Bessie the lake Erie monster. Lake Erie is not the smallest of the Great Lakes but it is the most shallow. Despite that reports have come in of a large aquatic creature. It is said to look like a giant Sturgeon, perhaps one with a long tail, long neck and a round body with fins. It is very much comparable to its more famous cousin Nessie the Loch Ness fame.

6-4, 221-pound Blueliner has Four Years of Pro Experience BY: Bob Crawford, Hartford Wolf Pack  HARTFORD, September 29, 2019:  Hartford Wolf Pack general manager Chris Drury announced today that the Wolf Pack has signed defenseman Mason Geertsen to an AHL contract. Geertsen, 24, a 6-4, 221-pound native of Drayton Valley, Alberta, has spent his first four seasons of pro hockey in the Colorado Avalanche organization.  Last season, Geertsen skated in 58 games with the AHL’s Colorado Eagles, registering three goals and 13 assists for 16 points, along with 134 penalty minutes.  He led Eagle defensemen, and finished fourth overall on the team, in plus/minus, with a +5.  Geertsen also had the most PIM on the Colorado squad, as well as the second-most among AHL defensemen and sixth-most overall in the league. A fourth-round (93rd overall) draft pick by the Avalanche in 2013, Geertsen has suited up for 217 career AHL games with the Eagles, San Antonio Rampage and Lake Erie Monsters, totaling six goals and 31 assists for 37 points, along with 367 penalty minutes.  In 30 career ECHL contests with the Eagles and the Fort Wayne Komets, he has notched one goal and eight assists for nine points, plus 32 PIM.  Geertsen helped the Eagles capture the 2016-17 ECHL Kelly Cup championship, posting one goal and three assists for four points, with 42 PIM, in 19 postseason games. Prior to turning pro, Geertsen played for the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Vancouver Giants in the Western Hockey League.  In 245 career WHL games from 2010-11 through 2014-15, Geertsen amassed 19 goals and 59 assists for 78 points, as well as 437 penalty minutes.

Mariners add a defenseman from Reading and a forward from Rapid City BY: Michael Keeley, Maine Mariners  PORTLAND, ME – January 31, 2019 – The Maine Mariners announced a pair of trades on Thursday, acquiring defenseman Sean Campbell from the Reading Royals and forward Johnny McInnis from the Rapid City Rush. Campbell, a 25-year-old defenseman from East Lansing, MI has played 22 games this season between Reading and the Atlanta Gladiators. He turned pro last season, signing with the Fort Wayne Komets out of St. Norbert College, where he played 113 games over four seasons, with 15 goals and 34 assists. Campbell played junior hockey in the NAHL with the Kalamazoo Jr. Wings and the Michigan Warriors. The 6’1 blue-liner is still in search of his first professional point. McInnis (6’2, 205 lbs) is an ECHL vet, with over 270 career games played. He’s spent time with Florida, Orlando, Utah, Reading, South Carolina, Indy, Allen, and Rapid City. The 29-year-old forward is a native of Boston and played his college hockey at Minnesota-State Mankato (alma mater of goaltender Connor LaCouvee and defenseman Jon Jutzi), where he captained the Mavericks in his Senior season of 2013-14. After posting 38 points in 41 games that season, he began his pro career with a 2-game AHL stint with the Lake Erie Monsters. His best season was 15-16 in Orlando when he put up 41 points (19 goals, 22 assists) while playing in all 72 regular season games. Last season between Indy and South Carolina, McInnis had 20 goals and 16 assists in 64 games. Indy traded him to Allen in late October and he was swapped to Rapid City on Monday. Forward Justin Breton goes to the Rush in the trade. Breton played 24 games for the Mariners, with four goals and four assists. The Mariners are in Manchester on Friday at 7 PM to take on the Monarchs before returning home for a meeting with the Adirondack Thunder on Saturday, February 2nd. It’s “Women in Sports Night” presented by the Maine Sports Commission. The first 2,000 fans through the gate will also receive a Grocery Tote Bag, presented by Townsquare Media. Game time is 6:00 PM.
