EVERYONE WAKE UP WAKE UP LAIKA NEWS JUST DROPPED!
(POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR WILDWOOD) So I was at the new LAIKA exhibit last night and within the sections dedicated to each of their films, they had a small television screen playing an exclusive behind the scenes video. This was at the end of the exhibit!
(muted the audio because it was covered by the most exasperated gasp I've ever made in my entire life) There may have been more shown in the video, but by then the museum was about to close. I'm definitely going to go back someday, however. Also, pictures!!!!

Just saw your insane acrylic painting, but also that in the tags you mentioned you're not a painter. So, quick question: when you say you aren't a painter, do you genuinely agree the people who see your work at that exhibition would agree with your assessment? Because I would like to offer a polite #doubt that they would.
Hello hello ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ when I made the claim I wasn't a painter, I was mostly referring to the fact that I use that medium extremely infrequently and am not well trained in it! My skills are not very refined in that regard; I actually only recently found out that I use acrylics "wrong" since you're not supposed to add water at all lol, and I definitely prefer to paint that way with them. Technically, because I painted something, I *am* a painter, I was just trying to give perspective in the tags on my familiarity and time spent with the medium. Just like how someone might say they're not a sculptor but still work with clay casually and occasionally; both things can be true! I hope that helps and makes more sense. And thank you for enjoying my work in the meantime!!

Man remember when the boxtrolls movie had a full runtime of just virulent villainous crossdressing as grossout humor, then put a twee little "some families have 2 daddies" song over the end credits & got absolutely zero mainstream pushback. That was just 10 years ago :(

stop motion is such a cool medium, theres so many fun things people do with it and it takes so much time and effort and it ends up looking super cool and fun and the behind the scenes stuff shows how amazingly complex everything is and it is soo amazing

I remember when I followed you for the muppets (this was back before Muppets ABC even)
oh... oh bless... you're a very patient person, I think. lmao.
That was like a decade ago! I backed off from Muppets fandom for a while, partially because I didn't have much more to say and partially because I was getting some um. Anxiety-inducing treatment. :')
These days... I still love The Muppets (I've been to several exhibits lately!!) but I've been a bit too tired and too... brain-unhappy, I guess, to write them. Medication problems, y'know? Someone requested them a few weeks ago and I really considered it but my brain is just not there. ._.
That said, The Muppets are one of those beloved childhood franchises that will always be there for me when I want/need to go back to it, so I feel comfortable letting the fandom move in and out of my life. It's a comforting canon like that.

Since I haven't seen any posts about this yet, allow me to spread awareness of LAIKA's upcoming exhibit, said to be the largest they've ever had!
Tumblr media
"HIDDEN WORLDS: The films of LAIKA" is a brand new, immersive exhibit spanning over 7,500 square feet in Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture! It isn't open yet, but MAN I am pumped. I don't feel like typing the extra details so if you want to learn more you can read about it here:

Experience Hidden Worlds, The Films of LAIKA in 2023 at MoPOP and More!
It's been years since I visited #Seattle @MoPOP and it's was joy to walk through @laikastudios exhibit of puppets, sets to rediscover the magic of #stopmotion #animation! I have a journal entry on what was found in this trip! #fantasy #mythology
Runs till Summer 2024MoPOP‘s Hidden Worlds, The Films of LAIKA exhibit is all kinds of wonderful, and there’s lots of time to plan a trip Seattle, WA to go see it!  Once I stepped onto the third floor, there were a few stations to learn about the art of making cinema through stop-motion. The best part is to see the sets and puppets from this studio’s movies up close. After seeing this exhibit, I…

(I send a question about this but I didnt explain very well, sorry english isnt my first language)
Here in Brasil a lot of people said "the reason why wont exist a sequence from Coraline its because the creator sold the stop motion figures", I know the reason Coraline doesnt have a sequence its because the story already ended, but I passes my whole childhood thinking that you (an evil person) sold the "dolls" of the movie
So I ask: DID YOU SOLD THE POOR DOLLS??
I think you're saying that you've been told that we can't do a sequel to Coraline because I sold off all the Coraline puppets. And no, that's not true.
Tumblr media
There were 28 Coraline stop-motion puppets. They are all now about 16 years old, and are mostly too old now and fragile to be used for stop motion. If we were to make another animated Coraline film, then another set of Coralines, and any other puppets would be made. It would be part of the budget of the film.
If you'd like to see Coraline puppets and sets, along with other Laika characters, Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture has an exhibition on from the 18th of March 2023 until the Summer of 2024.
