Saorsa, Chapter 25

A/N Here is the next installment of Saorsa. Comfortably ensconced in married life, Jamie and Claire settle down into married bliss at Lally...., no wait. Wrong story. Let’s call this one, working out the kinks, Saorsa-style. With another cameo from my family (see the end for details).

Rather than link to all previously posted chapters, I’ll just direct those of you wanting to catch up on your Saorsa-reading to my AO3 page, where the fic is posted in its entirety.

Thank you to each of you liking and reblogging! It does my little fanfic writer’s heart good.

Their return to Lallybroch should have marked the beginning of marital bliss for Jamie and Claire. There were certainly moments of pleasure: sharing quiet laughter at the supper table; listening to early spring rains flood the courtyard while sitting in front of the fire; and tentative journeys across the newly claimed territories of their bodies in the enormous laird’s bed each night. Having nothing but the most elementary knowledge of sex prior to his marriage, Jamie was astounded at the array of physical satisfaction that they were discovering together. It was fast becoming something of an obsession.

But for each moment of harmony, there was one of dissonance. Raised as he was in a time of male pre-eminence, he regularly ran afoul of his new wife’s strong opinions and lack of docility. She simply refused to accept his direction on even the most mundane decisions without questioning it first. In one minor example, the topic of lambing season had arisen the previous afternoon.

“Last year Murtagh hired a half dozen boys from the village as shepherds to watch over the ewes,” Claire insisted, hands deep in a ball of bread dough.

“Aye, and ‘alf of those lads are in the trenches now. Rupert kens a man wi’ a fine Collie bitch. If we take a litter o’ pups now, I could ‘ave ‘em ready tae watch o’er the ewes by April.” He dipped a finger into a pot of onion broth and tasted it with trepidation. Claire was many things, but a fine cook was not one of them. Cook was suffering a spell of gout and had been sent home to rest, so his wife was preparing the midday meal for the labourers.

“And then we’d have even more mouths to feed. Really, Jamie. Stop that!” Claire smacked his hand as he tried to grab some chopped carrots from the counter beside her.

“I’m ‘ungry, Sassenach. Squabblin’ wi’ ye makes me peckish. Mayhap ye could offer me somethin’ else tae nibble at,” he murmured as he lifted her curls and set his teeth gently into the cords of her elegant neck.

“Imagine how we’d economize on provisions, if you saw fit to agree with me more often,” Claire retorted, stepping away from his curious mouth. The apples of her cheeks were plumped, and he knew she was struggling not to smile.

“T’would no’ be worth it.” He placed one last sloppy kiss on her jaw and left the kitchen before she could reply.

When Claire descended the stairs later that week, Jamie lay in front of the hearth, slowly being smothered by four wiggling four-legged bodies. She looked stern, but couldn’t resist a grin as the imposing, once-ravaged body of her Highland warrior emitted a childish giggle when one pup attacked his chin with an enthusiastic pink tongue.

“I see we are now dog owners,” she commented as she eased her increasingly awkward weight into an armchair.

“Aye. Angus brought ‘em o’er this mornin’.” He pushed the puppies gently to the floor and rose to his feet, brushing stray hairs from his sweater.

“We never agreed to this scheme of yours, you know.”

Jamie was concentrating on not stepping on a paw or tail, but he knew exactly what he’d see if he glanced in Claire’s direction. She had a particular expression that blended mild exasperation and the match-strike flare of defiance. It annoyed and aroused him in equal measures.

“Nae, we did no’. I dinna see why ye’er fightin’ me on this, Sassenach. Lallybroch needs sheep tae survive, an’ sheep need a sheepdog tae protect ‘em.”

“Protect them from what, exactly?”

He let his tone slip towards condescension. “From wolves, Claire.”

She sighed, glancing towards the kitchen to make certain they weren’t overheard.

“There haven’t been wolves in the British Isles since the eighteenth century, Jamie. Last spring, we lost twenty lambs. Two to an owl or eagle, and the rest to the local populace, who are starving and desperate. I hope your dogs are quick with a rifle.”

She left him then, standing in the great hall covered in puppy fur and chagrin.

He woke to the sound of sleet hitting the north-facing window. The fire smoldered in its grate and the Claire-shaped indentation on the sheets was cool to the touch. He grabbed his bedrobe and followed the sound of excited yipping down the stairs.

His wife sat near the fire, the sphere of her swollen belly draped in a white linen nightshift. She had spread an old stable blanket in front of the hearth, and it was currently occupied by four puppies and a pork hock that had been destined for tomorrow’s soup.

He stood beside her, letting his fingers tangle through the havoc of her unbound hair, glistening with raindrops.

“I couldn’t leave them in the stables when it’s so cold outside,” she confessed.

He could have insisted that the dogs were in the stables to ensure their protective instincts attached to the animal inhabitants of Lallybroch, not the human ones. Or that Collies were bred with a thick undercoat to withstand Scottish winters. Or still yet that the dogs were not pets, but labourers on the estate. And according to Claire, unwelcome ones at that.

Instead he chuckled as the sharp teeth of the largest pup, a dominant male, accidentally bit into the tail of his smaller sister instead of the soup bone. A sharp growl and bared teeth sent him cowering to the far corner of the blanket.

“Fionnghal may be wee, but she puts Rufus in his place,” he commented.

“You named them?” Claire asked, startled.

“Aye. Rufus is a big ginger, like me, ye ken. The lad wi’ the black mask is Macdui, after the mountain. Fionnghal is a proper lady’s name. Fiona, ye would say, and I’ve been callin’ the roan one Cameron after a cousin on my Da’s side who….”

His wife extended her hand, silently asking for his help to stand. He wasn’t finished talking, but the way she was pulling him back upstairs towards their bedchamber was an opening statement in an ongoing conversation he found infinitely more appealing.

Endnote: This is Fionnghal (aka Windy). I grew up on a small farm where we always had one Rough Collie as our ‘outdoor’ dog. We didn’t have sheep, but the collies didn’t mind. They’d herd anything: cows, horses, the neighbour’s chickens, small children. That herding instinct is strong. Her second ear never did tip, which gave her a madcap look that was pretty fitting.

Can you believe, Thanksgiving is only a few days away and some of the pups are super excited because they’ll be settled into their homes in time to celebrate how grateful they are to be a permanent member of their own furever family!

It feels like it was Shepherd week because Margie (now Maya), Rambo, Sophie & Tango all met great people ready to “put a tag on it” as it were. Ferguson (now Potter), Iggy, Juliette & Zoey all have homes in time for the holidays, as does Miss Shana (aka Ridley) who changed her name to Blossom.

“Great to hear from TLC!

Charlie is doing brilliantly and loves his fellow canine Pip Marie. Charlie is loving, affectionate, funny, obediate and some how I feel “grateful” for a home where he is loved. Charlie can still “shy ” and does have more difficulty with males. Charlie is quite the watch dog off AND on leash and we are working on training him to understand he is safe – and that I am too.

We are so grateful to have Charlie – my son is so devoted to him as well. Thank you for providing a safe refuge for dogs before adoption!!! Here is a silly picture of Charlie having a laugh!”

“Hi TLC Team! Luna developed a lump on her hind hip that we had checked out. Originally they told us it was a fatty mass, but told us if it got larger or harder, to bring her back. Well, wouldn’t you know it, it grew and got a bit firmer. They surgically removed it. She spent 10 days with that darn cone thing on her poor little head. It didn’t stop her from doing anything after 2 days. We were told to make sure she didn’t run around, yeah right, they know Luna!! Anyway, the biopsy came back as just a benign, fatty mass. We were all on pins and needles for about 2 weeks until we received the results. Luna is such a blessing to our family. She, along with Mady, bring our family so much joy and make us complete. I don’t know what we would do without them. Just took this photo of them, are they not the cutest puppies ever!!! Oh by the way, the vet told us that the fatty mass is very common for a boxer!!! So I guess Luna has some boxer in her! Happy Holidays!!”

Penny is doing great 😀. She is such a sweet, loving dog- she has fit right into our life! Penny loves going for walks, playing in the dog park, and snuggling at night. She is mostly house trained at this point and passed level 1 of her dog obedience class! We’re hoping to get her in the next level class or agility class next year.

With our litter celebrating their first birthday this week, we wanted to send some updates on Piper (Lally).

She is up to 35 pounds and still very short.

She loves most other dogs, especially golden retrievers, yellow labs, and French bulldogs.

She loves to chase squirrels in the park, walk along the Delaware River on Penn’s Landing, and take lots of naps!

We thankfully got her stomach issues figured out through a mix of specialized food from Royal Canin and a daily probiotic.

She has also gotten a lot less anxious thanks to her vet recommending a daily dose of Prozac.

We would love to see photos and hear about the rest of the litter as well!”

I love seeing and hearing about Cooper’s (Laddie) siblings!

Cooper is a big boy! He weighs about 50 lbs. I’m hoping he’s done growing soon.

He’s VERY smart, playful and loves other dogs. He’s not very affectionate but seems to be getting a little better. He’s such a guard dog! If he doesn’t know someone who comes over, all the hair on his back goes up. He’s friendly with everyone except some tall men. We can’t figure out why he picks and chooses. He loves to play on his back while holding toys with his paws. Super funny! He’s not a fan of the car since he gets sick. Maybe he’ll outgrow it.

He’s also great using his doggy door. He’s a rough and tough dog. He loves digging, playing ball, frisbee (not a good jumper), going to the dog park and being with family. As you can see, he looks so much like piper but with much longer legs.

“It’s so great to see the other pups! It seems that our Luna (Laurie) is the only one with long fluffy hair in the litter! A dog trainer today told me she looked exactly like a Finnish spitz! When I looked it up I couldn’t believe the resemblance!

Luna is a very energetic and bright girl and gets along with other dogs very well. She is very cautious of new people though and will keep her distance until she warms up to someone. She had 2 spells of tummy issues at about 6 months old but we seem to have it under control now. She is a huge cuddle bug and wants nothing but to make us happy! She is quite the chewer though and tends to destroy all of her doggy sisters squeaky toys so we tend to keep those for supervised play time. She is fully grown at only 39 pounds but she has the biggest personality! “

“I love seeing how everyone grew up!! My 1.5 year old instantly recognized Cooper and Piper because she started calling them “Endy” when we showed her the pictures.

Endor is also 50lbs. He’s losing his summer coat, so he looks pretty lanky right now. 🙂 He’s DEFINITELY a teenager! He loves playing ball and frisbee, and he enjoys chewing on bones and his antler. Does anyone else’s pup bury their treats??? I’ve NEVER had such a stereotypical dog in my life. If we give him a special bone or treat, he immediately starts looking for someplace to bury it (under the rug…in the yard…in the couch cushions… 🙄)

He’s a happy boy with a lot of energy. He loves his kids, cats, and mom and dad. And he enjoys chasing the squirrels in the yard. And digging holes. So many holes. In my garden, in my planters, in the lawn… Lol

We took a bunch of training classes, but now that I’m back to work, we’re taking a small hiatus.

One thing’s for sure: he is a very handsome boy!

‘It is possibly the first ever documented canine wedding in the Philippines,’ Che told Metro.co.uk.

According to Che, the wedding was held on a beach in Patungan Cove in Cavite. The couple invited 25 guests – all being canines and their respective pet parents.

And of course, bridesmaids (Picture: Che Vienes)

And their fellow guests didn’t just watch, either. Oh no – Lally and Kian had their own bridesmaids, groomsmen and even a pup priest.

Amazing, we know.

Che said: ‘For many it was the most elaborate canine wedding. We had the dog-priest named Max the Boston Terrier (his human officiate the wedding ceremony).

‘We also had Elouis, the dog-wedding singer; behind her its humans who performed acoustic version of “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

And don’t worry, guys, to dogs had total choice over the cake. Che told us: ‘The cake was not made of chocolate (so both human and dogs can eat it). It was simple buttercake, covered with pink to motif the wedding.’

Week-End Update: Kismet

Making sure that dogs and families are a great, mutual, match for one another is something we at TLC work hard to accomplish. We know that some times, it just seems to take a while to find just the right family and, some times, people who thought one dog would be the one realize that someone else is actually the best match. When things are meant to be, they’re just meant to be and this week’s adoption featured a lot of that “yup, this was worth the wait” moments.

Our little Jedi master, Tink, waited patiently for the right family to come along and the worth was definitely worth it! Chico II also hung around a little longer than we expected but, once he met his new family, it became clear that the universe was doing him a solid for being so patient. Some things are just mean to be. The Chihuahua mixes weren’t the only lucky pups celebrating gotcha days this week: Cilantro (now Charlie), Delilah, Diana (now Luna Tonks), Gabbana (now Faith – the last of Guess’s pups), Otis, Penny, Shayna & Sheba (now Pippin) were adopted this week, as was Anna Lee’s pup, Chewy.

Two of the pups already have TLC alumni family connections: Diana’s new big sister is Mady FKA Tamber of the Ta litter from March/April 2014 & Sheba’s new cousin is TLC alumn Samwise FKA Wrangler.

“Hi everyone, Baby’s DNA results came back. It was a 27 page report. She is 37.5 lab, 25 chow chow, and 37.5 mixed breed (sporting, guard, and terrier groups). She tested normal for MDR 1 (multi-drug sensitivity). She is a carrier for exercise-induced collapse. It’s an interesting report to read. You can see her family tree. Have a good one!”

“We are so happy that Annalee is part of our family. She is the sweetest, funniest little girl. We kept her name because she answers to it and also because Annalee is the name of a river in county Cavan Ireland and I always wanted a dog with an Irish name or connection. I think we are meant to be together. It just seems like she fits right in and has always belonged here. I’m attaching some pictures. Please excuse the one in the dress, a friend gave it to us and we just had to take a picture with her in it. I never imagined I’d be someone who dresses up their pet but here I am lol!

“Yes, the time’s flown by and I can’t believe that Zoey’s been with us for 7 months now. When she came to us she was a reticent dog who didn’t like to be touched or cuddled and would bare her teeth at the smallest instance. Today, she’s a loving dog who loves to go on car rides, enjoys vanilla ice cream, loves chicken jerky and doesn’t leave my son’s side. “Today is Piper’s six month birthday (we think) and we wanted to send an update on how she’s doing!

Piper is now up to 27 pounds, growing long and wide but not very tall

She was originally described to us as “independent and confident” and she has definitely displayed those characteristics at the Agility classes she has been taking at Zoom Room in Philadelphia

Piper is a social butterfly always excited to meet new dogs in the city and to see her normal doggy friends at the local dog parks

Our biggest challenge with Piper has been due to her protective instincts as she is always on alert for strangers walking by – and makes sure that they hear her bark!

“Endor (FKA Lawler) is doing great. We had a rough start with him, but we found an excellent local trainer, and it’s really helped a lot. Endor has two kids, 5.5 and just-turned 1, and two cats. (We have our hands full!!) Every day he enjoys going to the bus stop to see all of his neighborhood friends; he’s very popular. We’ve even had people stop their cars to ask what he is and where they can get one.

He’s a bit unsure of strangers, especially men, but we’re working on that. He loves to play fetch with a number of frisbees outside and one particular tennis ball inside. He seems to be a water dog; he’s always digging in his water bowl and playing in our little garden pond. I can’t wait to get him a baby pool. Right now he’s a very hot puppy with this heat wave. We’re looking forward to hearing about his adorable siblings!”

“Luna is doing great! She’s up to 25 pounds and is extremely intelligent! She is still very wiry of new people and can be a bit protective at times but she has her big bulldog sister to reassure her! The two are always together! She eats like a horse and loves car rides but can’t help but get sick if it’s too long. She LOVES attention and always has to sit right next to you or right on top of you! She learned many of her tricks while she was very young at only 12 weeks! She knows how to shake with each paw, lay, roll over, wave, and dance! She also knows to sit before I open the door outside so that she will never rush out of the house. We went away over the weekend one time so far since we have had Luna and it took her quite a bit to trust the family member we left her with so she takes time to warm up to others when alone with them but she comes around and loves other dogs! She is overall an amazing intelligent dog! We have so happy to have her as a part of our family! “

“Yes, we are all doing well and McCall and Kors have settled in nicely. We are into a regular routine of going potty and playing outdoors.

My son initially wanted to adopt Versace but he was taken…so he has renamed Kors. He is Versace now but I call him cuddlebug and chunky spunky monkey! He’s full of energy and loves playing with McCall. They play tug of war daily over rope toys, bones and sticks. Versace has a big, loud mouth and when he is sleeping, we whisper and tip toe so we don’t wake him.! He is crate training and learning quickly to hold it until he gets outside. He is a joy!

McCall has also been renamed. He is Bandit now. It is very fitting too! He runs really fast, like a bullet. Versace and Smokey try hard to keep up but bandit leaves them in the dust. Just like the movie characters, we have our own Smokey and the Bandit. Bandit is a sweet heart. He is very curious and enjoys exploring the house and yard. He has boundless energy and loves to get the others to chase him. He is also protective of our home and is quick to bark at anyone passing by our house. He loves to jump on the couch, cuddle up and sleep next to us. I have attached a few pics for you to show their foster Moms.”

Week-End Update: Didn't February Used To Be Winter?

Far be it from us to complain about lovely Spring weather, it was so nice being able to take the dogs for longer walks and have our meet & greet outside, but it is kinda weird to be able to do it in the middle of February!

We hope you had as great a week as we did. In addition to spending some quality time with the pups, we also locked in dates & locations for our Raffles For Ruffs event, which will be held at Twenty9 on May 6th, & our 3rd annual Miles For Mutts, which is now scheduled on October 1st at Warwick Park. We also celebrated a few gotcha days because Jasper, June & Wanda were adopted this week!

Piper FKA Lally (Lady’s pup)

I hope you are well and I hope Piper’s siblings have come back with positive reports as well!

We wanted to send over a DNA test we had done for Piper. It turns out she is mostly Chow Chow and German Shepherd! Check out the full explanation in the attachment.

She is doing great with us. We went to puppy preschool at the Philadelphia Zoom Room this past Saturday and will have her in as many classes there as possible.

TLC, this is Bailey. Formerly known as Dopey, from Avery’s litter. He is starting to grow tall. He’s a little timid around new people but we’re working on that. He loves all dogs. His best friend is an 8-year-old female white shepherd. This was his first snow day.

He is adjusting well, and the dogs loooooove each other. He has had a few accidents in the house, but I think it’s because he’s adjusting to the smells and from drinking so much water from all of the play!

He’s a cutie and so sweet. He is really bad with jumping when we initially get home because he’s so excited, but after that welcoming, he doesn’t jump. He walks so well on a leash too. We are working on the jumping.

Lady Bird was adopted from TLC about 2.5 years ago and her mom decided it was time to see what, aside from Foxhound, was in her mix. We were wasting our time on speculation since, as it turns out, this lovely lemon is a purebred American Foxhound.

Hi! We adore Curly, everyone that meets him does. It’s funny I was allowed to bring him to work until he was old enough to stay home but I have found everyone wants him to come into work now so I still bring him most days. He loves playing with my son and he and my husband ‘box’ it’s too funny. He’s doing well and is a happy boy. He makes all of us smile. He is so loving and one of the happiest friendliest dogs I’ve had and I’ve had all great pups.

All is well!

Bernie shortly after his arrival and guess who got into the bag of flour? Hint: It wasn’t Penny.

He’s not a year old yet, so still has that puppy floppiness and love for chewing everything not nailed down. He’s grown a bit and you can see how much his face has matured.

Penny thought I was calling her into the office to give her a biscuit, hence the slightly miffed expression. 🙂

Week-End Update: Better Than The Puppy Bowl

We knew it was going to be a great day when the morning started off with our girl Rachel making a love connection with her new dads, and we were right. In preparation for the Super Bowl, we spent the morning/early afternoon watching the Puppy Bowl at the wonderful Maddie’s Castle in Phoenixville. We met a lot of nice people, had a great time there and Kayla had the good fortune of catching the eye of some approved adopters who quickly made an appointment & adopted her this afternoon!

Two pups lucked out and were adopted by TLC alumni: Ally was adopted by Tucker FKA Harlan & Tonka was adopted by Oakely! Benson (now Murphy), Bodie, Gunner, Lois & Nova also landed great families and celebrated their gotcha days this week too.

Kayla was the last of her litter to get adopted and we got updates on two of her littermates

Kira’s mom posted a picture of her on our Facebook page to let us know that she’s an absolute delight and is becoming quite the social butterfly

Toby FKA Klev

Everything is going amazing…we decided to change his name to Toby and he is almost there with knowing his new name. Tarmac and Toby get along wonderfully…at times Toby can get a little mouthy with Tarmac but Tarmac is very gentle with him and shows him that is not how he is supposed to play. He really does not enjoy his crate time but settles down after being in there only a minute. We have had him around our young nieces and nephew and he absolutely loves children. We are still working on potty training but he will now go up to the door and sit to tell us he has to go out to do his business. He has learned a few new tricks too! We learned sit, lay down, shake and wait for his food. He is definitely a smart little boy and so lovable! He loves the outdoors and is beat after a long weekend running with the bigger dogs outside. Both my husband and I are extremely grateful to TLC for providing us with this loving little boy! We will definitely give you some updates along the way!

Wendi FKA Wednesday (& Monk aka Monkey FKA Tyson)

Just a quick update on Wendi and Monk. It is our 2 week anniversary and they are doing very well. They are playing together well; sharing and stealing toys and antlers! Chasing after each other. They walk really well on leashes. I walk them together and I am still up-right!

Wendi is starting to get into a schedule for going out. The first week was a little rough but she is coming along.

Wendi is an adorable little girl. We are so glad to have her. Her spa day is Tuesday! Can’t wait to see how she looks all groomed and trimmed up.

We are head over heels in love with Copper (now Bear)! He has been amazing! He loves affection (which he gets plenty of), he’s great on a leash and he’s settled right into our world. We are thrilled with him! He’s still trying to charm Lanie, but each day they are getting along better. Thank you so much for all you do! We were so impressed with your rescue!

Hazel is doing well. She’s getting better with potty training and crate training. The vet checked her out and she is very healthy. Attached are a couple of pictures of Hazel and her big sister.

Laurie now Luna is settling in wonderfully now. It took her about a day and a half to warm up since she is a bit on the shy side. We are working with our bulldog on her sharing skills. She doesn’t get mean but tends to hover over her so we are watching them very very closely to work on that. They are doing great though playing tug of war with each other and running around the house like the crazy pups they are! Haha We only decided not to keep the name Laurie because of the amount of people we know with that name. I have made an appointment for Luna with my vet for the 6th of February to get her 3rd set of shots. Her incision is still looking great and I check it at least twice a day since the two of them are always playing. She is doing very well with potty training and even knows to use the potty pads we laid down for her in case she couldn’t hold it. I’ll attach a few pictures of her on this email. I will be updating the info on the micro chip this week. Thanks so much for such a wonderful adopting experience! We love the new addition to our family! ❤

Lawler

Lawler will get a new name as soon as we can agree on one! Lol. He seems to have settled in and has made himself right at home. He has his vet appointment tomorrow morning. We’ll continue to check in as he grows, and we’ll check in with a trainer if we need one.

Cooper FKA Laddie

Laddie is now Cooper 😁 we LOVE him. He’s very smart and super curious. He’s learned to sit. Housebreaking is tough but he’s getting it a little bit. We can’t wait to see what he’ll look like as a big boy. He’s such a joy. Just what our family needed.

Thank you so much. Your rescue is so professional and well organized. I’ll be recommending you. People are already asking. It was a very easy, well planned adoption.

Piper just had her first vet visit on Monday. We also ordered a DNA test today as we are very curious about her mix. We will send you the results as well.

She has been doing great and we are so happy to have her!

I AM so happy I found Maulik!! I am in love with him! He seems to be the perfect dog for me! He is doing very well. He had his vet check up at Banfield Pet Hospital at the Pet Smart near where I currently live. The vet said “Maulik was welcome back anytime” (I got the impression she didn’t say that to all the dogs) She also said he was an “All Star” as he was very well behaved for baseline bloodwork and his lyme vaccine. Banfield vet and staff also commented on all the records I had from TLC and said it seemed like a very organized and well run rescue!

At home he has been a complete love. He is eating well and all bathroom business has been done outside. He loves his toys! and does well in the crate. Maulik is curious about Niko, but not persistent or aggressive in any way. Niko is still not sure…..lol….to be continued. I feed him in the crate and have not seen any signs of food aggression. However, I gave him a Busy Bone and he did growl when I came near him while he had that.

We are going on at least four walks a day. The easy walker harness makes a big difference. He does very good on leash unless a squirrel runs by. Initially he got super excited when he saw another dog. So we went to the dog park early in the morning before any other dogs were there so he could sniff around and did long walks when the dog walking traffic was low. He is now at the point where he notices another dog near by, but doesn’t get so excited and goes about his day.

We’ve done two dog/dog introductions this week and all dogs did great!

I would like to do a basic obedience class with him and also try Agility Training with him. (he leaps and jumps like no other dog).

He has already fulfilled a part of my life which had been missing something. I feel like life is full now with Maulik by my side!

I did change her name to Ellie and she is coming along fine.

In fact, she’s with me right now in the car. Ellie really loves riding in the car! See the picture.

Before the trainer begins the process we need to bring her out of her emotional shell and let her bond with me, my wife and the trainer.

Ellie is so gentle and sweet!!!!

Bodie FKA Washington

I adopted Bodie in October. He’s settling in quite nicely, my house really feels like a home with him around now.

He loves meeting other dogs and new people, especially kids. The neighbors love him and my parents enjoy showing off the grand dog.

I discovered he super inquisitive and smart. I had him in line to vote and all he did was sit patiently and people watch for an hour. He’s also picking up new tricks pretty well, we’re showing progress on fetching his leash. I’m enjoying watching the wheels turn as he’s learning.

We’re working on coming to the gym with me, but if his playmate isn’t there (another dog adopted from your rescue) he gets a little too hyper. I just had him in Lowes last night and he loved the attention he got!

Celly … he is king of the house . He is a big boy about 35-38 pounds a gentle giant. He has a vet appointment 2/18 and we will see if he can get neutered and we will be doing a DNA test for curiosity. He fetches, house broken and loves the cold . He goes to the ice rink with us and he’s the hit of the place. He goes everywhere with us. We were approached to see if we would bring him to assisted living homes to cheer people up. Yeah he’s that loving.We absolutely adore him, I truly understand now when people say I didn’t save him he saved us . Thank you guys again.

Week-End Update: Gloomy Day Pick Me Up

Blech, this weather is enough to give anyone a bad case of the winter blues but, luckily, we’re awash in dogs & puppies and they do a pretty good job cheering us up. Our sweet, tripawd, Bully mix Pearl started the week out right by falling madly in love with a family that with a family that knew she was perfect for them! As hard as it was for her foster family to say good-bye, they couldn’t be happier for her and can’t wait to hear updates after she’s settled in.

While we’ve been busy debating whether Lady’s litter are teddy bear or ewok mixes, Lager, Lally, Latane & Lawler were been busy charming families and getting adopted. Danielle, Destiny (now Gabby), Duchess, Kefir, Klev, Mike, Morticia, Nugget & Trixie also celebrated their “gotcha” days.

Hannah is doing very well. I did not change her name as she seemed very used to Hannah. We have been busy on long walks in the woods! Her hair is growing back nicely as her itching has mostly stopped. I haven’t yet had the time to get her to my vet, but am planning to do so shortly.

Darla FKA Evelyn

My husband and I adopted Darla (formerly Evelyn) back in July and things have been wonderful. She’s now 9.5 months old and doing great. We took her to training from about August-November and she was the top of her class- she’s very intelligent, although quite mischievous. She’s adjusted to city life in Philadelphia and absolutely loves going to the dog parks, and trips to visit my parents and their dogs in the suburbs. We’re still working on a few things with her- mainly jumping and chewing on the rug- but we couldn’t be happier with our girl.

Bo FKA Ridge

Hi, the puppy is doing great, his name is Bo (his name was Ridge when we got him) and is a very sweet dog. He gets along great with our other dog, Luna, who is about eight months older than Bo. Bo is very healthy, he is a little over 50 lbs. right now, and seems to still be growing. Attached is a picture of Bo that I took just a few days ago. Also, we were wondering if you have any information or pictures of his sister, she was in the same cage as he was the day that we adopted him, she was very beautiful, we are really interested what she looks like now.

We love our sweet Prue! We are thrilled with our new addition. Prue has adjusted very well and she is so happy with her new home. Her tail is constantly wagging and she is full of joy. Prue is happy and healthy and we could not ask for anything more. She is such a nice little dog.

Hi- here is Skye and Bolt in their first snow! They loved it! We are all doing great…. they get a lot of love, attention and frequent trips to the local bark park! They are getting along with our senior dog, Buster, and they have given him new life! They all lay on top of one another after a long walk and it couldn’t be any more adorable! We just weighed them on the scale and Bolt is 60 lbs and Skye is 50 lbs! We are lucky to have them as part of our family!

Tucker FKA Jackson

Tucker,(aka Jackson) is doing well. He gets along with his big brother and spends time with his cousins Ria and Wylie.

Tucker has learned to touch, leave it, drop it and he just figured out we have a upstairs. We have a blast with him and love the little guy so much.

Thank you so much for letting us adopt him, he brings joy and a little havoc into our lives. Here is Tucker and Zeeke they are always together.

Gregor FKA Hampton

Gregor is the light of our life and he’s doing very well. He’s an absolute champ in nosework class and I am certain we will be able to compete in trials once his training is complete. He’s the nicest dog we’ve ever had – not a mean bone in his body.

Elvis is doing great! He and our daughter are best buds. They play a lot together. When we go to the park she learns to ride her bike while he runs around sniffing trees and meeting other dogs. He has really become a part of our family. Thank you for all you did to bring him into our lives.

We are SO HAPPY with Layla, now known as Mina (I named her after a character from the book Dracula since Corey got to name Heath after a Steelers play!). Mina and Heath are best friends and attached at the hip. They spend all day playing and snuggling together. Mina has turned Heath into a lazy non-morning dog and they love sleeping in together. It is amazing how quickly she fit in with our family and with Heath. They act they have been best friends since birth! I’ve attached a bunch of pictures of them playing and snuggeling! The love playing tug of war, running around in the backyard, and going on walks together followed by lots of couch time! Mina definitely completed our family perfectly! It is like Heath and Mina were meant to be! We hope to enroll them both in training and agility this spring!

Hazel Grace (fka Daisy) hasn’t quite gotten the hang of the “no furniture” thing! However, she’s mastered sit, stay, touch, paw, dance, high five, down and almost figured out crawl and roll over. She has brought knew energy to her fur sister Sofie and her puppy antics keep us smiling every day.

We adopted Willow in July and what a joy she is. She has two sisters, Oli a rat terrier and Misti the beagle. They love to run around the yard and chase each other and then come in and sit by the fire and chill. She is a great addition to our family.

Everything is going great!!! Luna (fka Mona) is a great dog. She can be a handful sometimes but she’s a terrier. She has a very sweet and playful personality. Her and Jagger (fka Renwick) have been absolutely wonderful with our new human addition to the family. Jagger watches the baby like a hawk and doesn’t let her out of his sight for long. Luna tries to sneak in kisses when she can so she has to be watched but she is surprisingly gently with the baby as well.
