La muerte del internet

No me acuerdo si fue ayer o antes de ayer, que colgué viendo un video sobre la teoría (no tan) conspirativa de que la mayor parte del Internet hoy en día es estéril, muerto. Teoria qué me quedó martillando la mente desde entonces.

Con la sofisticación de tecnologías de inteligencia artificial y la gentrificación de las plataformas, cada vez vemos menos contenido torpe y al azar como hace unos años atrás, donde la mayor cantidad d información publicada por estos mares internautas tenían cristalizado en si mismo horas y horas de vidas humanas dedicadas a compartir información. Hoy en día debe ser difícil estimar (no se si es calculable, no lo busqué) cuanto del contenido en las redes es realmente producido por personas y cuanto es producido por (ro)bots. Cada vez somos más y las chances es que con el tiempo sea mas difícil encontrar otra persona real comunicándose con nosotros a través de la red.

Los mas extremistas dentro de los creyentes de esta teoría, están los que afirman qué algunos eventos políticos y sociales siquiera sucedieron, y que estas notícias fueron prefabricadas así como sus testimonios.

El único aporte personal que puedo dar a esto es que, en la empresa para la que trabajo hay un departamento de SEO dedicado exclusivamente a crear estos testimonios falsos por la web sobre los servicios de la empresa (ya que el rubro no es indexado en los motores de búsqueda de Google) a través de páginas que parecen ser sitios de reseñas, lo que ellos llaman sitios ecosistema. Por esto, cada vez que alguien Googlea a la empresa, sale algún sitio ecosistema creado por la misma, con textos que parecieran ser de origen humano, aunque muchas veces no lo son,y que inducen pero no directamente promocionan el consumo del producto de la empresa. Lo que me lleva a pensar cuántos de los sitios de reseñas son verdaderos, por dar un único ejemplo.

En menor medida, también testifiqué los primeros años de masificación de la inclusión digital, y era verdad que si bien éramos menos online, todo el tiempo llega gente nueva y el contenido que produce la gente nueva es muy irregular / mal producido. Wse contenido es sepultado después por algoritmos para hacernos llegar información ultraprocesada y testada, que tendrá más chances de mantenernos conectados a la red.

Me pregunto si algún día será complicado distinguir un bot de una persona realmente.

Lain: Do you know where I'm going?... I don't know either. That's because I'm going to be born soon. Will I become a more evolved human being? If I think so I might as well think so. A human without a body isn't human? There are people who have bodies that aren't human. Is that me? I'm not human? Lain is Lain. What is it to be human? You're human if you have a body? I'm me. Am I just conglomerated with my body? I need a body if I'm going to live in the real world. Suicide would be stupid. It would be better to just die naturally. I don't need it. I might need it someday. That might be true. I won't need a body to live in the Wired. I'll need the recollections of the body. How about the recollections of a body that grows older? My point of view may change? Is there a need for it to change? There's no guarantee that that will be you. Lain, what do I need to be on the Wired? Existence and will. The rest is just data.

09 DIGITAL DIARY: LAIN

Pictured above is actually me right now writing this blog post. You may have noticed the rearrangements I've made with my theme. I care to offer a bit of an explanation.

Serial Experiments: Lain. An anime released in 1998, created and co-produced by Yasuyuki Ueda, written by Chiaki J. Konaka, and directed by Ryūtarō Nakamura.

A psychological thriller with themes of identity, the series follows a young girl, Lain Iwakura, and her relationship with "the Wired" - the Internet. But, who is Lain? Who is she really? This is explored over the 13 episodes as she exhibits behaviors that suggest something else is at play.

This series predicted how we see the world today - how normalized the digital world is in our day-to-day life. (Perhaps the one thing they got wrong are the wires. Bluetooth's all the rage now! I will forever mourn headphone jacks.) It showcases multiple extremes: Lain's initial lack of digital literacy, multiple accounts of complete escapism, to consequences in children's access to online spaces. Lain dives into what it means to be posthuman; breaking the divide between real and virtual existence. No matter where you go, everyone's connected.

Serial Experiments is not conventional in terms of storytelling; it refuses to be linear, nor does it hold your hand to help you understand it. Some love it, some hate it. However, it is undeniable that this level of abstraction means discussion around the show remains active decades later. Personally, I love the feeling of piecing together the story at the end of it. Lain is a mindfuck!!! It overwhelms you with a sense of quiet dread in the best possible sense. Despite being released 25 years ago, it’s relevancy progresses alongside technology. Lain can even be seen as a cautionary tale on our relationship with the internet, where we are headed, and even where we are now. (Think: AI, Metaverse, Neuralink...) In conclusions, I changed my theme because I like Lain. That's the gist. Oh, and also the readability of my last theme was questionable.

ps. I may or may not have accidentally stayed up until unholy hours of the night finding a template for this theme and customizing it. (I got Disqus to work! Now there are actual real comments on my blog :O??????) pps. Often, I find that the more artistic, "deep", and insane a piece of media, the more lighthearted the fan-content is.
