@melemeleguardian I really just wanted an excuse to use some of those new icons
Lucas sits up, looking like he's been through not one but two world-ending cataclysms. His habit of wearing really bulky clothes all the time certainly doesn't help with his sensitivity to hot weather, but at least this time he had the sense to take some layers off before perishing in glam.
Not quick enough for it to make a big difference, but it's an improvement!
“Yes, please.” He mumbles. Then, after a moment of consideration, he figures that there's something important he should ask. “Where are you gonna find snow in short notice?”

Daily Life
The Aether Foundation was kind enough to lend me some members for my second trip up Mt. Lanakila. These members were mostly from regions with a much higher average snowfall than Alola so I was able to learn more about this in both a scientific and cultural aspect. There was a fresh snowfall from the night before so I was able to obtain untouched samples. It also meant that I was up to my knees in the mystifying substance. Here are some pictures I manages to get:
These first ones are of a small tree that was completely buried. Next to it is my own footprint where my foot sunk down far enough that I nearly got stuck. For the rest of the trip I made sure to follow the Aether Members advice, and only walk where they walked.
These next two are of one of the sample collection sites. The snow was extremely soft and crumbly which I guess was to be expected. At one point I tried taking off my visor to get a closer look which I regret. Snow easily reflects light. I think I can still see the spot where it started burning my retina.
Finally, a picture of a “snow-ball”. This is constructed entirely of snow and is formed through compressing the small flakes together. I was told that a slight increase in temperature can make them stick better. I even got to witness a “snow-ball fight” in which these objects are thrown at others until someone gives up.
I was sadly unable to see a “snow-man” (this is a sculpture made to represent a human and is typically formed by large snow-balls stacked on top of one another) because the snow was not “packy” enough. I am assuming this refers to the density of the snow.
This time I will make sure to store my samples properly. The Aether Foundation employees that went with me have proposed a second expedition. They think a second will be useful to show me “sledding”. I am intrigued.

I. This professor is a very nice guy but does he always have his shirt off? Please tell me he is capable of wearing shirts
At least he was appropriately excited about Lady's Infernal Parade... and Rotom lol
- @fire-type-problems
Professor Kukui is one of the nicest people I have ever met and in all my years of knowing him, I have not once seen him wearing a shirt.
I think he’s allergic.
But yes, as a professor that specializes in Pokémon moves he was incredibly excited. Overly so, sorry about the whole er.. “Shoot the fire things at me, woo!”
His research methods are peculiar to say the least. But he is well accomplished in his field so…
#He didn’t wear a shirt on the peak of mount lanakila#you know. the place where it snows frequently and is incredibly cold.#He scares me sometimes.#-Pluto#unreality#pokémon

isn’t it weird that the cold/icy areas in every pokemon game are always near the end of it? with the highest level pokemon? its like cold is always associated with tougher pokemon even though ice isn’t nearly the strongest type in terms of matchups. they do it with gym leaders too where if they’re not an elite four they’re at least badge six
#pokemon#pkmn#in terms of areas though#you seriously never get one before like badge six besides the cold storage in bw1#and even then the giant chasm exists#mt lanakila and alabaster icelands for games without badges#i wonder if people in universe would consider ice types very strong despite their lack of resistances

Women’s moto exhibition by Lanakila Macnaughton
Lana a créé récemment un événement vintage Paradise road show .
Cette vidéo montre bien l’état d’esprit sur vent de liberté et créativité de ces femmes craquantes. Film by Austin Will // BEHIND THE SCENES // LANAKILA MACNAUGHTON

Now that I finally got some important schoolwork out of the way, I can get back into the Christmas spirit!
I went with an Alolan Ninetales since it has such a gorgeous design that fits well with this piece. (Too bad it’s such an annoying adversary on the battlefield...)
I haven’t made a new photomorph in a month. Hopefully, all of that will change during the next few weeks.

Mt. Lanakila
The tour of Mt. Lanakila was astounding. First of all, the snow. Each individual flake (I think that's the term) couldn't be larger than a fingernail. The reason why it covers so much space is because of the quantity and the fact that the flakes do not merely compact but instead rest on top of each other due to their light weight. Once compressed it becomes a bit more manageable in size, although still mildly absurd.
The Pokemon League of Alola was certainly a feat of engineering. Building at such a high elevation most likely posed a challenge and doing so without disturbing some of the rock formations unique to the area makes it an even greater accomplishment. The Champion was not present while we were there but I did get to watch a practice match between a few of the Elite four. It was extremely out of my realm of causal understanding. I was sent a copy of the match so I will examine it for strategy later. I was told that the entire structure had been built with these kinds of pokemon battles in mind and was reinforced to withstand direct attacks from especially strong pokemon.
