if yall ever wanna know how obsessed i got with lalin´s curse (it still lives in my head rent free, im just more normal abt it rn hahaha)

today i was working on that storyboard assignment and i drew a side view of my character, and my brain immediately went: Ö!! lalin´s curse chapter 37 when david´s reaching out for cody-

so i looked it up and lo and behold, the proportions matched enough that i had to take a moment, i didn´t even struggle to find the chapter or panel, its been at least a year since i last read it properly and it´s apparently permanently ingrained into my brain to this extent, i cannot believe-

So Lalin’s Curse Theory/Thoughts

I’m deep in LC brainrot rn and so I’ve been coming up with a lot of theories about the characters and rereading the comic too many times lmao. Anyway this time while reading this panel stuck out in particular to me—

Every other time I’ve read this I assumed that Cody was referring to the fact that he wished he was dead and that David didn’t understand that feeling. However it’s been shown that Cody and David haven’t really known each other that well before the events of the comic occurred. Sure they were in the same friend group, but Cody is relatively new to the group as shown by the timeline on the LC amino. So how can he know that David has never felt that for sure? He can’t. So the only other possibility is that when he said “You don’t understand” he was referring to something else.

So rereading the whole flashback section of Cody explaining the events of the murder a few weeks prior, there were some other events that started to become clear. First off, Cody explained that he has killed before multiple times. This guy wasn’t his first. So why did this time bother him so much? (Of course this could also easily be because he’s a sweet cinnamon roll and would be bothered by the action no matter how many times) Or there was another reason—he was worried he was going feral.

But why would I think this? Well Isaky has already stated that this is one of Cody’s biggest fears and a consistent nightmare of his. And we know that his bio mother also went feral, which makes Cody more nervous about it happening to him as well. (This much was said during this explanation of Cody’s) Also, in the scene where the murder actually took place, Cody was being attacked by the other reptilian. It’s been hinted by the fact that no other reptilian has horns or a tail that Cody might be stronger than the other reptilians and should have been able to fight the guy off, but instead murdered the other reptilian without much hesitation. When Cody realizes as much, he freaks out and potentially wonders if him doing that without hesitation is a sign that he’s going feral.

Going from that perspective, his explanation and reactions make more sense. It explains why this murder upset him so much, and going back to the original intent of the post, why he tells David that he “doesn’t understand.” He really meant that David shouldn’t hug Cody or get too close to him because he was worried that he would hurt David, and that’s what he wasn’t understanding.

Also as a bonus part to this—David follows this by saying “You’re still Cody to me” which he didn’t realize that that was exactly what Cody needed to hear; an affirmation that he was still himself and not going feral.

Sorry for the long rambling post but I just wanted to document some thoughts I had :D Of course this may not be 100% correct so take it with a grain of salt, but these are just some things I’ve noticed :)
