‘perfume’ is mentioned 50 times in the entire series and almost all of it is either a) as a contrast to some bad scent or b) as specifically HIDING some.. rottenness. im talking like 80% of mentions here. i mean it's classic ‘look the innocent flower be the serpent under it’ stuff, but there's this constant association with hedonism and richness just covering up stench and rot and all manner of horror. like... chivalric paradigm as physical rot, baby! holy shit! what does it all mean! is this literary analysis
