also the latest necklace gifted by one of those revolving dandies - M. Guy Thibault this time?
“And what color ribbon did you select to tie your mane this time? Burgundy, wine, or scarlet?”

Can I be livid for a sec? Ive spent all these years in the pandemic being one of the few doin my part, vaccinating as much as possible and social distancing and wearing masks everywhere and not even leaving the house unless absolutely necessary. A sisyphean attempt to do literally anything about the spread of covid, because so few even care to do the bare minimum at this point. So I have to sit and watch while this small group of people on this godforsaken Earth are giving up opportunities and funtimes left and right to protect our loved ones, and the immunocompromised, and ourselves and everyone else, while the selfish majority don't give a shit and literally do whatever they want, passing strains of covid amongst themselves like its a game of hot potato and. Usually I can ignore any pings of jealousy and reassure myself that at LEAST. There's one less vector to spread the illness, and that keeps at least those around me safe, and I continue finding enjoyment in safe and quarantine-approved ways, but.
Today I got a text message from my dad, which is not unusal in itself, but opening it I realized it was a photo of my abuela. Sitting across the table from my dad in her rustic little house in spain, in the rustic little village that I've visited every summer for most of my childhood. The place I've considered my favorite on earth for most of my life and that I've held in my heart so fondly that nearly every night, I dream about being there again. The place I haven't been to in years as part of the many sacrifices I've taken to combat the pandemic. And yet my dad, part of the selfish and skeptical majority, took the risk without a second thought and unceremoniously come into contact with the disease-spreading, equally uncatious masses at the airport, sat in a largely un-masked airplane for 11 hours and is now having supper with family I've been trying to protect this whole tine. He doesn't consider whether he'll bring covid to them first before bringing it to his family back in the US, he doesn't think about the likleyhood of grandma, nearing her 90's, being able to survive such an ailment, and I just know that he will not give the fact that he couldve spread covid more to the hundreds of other people a second thought. He'll sleep soundly in my favorite room, he'll have fun in my favorite places, and he'll see my favorite people all while being so in-denial about the pandemic that his conciousness will remain clean the entire trip. And this time I'm dizzy with jealousy and rage, I'm sad and homesick and frustrated and worst of all, I can't express any of my feelings to my dad or mom or any family because they'll just laugh at me for being so paranoid and tell me to come over anyway. I'm not sure I'll ever see my beloved Requena ever again, nor any of my family nor resident friends because it seems that almost everyone in the world has forgotten that we're still in a pandemic, yet those self-entitled enough to participate in this collective amnesia can have fun and do whatever without a thought for the consequences they bring. I'll be huddled at home with thise large, gaping, emotional hole in my chest while people like Dad continue on like nothing's ever happened and we all have to suffer for it. It's not fair. I'm so close to tears, I'm just. So devistated and heartbroken. If you don't do your part to quarantine to the best of your ability and practice basic pandemic saftey when out, I hate you. You're awful and I hate you.
