Love all the Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 gifsets you’ve been making! Is there any chance you would be willing to make one of Leif and Calinicus from Episode 5 where Calinicus is showing off his big world map (especially the parts where he reveals the hidden panels)? Thank you! 💕
Here it is!
This was an awesome scene and I for sure want to go back and GIF the ‘it’s not heresy if it’s true’ moment because that is such a Leif thing to say. I loved this adventure for him. It was good for his heart as well as his mind, I think
Also, lovely to see you back!

Hey, Merc — thanks for hosting Workshop/WIP Wednesday! I’ve been taking a break from Tumblr for a while (for a bunch of reasons I won’t bore you with), but for the last few weeks I’ve been working on a new writing project, based on the Canal+/BBC Marie Antoinette series and centered on telling the events of the first four episodes through Louis’s perspective. I’m so, so tempted to finish a chunk and then post it (because who doesn’t like feedback and positive reinforcement?), but I’ve told myself that I need to finish the whole thing before posting to lessen the chance I’ll lose steam halfway through and not finish the story. Considering the pace I’m going, though, it might end up taking a lot of the summer (I’m not even through Episode 1 and it’s already 8k). So mostly I’m just looking for some encouragement — or, on the off chance you think my fic idea is terrible, some gentle words of advice that maybe I should cut my losses now before I get much further… :/
This is a GREAT idea! One of the things I personally loved about the new Marie Antoinette was the way they drew out Louis' 'probably on the spectrum' side - those were all things that I knew about him but had never put together in that way. He obviously cares deeply about things going on around him but is so afraid to mess something up because his grandfather is already doing it better.
And the fact that he himself doesn't 'speak' much during those first few episodes doesn't mean that he doesn't have things to say!!
I'm so looking forward to reading whatever it is when you're done!
[workshop Wednesday and we're giving encouragement]

No fucking way. No FUCKING way. I can't believe this. Lafiametta... what the fuck... I can't believe this
Yeah, it's just undeniably shitty.
First and foremost, why would you greenlight a project that is clearly intended to be multi-season and then cancel it less than a month and a half after it aired? So ridiculously short-sighted.
And unless Bo and Jantje decide to spill the beans, we'll never know how it's all supposed to end, a mystery forever left unsolved. (And we'll never get to see Ling Yi and Olek together on the spaceship, which is just so tragic.)
There might be hope it could get picked up by someone else, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
Fic is the only thing left to console me now, I suppose, although it doesn't feel like nearly enough.

10 Characters// 10 Fandoms// 10 Tags
pick 10 characters from 10 fandoms and tag 10 people. Thank you for the tag @ladyyennefer and @therealvikingstrash !!
Guy of Gisbon (BBC Robin Hood) Currently doing a rewatch of this show and forgot how he was a favorite. Clearly dark, hot-headed, men with a soft spot are just as much a thing from my past as it is true for me today :)
Emma of Normandy (Vikings: Valhalla) She's an icon. A badass in her own way. And marries a dark, hot-headed Viking man. How can I not be obsessed with her?
Daniel Arlington aka Darlington (Ninth House) I also have a love for demon fighting, hell exploring, men with a dark past and cynicism. His girlfriend is also a badass fellow demon fighter, so double the trouble ;)
The Fool (The Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb) I love this queer, silly, loyal, outsider. That's all. He is everything. And I need to pick this series back up.
Gabriel De Leon (Empire of the Vampire) Again, dark, hot headed, complicated past, soft spot, the pattern is clear. This man is the only vampire I have considered my favortie, and this book is an all time favorite. I can't wait for book two!
Morgana Pendragon (BBC Merlin) My original queen with a dark heart. She will always be a favorite and always included on any list.
Calian (Walker: Independence) It is so hard to pick a favorite from this short lived western, but I also so happen to love a long-haired, heart of gold, humble man (ode to my Prince Caspian days). Calian was the best ❤️
Donna Noble (Doctor Who) You know, Donna was never an all time favorite companion of mine, but I am loving her in the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary. And plus my favorite Doctor is back! I think this special is gonna make me supper emotional when it is over.
Rissa (Plated Prisoner Series) As for a lot of fantasy romance that I read, secondary characters tend to become my favorite. This is true for my little spit fire, Rissa. She has crawled her way out of the pits, and I just want her to be happy. Particularly with a grumpy, hairy, obsessed with her soldier named Osrik. Gold can't come soon enough! ✨️
Anakin Skywalker (Star Wars) Watching the new Star Wars series -- Asoka and the Obi Wan-Kenobi tv series -- has reminded me of my early kid days and watching Hayden Christian as Anakin. The Original dark, complicated past, misunderstood character. The nostalgia was real.
I don't believe I have 10 people who I can tag, but I will do my best. @lafiametta @naps4bats @phoenixwrites @guinevereslancelot

Thanks for the tag @raving-raven-writing
1. Three Ships:
- Olek and Ling Yi from 1899. The softest ship I have ever watched omg they have me in a chokehold. They don't speak the same language so there's a lot of looking at each other's facial expressions and gentle touches. They only have one language in common and that language is love. I had to make a blog specifically for them: @oleklingyi
- Murphy and Emori from The 100. What can I say? I'm a sucker for the ride-or-die side ship. I'm also a sucker for the outcasts finding each other and falling inlove.
- Osweiller and LJ from Snowpiercer. Yeah...
2. First ever ship: Hmmm the first one that comes to mind is Charlie and Claire from LOST. I watched that show in like grade 7/8...
3. Last Song: "Iris" cover by Chris Lanzon
4. Last movie: Avatar: The Way Of Water
5. currently reading: Fanfic. To be more specific, @lafiametta. They're kindly feeding me my Olek/Ling Yi content. ❤️
6. Currently watching: Literally nothing which is very unlike me. The last thing I watched was Alice In Borderland Season 2.
7. Currently consuming: Water. It's 1:30 am.
8. Currently craving: Pickles.
Only if you want to do this:

Watch his mouth closely during the second gif. It's small and quick but watch how he presses his lips together.
He's absolutely just losing his shit and trying to keep his cool.

Me, reading the PEL update: 💔😭🔪😲
Me, reassuring myself with your “My Babies Deserve A Happy Ending” tag: 🤔
(Anyway, a million kudos to you and your ability to appease all of us ravenous Helnik and Fivan fans! We are definitely not worthy!)
Tumblr media
(Here, it is now the Baymax Head Pat of Emotional Consolation, lmao.)
And thanks! I will not deny that I put you all through the wringer on this segment of the update batches, but anyone who's read one of my fics before knows that this is always something that happens in terms of me vs. your emotions. But for that matter, they also know how things end, so yes. I'm hoping that chapters 16-20 will bring us to the climax/resolution/Other Important Things stage, and it would be nice to wrap it up in those. We shall see.

For the shipping meme: The Terror :)
I seriously should have picked a different meme! @calamity-bean @mannisbaratheon Hello, I’m an absolute moron :D
lowkey otp | :toes sand: Gibson/Tozer...I like things messy.
highkey notp | I don’t have any. There are plenty I don’t really care about, but none I actively shoo off my front porch.
[softly] don’t notp | See above. There are some I don’t really *get* like Irving/Hartnell, but it appeals to people so good! Ship and let ship.
highkey otp but i’m scared of saying it because it’s not a very popular choice | It’s not a highkey one, but it’s something I’d like to see one person attempt though it has absolutely no basis in anything. James Fitzjames/Sophia Cracroft...there’s something appealing about them together...maybe it’s their need for social protection and acceptance.
highkey otp and anyone on my tumblr knows it | I’ll drag the sledge for Hickey/Irving until I collapse. I love their similarities, the palpable tension, and the sheer appeal of their character types. I love them and the many roads they can be led down.

lafiametta replied to your post “i just. i hate my job. i hate my neighbors, who have gone from being...”
I’m so sorry — that sounds really rough. I know there’s not much I can do beyond hoping things turn the corner for you and sending out positive vibes, but know that I’m doing it, big time!
i really appreciate that <3 <3 <3

TAG GAME: EIGHT SHOWS TO GET TO KNOW ME
@fireflyxrebel-writes had an open tag and Im bored between meetings so, why the hell not!
1. Vikings: Valhalla- If you’ve been around that last year+, this one is a give in. As a fan of period dramas, I never really ventured into shows this early in history until VV, but my husband got me into it and now these characters have grabbed me and will not let go. The investment in this story is quite high and has now given me a wonderful fandom to be a part of as well.
2. The Witcher- A fantasy genre indulgence that I was initially hesitant of since I don’t enjoy GoT but do like LOTR, but has since stuck in me. I will forever be a simp for the found family trope and add to that the amazing woman that is Yennefer of Vengerberg and you have me sunk. The strong females as a whole draw me in and keep me invested. With a change up of the lead after season 3, I will struggle to stick with it, but I will watch enough of 4 to see if my husband notices there is a different actor for Geralt.
3. Shadow and Bone- As a big fan of the crows duology, when I knew they would be in the series I had to watch. I continue for that story and for the hopeful spin-off. I also watch just for the cast- they are such an inclusive and lovely bunch of people that I do it for them.
4. Miss Scarlet and the Duke- Victorian England, unapologetically independent and smart lady, handsome police detective reluctant counter part, mutual pining and slow burn, enjoyable supporting cast- what isn’t to love about this show? Hits all the notes for me and I think more people would fall in love with it if they knew about it.
5. The Office (US)- It is one of those comfort shows for me. It plays in the background while I do stuff or I watch it if there is nothing else on or don’t have the mental capacity to get invested in anything. It’s my TV security blanket.
6. NCIS- I will preference this with I do not watch past Ziva’s exit (so season 11 onward I have not seen). It’s the first show I think I actually got invested in. It creates stories outside of drama related plot lines, fleshes our characters and allows slow builds and character arcs to truly shine. I think streaming media needs to take notes and revert back to this type of story telling rather than cram everything into 8 episodes.
7. After Life- Perhaps not one that most people would peg for me, but the way it deals with a significant loss and the surviving person coming to terms with that while simultaneously intertwining additional heavy subject matter along side normal life BS is just amazing. It is some of the best dark humor out there and, in my mind, is flawless in every way.
8. Law and Order- The show that probably started my true crime obsession and the reason some true crime podcast is always playing or I’m watching some true crime documentary. I enjoy the (usually) single episode stories and the original show had some amazing cast members. It is a basis for inspiration in some of my AU fanfic writings and has so many seasons that there are probably still episodes I haven’t seen.
Tagging @something-more @witch-and-her-witcher @shelivesinhermind @mercurygray @naps4bats and @lafiametta but not pressure lovelies!

*quietly slides a 💌 under your blog door*
!!!
It takes a really special kind of internet friend and kindred spirit to follow someone through not or two but at least five or six fandoms over about the same number of years. You are also, it needs to be said, a wielder of fabulous ideas in writing prompts. Thanks for continuing to have impeccable taste and being the reason I've started at least one new period drama!

“Poised on the Edge of the World” is still one of my favorite all-time Joplittle fics! The AU setting is so awesome and I love all the other cameos of Terror characters as well. Lord, what I wouldn’t give for another chapter... ;)
Thank you! ❤️❤️
It is also on my personal favorites, and I really did intend to go back to it (and I may still in the future)

i am here to ask for touching prompts 44, 14, and 3. (If they haven’t been done already) i am literally infatuated by olek and ling Yi and ur prompts r fueling my obsession with them. thank you for your service lafiametta you are carrying this fandom on your back.
So #3 ("hiding face in neck") has already been requested, but I'm happy to do a combo of #44 ("sitting on the other's lap") and #14 ("putting an arm around the other's waist"). Again, set in the New York AU, with a bit of a holiday twist! (For a visual reference and more info about Olek's gift, click here.)
One Sunday in late December, she and Olek take the elevated train and then a streetcar to his brother's apartment in Brooklyn. Besides being a Sunday, it's a religious holiday and the two of them have been invited to join Janusz and his wife at the service in their neighborhood church and then for a small, celebratory meal in their apartment afterwards.
Outside, the air is so cold, her breath crystalizing in puffs of white, and she pulls her thin coat closer, hoping for a little extra warmth.
Inside the church it's more comfortable, and while Ling Yi does get several errant stares—and a few more blatant ones—she's glad for the peace and calm the service provides. There's some singing and praying and at times they're asked to stand or to kneel. Olek closes his eyes when he prays, his forehead pressed against his clasped hands, and she smiles to herself at how he looks, so sweet and sincere. After it's over, they trudge back to Janusz's apartment, where they sit at the wooden table and share a meal of beef and boiled potatoes. There's a cake, studded with dried fruit and a dusting of sugar, and while Ling Yi isn't much for sweets, she lets Janusz's wife serve her a full slice. Most of the conversation is in Polish, leaving her with little to contribute, although she does offer up a few things Olek has taught her. Both Janusz and Agnieszka seem appreciative of her effort, and far less distrustful than they had been when she and Olek first arrived on their doorstep.
After the meal, they exchange gifts. The ones Olek and Ling Yi give are modest, just plain handkerchiefs that he purchased second-hand and that she embroidered with either navy or rose-colored thread. Janusz and Agnieszka thank them both, and then Janusz presents them with a handsome mantel clock, its dark wooden base carved and polished to a sheen.
By the time they head back across the river, the afternoon light is thinning, the winds picking up, and Olek slips an arm around her waist, warm and heavy against the cold.
Once they're home and have had a moment to light the stove, Olek takes the clock over to the shelves of their makeshift parlor and tries to find the most appropriate place for it. Ling Yi sits at the kitchen table and slips off her boots, then tries to rub some feeling back into her toes. She becomes so preoccupied that she doesn't immediately notice as he comes to sit in the chair beside her, his hand reaching in his pocket for something that he places right in front of her.
It's small, no larger than her hand, wrapped in brown paper and tied with twine.
“For you,” he says in English, a touch sheepishly. His cheeks are flushed with pink, something she would attribute to the cold outside, but she suspects it has more to do with the gift he's put before her.
She glances at him curiously, even as her heart is growing fuller by the moment. Olek has already given her so much; why would he think she would need anything more than what she has already?
Receiving no other answer, she pulls off the twine, fingers eagerly unfolding the paper to reveal the object inside.
Ling Yi stills, her breath catching in her throat.
It's pale green, a smooth and perfectly polished circle, cool to the touch even though a part of her would swear it feels alive. She hasn't seen a jade bracelet like this in more than a year, not since the one she wore on her left wrist since she was a girl was painfully tugged off, lost and forgotten somewhere in Hong Kong with many of their other belongings.
The instructions had been specific: when Ling Yi boarded the English ship in the harbor she needed to look Japanese, with no trace of the Chinese girl she had been. The bracelet had to go.
It had been given to her by her mother years earlier, for good luck and protection, and it had grown so tight around her wrist that it was nearly impossible to remove. The outside of her hand had been mottled with bruises for several weeks afterwards, and during the long ocean journey she often found herself pressing her fingertips into them, the pain a distraction from the feelings of guilt and loss that threatened to overwhelm her.
But how would Olek know any of this? He wouldn't, of course. He probably just thought the bracelet was beautiful—which it was, admittedly—without knowing what it would mean to her. She smiles a little, thinking of how he must have secretly searched for something in the pawnshops of Chinatown, how the proprietor must have taken one look at him and immediately decided to charge double the cost of whatever he wanted to buy.
But he had found this for her. And with it, he has given something back to her, a piece of herself she thought forever gone.
It takes a moment before she realizes she is crying.
She glances over at Olek, who looks horrified. His eyes are wide, searching, as if he's trying to figure out what has gone wrong.
“No?” he asks, his voice tinged with worry, as he reaches out and lays a hand over her arm. “No good?”
Ling Yi shakes her head, smiling at him through her tears. “Good,” she tells him, repeating the word again and again as she wipes her cheeks dry. She slips the bracelet on her wrist; it slides easily, with only a hint of resistance, as if it was meant to be there.
With a painful tug in her chest, she realizes she has nothing to give him in return.
The only thing she has is herself, and her heart—for all that it's worth.
Pushing up from her chair, Ling Yi walks over and lowers herself into his lap. Without hesitation, Olek's arms circle around her waist, pulling her close, enveloping her within the warmth of his body. Her hands curl over his shoulders, catching on his shirt collar, her head coming to rest in the crook of his neck. It is so calm and peaceful here, a shelter from the coldness of the world outside.
“Dziękuję, Olek,” she whispers, using one of the words he had taught her at this very table. He makes a small, contented sound and then kisses the top of her head, as his arms curl more protectively around her.
[send me an Olek x Ling Yi kissing or touching prompt]
