Genocide flattens every discussion. There are no new conversations to be had about the destruction, death and cruelty. After more than a year, there is nothing left to be said about various media houses, corporations and international bodies of law aiding and abetting all that has been happening in Gaza, either. It is the banality of evil, it is colonialism. However even in this atrociously banal circumstance, I do think what still is a continued point of hope for Gazans and what still pushes so many of them to reach out to the world, is the support people around the globe have shown and still continue to show. Which is why I am here on behalf of the Shehab family ( @fahedshehab-new ) and requesting  you to help them survive through this winter. This won't take much of your time so please read: 

Fahed is currently supporting 13 family members in total- his own family and that of his sister’s.

He has to look after 8 children now, with the youngest being his son Yayha who is barely having anything to eat because the price of baby milk  is exorbitantly high in Gaza. 

The genocide has taken a toll on Fahed’s daughters. Sahar and Dana spent a whole year under the threat of bombs and right now instead of getting to be teenagers, they ask their father if they will survive. They have even said they don't want to live if they lose someone. 

The family right now immediately needs clothes to keep them warm throughout winter. Fahed’s family is from the north and has been displaced several times before they came south. Displacement is dangerous and a silent killer because often essential items are lost and cannot be replaced in time. 

Please consider that the weather has already turned colder around the world and that which is only mildly uncomfortable to us, presents a dire situation for Gazans. The families don't have a shelter and there is no way for tents to adequately protect from cold winds and rain. So right now the immediate need is for warm clothes and it can cost upto $400 per person. With THIRTEEN PEOPLE to take care of Fahed immediately needs to raise at least 5k to buy the required apparels. So please boost and donate.

Urgent Appeal for Help – A Family's Fight for Survival and Hope

My name is Heba, I am 28 years old, a mother of two beautiful children, and my husband is a dedicated doctor. In December 2023, our lives were shattered when our home in Gaza was bombed. I was trapped under rubble with my children, struggling to breathe as dust filled the air. When I finally managed to get to my husband, I found him badly injured, his head and ear severely damaged. I feared the worst, but against all odds, he was still alive.

Despite my desperate efforts to get him medical help, the bombs kept falling, and we couldn’t reach an ambulance or anyone who could help us. For 40 hours, I stayed by his side, trying to keep him alive, while the world around us seemed to be falling apart.

Eventually, after a month of suffering, my husband's condition stabilized, but his ear was left severely damaged, and he needs urgent surgery that can’t be performed here in Gaza.

This is not just a plea for financial help—it’s a plea for my husband’s life and for our family’s future. Every dollar you contribute means a chance for us to escape the horrors we’ve lived through, for my husband to receive the treatment he so urgently needs, and for my children to have a safer, healthier future.

I will keep it short, since time is of essence here and it would be better to act now than later:

On November 6 2024, Suad ( @suad-khaled ) updated her gofundme and wrote that she has not been able to provide her newborn son with either milk or baby formula. The blockage imposed by the occupation has resulted in high inflation rates, and Suad has not been able to buy anything nourishing for a long time. As of now baby Khaled is having to drink rice water as a substitute.

Every basic necessity for childcare has shot up in price ( a pack of diapers can cost as high as $50 USD). This is impossible to afford, and children are falling ill, when families are having to make do with cheap and expired products. Khaled suffered from diarrhea last month after drinking cheap baby formula.

Another important thing is that Khaled needs regular medical attention. He is suffering from painful chest infections due to breathing in toxic debris dust and asbestos that is now present in the air of Gaza Strip after more than year of incessant bombing by the occupation forces. Khaled, who is only five months old needs daily nebulizing sesssions and other medicines which are expensive.

Suad is trying her very best to save her child but tumblr keeps shadowbanning her and thus makes it difficult to reach out to people on here for help. So please follow Suad on her blog and pay attention to her posts. Things have been especially difficult for her, often with no donations coming in for days. Everything costs tenfold now and Suad writes: I am, trying to give my child some small sense of security in the midst of chaos. I can’t help but wonder, is $20 too much to ask to keep him alive?  For a child who’s already suffering from malnutrition, a small donation could mean the difference between life and death...

We all have our dreams and desires, but currently for many people, dreaming alone has become a luxury for the world is hellbent on denying them their humanity.

It has been well over a year of Palestinian genocide and people lost their homes, their families and even their dreams. One such story is of my friend Mahmoud Abu Hamam ( @ma7moudgaza2 ) who was an engineering student and dreamt of completing his degree and starting a life of his own. However at only twenty years of age, the dream of his life was taken away from him and he now spends his time in a tent, cold and often hungry, trying to communicate with people and requesting them to pay attention to his campaign. The only thing Mahmoud dreams of now, is for an end to this occupation, to this genocide so that he may live in a warm house and sleep in a warm bed. He hates that to the world he is just a number, to be talked about broadly in debates and that no one knows him or tries to see him as a person. He hates that he is just another fundraiser on a social media site and how the world cannot see that he has been reduced to this one identity on the internet, because of the violence of the occupation. As of now even his campaign is not going well and today he received only THREE DONATIONS. Mahmoud is heartbroken over it and doesn't know what to do or what is left of him. So please do something for Mahmoud. The world failed his dream for no fault of his own and now he feels like the world will fail his campaign as well. Please do not grow complacent. BOOST AND DONATE. Acuerdo entre Estado y pueblo mapuche: mujeres indígenas detenidas, más cerca de la libertad

"Estamos conformes, pero no hay una sensación de victoria hasta que no veamos que nuestras lamngen están libres". A casi ocho meses del violento operativo que desalojó a la comunidad mapuche Lof Lafken Winkul Mapu de su territorio recuperado a orillas del Lago Mascardi, en la Patagonia argentina, y tras casi ocho horas de tensa negociación, el 1 de junio finalmente se firmó un acuerdo entre una mesa por parte del Estado y la delegación de autoridades mapuche. Este incluye presentar un acuerdo conciliatorio ante la Justicia, para que finalice la causa que mantiene privadas de su libertad  a cuatro mujeres mapuche que siguen con detención domiciliaria -junto a sus nueve hijes-. Ayer además se conoció un fallo de la Cámara de Casación que pone muy cerca de la liberación a una de las cuatro detenidas, Celeste Ardaiz Guenumil, la única que cumple arresto domiciliario en Carmen de Patagones. La machi Betiana Colhuan, Romina Rosas y Luciana Jaramillo lo hacen en Bariloche.

De esta, la tercera Mesa de Diálogo, participaron la Secretaría de Derechos Humanos, a cargo de Horacio Pietragalla Corti, y también hubo diversos sectores del gobierno: Alejandro Marmoni del Instituto Nacional de Asuntos Indígenas (INAI),  Federico Granato, presidente de la Administración de Parques Nacionales, Carolina Varsky, subsecretaria de Programas Especiales de Violencia por Razones de Género del ministerio de Mujeres, Géneros y Diversidad, y Silvia La Ruffa, secretaria de Articulación Federal del ministerio de Seguridad. «No hay victoria hasta que ellas estén libres»

Anoche, tras la firma del acuerdo, quienes participaron por la nación mapuche informaron acerca de los detalles.  Soraya Maicoño, una de las voceras de varias comunidades en conflicto, evaluó a la salida de la reunión en la Ex ESMA: “Costó un montón. Al principio hubo algunas posturas muy radicales, principalmente de parte del presidente de Parques Nacionales. Pero finalmente se sostuvieron los puntos del acuerdo que se establecieron en la reunión de febrero. Estamos conformes, pero no hay una sensación de victoria hasta que no veamos realmente que nuestras lamngen están libres.” Esto último dependerá de cómo reacciona el juez de la causa frente a esta conciliación. Sus palabras fueron acompañadas por el grito de “Rafael Nahuel presente!”, recordando al joven mapuche asesinado por Prefectura Naval Argentina Lafken Winkul Mapu en el 2017.   La reunión se realizó en la Ex ESMA en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires -el predio donde funcionó uno de los centros clandestinos de detención mas grandes de la última dictadura cívico- militar en Argentina- y hoy es un espacio de memoria. Allí funcionan diversas organizaciones y dependencias, entre ellas la Secretaría de Derechos Humanos. Que a través de un comunicado informó los principales ejes del acuerdo. “Entre otros puntos, se acordó que la semana próxima se presentará un acuerdo conciliatorio ante la Justicia, transmitiendo y mostrando el acuerdo arribado entre el Estado nacional y representantes de las comunidades mapuches a fines de que se extinga la acción penal —siempre y cuando se cumplan con todas las cláusulas del acuerdo—.”, informaron desde la Secretaría.  En las afueras de la Ex ESMA, y en diversas coordenadas del país, hubo convocatorias para acompañar y esperar la firma del acuerdo. Las consignas se replicaron por todos los puntos de encuentro: Libertad a las presas mapuche, por el retorno de la machi Betiana a su rewe, territorio ceremonial, por la preservación de la vida, el reconocimiento de los territorios, el respeto de los derechos humanos para los pueblos indígenas y la desmilitarización.  

El reconocimiento del rewe

Betiana Colhuan. El acuerdo firmado formaliza por parte del Estado el reconocimiento del rewe (espacio ceremonial) de donde fue desalojada la comunidad como lugar sagrado para el pueblo mapuche, y adonde va a poder volver. El Estado se compromete a construir tres casas allí, una para la machi y su familia, una para sus ayudantes, y una para sus pacientes y el almacenamiento de remedios. El resto de la comunidad será reubicada en tierras cercanas al Lago Guillelmo, en un espacio a determinar en los próximos días. El Estado también abrirá oficinas en la zona para diversas agencias estatales (Centro de Acceso a la Justicia, Secretaría de Derechos Humanos, Ministerio de Seguridad.)  Ante la preocupación de que eso sea básicamente un puesto de control militar, se acordó que no estuvieran en cercanías inmediatas del rewe. La comunidad seguirá los trámites de registrarse con el Instituto Nacional de Asuntos Indígenas hasta finalizarlos y conseguir la personería jurídica. 

Pedirán anular la causa contra las mujeres mapuche

Las partes presentarán el acuerdo ante el juez de la causa durante el transcurso de la semana que viene, a fin de que se finalice la causa por haber llegado a una conciliación. Por último, como la liberación de las cuatro presas depende de ese trámite judicial y la decisión al respecto, podrán ingresar al rewe hasta seis personas para resguardarlo. Esta medida se debe a que el domingo pasado, a pesar de estar totalmente militarizado, fue vandalizado el rewe. Al centro del lugar ceremonial hay una gran talla en madera de varios metros de altura, que apareció con pintura verde flúor en todo su largo. Con el ingreso terminantemente prohibido no sólo para la comunidad sino para cualquiera, es imposible pensar que se pueda hacer eso sin el visto bueno de los custodios militares. 

Por qué la Mesa de Diálogo

En diciembre del 2022, una delegación mapuche compuesta por integrantes de muchas comunidades de Chubut, Río Negro y Neuquén viajó a Buenos Aires, donde fue recibida por el Presidente Alberto Fernández. El Presidente se comprometió a que se abriera una Mesa de Diálogo, y efectivamente tuvo su primera reunión en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires el 12 de enero. La segunda instancia sucedió en Bariloche el 10 de febrero. En esa ocasión, se esbozó un acuerdo parecido al de ahora. Se fijó una próxima reunión para dos semanas después, a fines de febrero, pero nunca se hizo. El gobierno nacional suspendió esa reunión, y en tres ocasiones más puso fecha para la Mesa, pero cada vez la volvió a suspender. Mientras se dilataba el proceso, y se agudizaba la situación. Betiana Colhuan Nahuel, la única machi (autoridad espiritual) que hay hoy de este lado de los Andes, es una de ellas. “Hoy estamos detenidas sin juicio pero como si estuviéramos condenadas,” contó Betiana en la semana previa a esta reunión.   Por eso mismo la delegación mapuche declaró que el 1 de junio sería la última oportunidad para que el Estado cumpliera con su palabra. Ayer, y ya dentro del recinto, tomaron una decisión: no se iban a retirar del lugar sin un acuerdo firmado. Las cuatro mujeres mapuche están con prisión preventiva acusadas de usurpación. La causa se inició cuando la comunidad recuperó el territorio en el 2017. En ese momento, hubo un violento operativo que dejó como resultado la muerte de Rafael Nahuel, de 22 años. Desde entonces, en esa causa, nunca hubo orden de detención alguna. Pero el 4 de octubre del 2022, el recién conformado Comando Unificado entre fuerzas de seguridad federales y provinciales irrumpió en la comunidad, desalojándolas violentamente. A partir de ahí, procedieron a demoler todas las casas. Hace ocho meses el predio tiene una presencia constante de las fuerzas de seguridad.  Además de las cuatro mujeres presas, desde ese momento hay varios hombres y una mujer en clandestinidad porque sobre ellos pesan órdenes de captura. Afirma Gustavo Franquet, abogado defensor de la comunidad, “Dialogar con una comunidad que tiene a la mitad presa y la otra mitad prófuga no es diálogo. El Estado dice que sólo va a presentar la conciliación al juez para cortar con el juicio si la lof acepta sus términos. No son presas, son rehenes.”

Democracia y pueblo mapuche

En esta ocasión la reunión tuvo lugar en la ex-ESMA, con el peso histórico que implica. Carlos Curruhuinca, lonko de la Lof Curruhuinca (San Martín de los Andes, Neuquén), contó en un trawún (parlamento) en Bariloche el pasado 20 de mayo: “Muchos de Uds. vivieron la dictadura, y de tan sorprendente que fue para tantos argentinos, nosotros lo venimos viviendo desde 1870”.   Mayra Sepúlveda señaló que “el Estado argentino nace como estado terrorista y nunca dejó de ser un estado terrorista”.  Mauro Millán, lonko de la Lof Pillán Mahuiza (Corcovado, Chubut), sentenció “El Estado festeja sus 40 años de democracia pero para nuestro pueblo nada ha cambiado. Lo vivimos como una dictadura—gente asesinada, secuestrada, cumpliendo condenas sin juicio, familias desmembradas, nacimientos en cautiverio.”

Foto: Denali DeGraF Asistieron comunidades de Chubut, Río Negro y Neuquén, a las cuales se sumaron organizaciónes sociales de varios lugares de la Patagonia y una delegación de Feministas del Abya Yala que viajó desde Buenos Aires. Esta delegación incluyó a integrantes que vinieron desde Bolivia y México. Adriana Guzmán, reconocida militante indígena feminista boliviana, opinó que “todos los Estados son genocidas, pero es doblemente indignante que un gobierno que habla tanto de los derechos humanos como el argentino, los atropella de esta manera.” De alguna manera la historia argentina entremezclada tuvo su momento en la negociación, a través de grandes figuras militantes de derechos humanos. Contó Soraya Maicoño “Ayudó mucho el aporte amoroso de Nora Cortiñas—quien se hizo presente en el debate antes de ir a la ronda de los jueves en Plaza de Mayo—y también de Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, que retó al presidente de Parques por habernos tratado en términos muy racistas.” 

Un fallo de Casación por la libertad

Al margen de esta negociación, en el mismo día llegó la notificación de la Cámara Federal de Casación respecto a una de las detenidas, Celeste Ardaiz Guenumil. Ella se encuentra en arresto domiciliario en Carmen de Patagones. Ante el rechazo del pedido de excarcelación por parte del juez de la causa, sus defensores lo habían apelado a Casación. Efectivamente, en el oficio librado recién, la Cámara aceptó el planteo de la defensa e instruyó al juez a modificar su resolución.
