THE FREAK FLAG STILL FLIES!

2015 Oregon Country Fair  The first but not the last visit to OCF was life changing!   This festival is the most artful, mindful, entertaining, and welcoming festival I have ever been to.  From the Further bus to the compost bins this festival has it all!  The art, music, performances, community and the environmental education is TOP SOIL.  I hope to go back soon.

 At this amazing festival I met and heard the PATCH ADAMS!  His speech has inspired me to go on one of his mission trips.  I am leaving Mid Jan 2017 for Ecuador to train with Patch and learn more about Caring Through Clowning

Last month we weeded, built a bamboo Teepee, and planted okra, sunflowers and beans. Now it looks so good with the beans just starting to climb the sides. Fear not and believe!! Faeries were sighted! Ms. Melabee and I rejoined the faerie mission of dancing and merriment. We are so grateful for the beautiful weather, trees, flowers, and smiles of our big and little friends! It's Earth day tomorrow. So much to do with celery! Cut and put leafy stalk in colored water. Watch the tips of leaves change color in 30min-2hrs, showing the straw like function of stems (try different colors to see what shows faster). Use bottom as a stamp to make floral designs or put the bottom in water and root/regrow. Cut stalk and make letter shapes like C, U, M, W, O, E, the numbers 3 and 8. Taste test celery. It's Crunchy and that word starts with C. The organic celery has a stronger flavor. Fred Rogers believed that one of the fundamentals of learning readiness is the capacity to look and listen carefully. I believe too. Using inquiry-based methods helps us focus on the little things like noticing the seeds inside a kiwi or that light can pass through its fleshy fruit like stained glass. Also, noticing... A treasure. Treated well, a school garden is a treasure trove of discoveries. Well done , @akidsworld_childcare ! Today I saw several monarchs along with many bees. Yay for Garden Club! So much to do as we kickoff a new program at A Kids World. We started this garden together this summer and now we get to work in it each week! Today we started our own garden book, tasted homemade grape jelly, met some caterpillars, cleared corn, saved seeds, planted sugar snaps, cleared the Teepee path, harvested tomatoes, and looked for bugs. Happy to team up with Ms.Rebekah here! From making simple syrup to full on yummy hibiscus tea, all 6 or our classes enjoyed measuring and making their own heart healthy drink to beat the heat.
