One of our members, Nariné, recently shared a piece of mail she received from pen pal Rhea, which demonstrates an incredibly clever (and lovely!) way to add extra letter-writing space to a card. We appreciate the inspiration and can’t wait to try this for ourselves!

LA Pen Pal Club Compendium, 1/4/17

We gathered and began the new year with our pens to paper, of course. Nikki shared a 37¢ floral postage stash her mom had saved; we met Kate, who brought letterpress printed cards from her beautiful line (Of Note Stationers); and Ashandra came well-prepared with Valentine's Day ephemera. Thanks to all who joined for the evening!

LA Pen Pal Club Compendium, 5/4/16

Last week the LA Pen Pal Club reconvened at Margaret’s DTLA studio. It was our final meeting at this particular place: the Paper Pastries Atelier is relocating to Seeley Studios in Glendale!

•On that note, Paper Pastries is having a moving sale this weekend, May 14–15. Come shop 12–6PM Saturday and 11AM–4PM Sunday. 453 S Spring Street, Suite 804 in Downtown LA.

•Our neighbor Jena from Fold Gallery at The Last Bookstore shared about an upcoming calligraphy workshop at her Pasadena location, the evening of Friday, May 13. This will be the start to a regular series of workshops.

•Jo Bozarth brought an old children’s etiquette book called Manners to Grow On, by Tina Lee. We were delighted by the section on Letters (see images above)!

LA Pen Pal Club Compendium, 3/29/16

Last month we had an awesome opportunity to gather our pen pals and stationery for an evening at Announcement LA, an event and coworking space run by a group of talented creatives. 

We spread out our supplies, stretched our arms, and got to it. Some highlights:

•Postalco’s Letters and write_on’s Reasons to Write zine provided inspiration.

•Jo Bozarth shared a pack of her new favorite pen. It writes so delicately and smoothly! Note: perfect for anyone who outputs tiny handwriting.

•Nariné Riley supplied us with some of the latest from The Grits!

•We received a card from Rhea Abramson in NY, who is going beyond April’s National Letter Writing Month with an entire #yearofsnailmail. Her card to LA Pen Pal Club was #89 of 366!

Lastly, Margaret was absent but for good reason: she was home to enjoy her new 1-month-old, Ellis Rose. We can’t wait til Ellis is ready to attend our meetings!
