hello piso my biggest enabler and one of my favorite authors!! (I really was not kidding when I said I think about runaway catwalker near daily because of your clever wit ALONE)
🐑 tags: ladrien, hurt/comfort, marinette dpc|lb needs a hug 💕
Adrien returns to life with a swarm of ladybugs. As he does so, he finds Ladybug alone on the ground, sobbing about having almost lost the love of her life before her very eyes. He doesn’t know who Ladybug’s boyfriend was or how he’d died (a lot of people had been killed in this attack), but Adrien can see how much his Lady needs to express the pain of this loss with someone and she cannot do so with the boy who means so much to her, not without compromising her identity.
And so Adrien offers: let him act as a stand-in for Ladybug’s boyfriend, he’ll be her listening ear and let her say all the words she longs to say, without endangering the one she truly loves.

something something necromancer Marinette AU where Adrien keeps throwing himself into danger to protect her because “she’ll just bring him back” but she never thought she’d fall so hard for the guy she met by accidentally reanimating his corpse
and can she marry someone who’s legally dead anyways?
like. for tax reasons

@buggachat’s new fic, Drowning in Plain Sight, has consumed my thoughts.
It is so good that it destroyed my art block. I mean, I even drew a background, which is crazy.

2 years ago i had a fanfic idea where Monarch locked Adrien in a tiny padded room after discovering he was Chat Noir and took his Miraculous, but i discarded the idea because i thought Gabriel would never do that to his own son.
...
Turns out...

These two lines in the movie make me the most mentally unwell.
"I should have been the one to go. You needed your mother more than you needed me."
The amount of layers to this, oh my god. He's blaming himself for being alive. He probably wants to die. He genuinely thinks Adrian needs Emilie more.
And it's been YEARS since Emilie's passed away. Look how tiny Adrian is over there, he only just about comes about the bedpost. Gabriel still looks like he did in the pictures of when Adrian was little. It's been literal years. It could have literally been a full decade ago.
And Gabriel breaks the narrative here. He's supposed to be telling a story, he's supposed to be saying what happened in the past. But at this point, he doesn't say "your mother was taken from us" or anything like that referencing Emilie's passing. The story breaks, he's using a statement. I should have been the one to go. It's completely out of the story, because he isn't saying what he felt then, there's no "I felt like I should have been the one to go". It's just "I should have been."
Because he still thinks this. It's been about a decade, and his opinion, his feelings about this, is still "I should have died". It interrupts his storytelling because of how strongly he feels this way, almost like it's a fact to him.
And then he follows it with "You needed your mother more than you needed me." Again, he says this like it's a fact, like Adrian actually did need his mother more. Because he believes it himself. And this could be because of so many things. It could be because of the way people consider the mother to be the one supposed to care for the children much more than the father, or it could be that Gabriel himself didn't see how much Adrian needed him, or even that Gabriel didn't see himself as useful to Adrian. Especially because he said he should have been the one to die. He's essentially saying he was useless. That he was expendable but Emilie wasn't. He literally is implying he doesn't see any worth in himself regarding being a father.
And then it's not just his grief, it's Adrian's grief that has him desperate to bring Emilie back. He literally doesn't care about himself, he wants his son to be happy and doesn't see himself as able to do that. He loves him to the point of being suicidal and self-sacrificing if it would give Adrian what he need, all while simultaneously not seeing himself as what Adrian needs because he doesn't think he has that much worth regarding him.

When we really stop to think, the great tragedy of Miraculous is that Marinette was led to believe that she herself needs to endure every burden, solve every problem, stand to whatever pressure, match every expectation of everybogy around her... that she needs to hold the sky, just so she could be considered to be enough.
And no one tells her that she is actually allowed to ask for help... no one actually tells her she do not need to be Atlas...

All along, he was just a hurt lonely baby that needs friends, to be loved, and to be appreciated rather than controlled because of his status.

Overwhelming
The door clicked shut behind her, the sound cutting through the silence like a knife—a signal that she was finally free to fall apart. Yet when she saw him standing there, waiting, the only thing she wanted was for him to disappear.
“Honey?”
She shook her head, unable to even look at him. “No. Not now.”
“Please.” His voice cracked, and the sight of his tear-filled eyes ripped her heart into jagged pieces, tearing at her insides like glass.
“Why?” Her voice was a raw, bitter scream. “Why!” She kept shouting, the word spilling out again and again, louder, more desperate, as everything inside her crumbled into dust.
Her legs gave way, collapsing under the weight of it all. But he was there—always there—catching her before she hit the floor.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered, holding her tight as her body shook with violent sobs. “I’m so, so sorry.”

whenever adrien gets sad, he writes random letters to ladybug that he knows he's never going to send her. he just likes the feeling of being able to talk to her about things, about his father, about his mother, about modelling, about his self esteem, and since he'd never have the bravery to reach for that comfort in person, writing it on paper is the next best thing. they become almost like a diary over the years.
flash forward to when they're older, post reveal, and getting ready to move in together. marinette is sorting through some boxes and finds a bundle of pages addressed to ladybug. at first she thinks its fanmail she forgot about, but as she begins to read she realises just how much her chaton had gone through all on his own, just how much he wanted her to be there for him but didn't know how to ask.
she doesn't mention it to adrien afterwards. but she cuddles him noticeably tighter that night when they go to bed.

This is self-made. Date: 02.01.2024. The Cass/Steph I saw coming... the rest? Not so much.
I assume no guarantee or liability for the completeness, correctness and accuracy of this chart despite my best efforts.
Includes fanfictions in all languages available, NOT English only. Includes all fandoms on Ao3 connected to DC, Batman etc.
Percentages were rounded up or rounded down to natural numbers for easier comprehension.
Results for the pairing "Cass/Reader" and "Cass/You" were added up, as were the results for female and male OC's.
Poly ships were not included.
More charts will follow. :)
Want to have a chart for different pairings, headcanons etc. in your favourite fandom? Send me an ask!

"Marinette, your coping mechanisms aren't healthy. Please, go see a therapist. You don't need to say that you're Ladybug." Said Alya.
And she's not wrong.
Marinette's first response is to push everyone away and isolate herself. It's why Alya, Alix, Rose, Juleka, and Myléne were akumatized as the Gang if Secrets, after Marinette told them that "I don't need friends."
Alya saw Marinette tell Chat Noir that maybe she doesn't need him, when she knows that what she said was a load of bullshit. Marinette loves that cat more than everyone (second only to Adrien), whether she'd admit it or not.
Then she'd try to face it alone. Alone. Even when it's clear she isn't okay, she tries to face it alone.
Her next response is to lie. Not in a selfish and deceiving way, no. She'll lie for others. Heck, she let Adrien believe that the scarf she made him was from his father all because he looked so happy. Marinette's most selfish lie, in Alya's opinion, is her alter ego, but even that isn't for evil intentions. She lies to spare others the pain. Not a good thing, but it's not selfish.
Then, she'd run. Figuratively, but she'd run. From her feelings, from the world. From everyone. She'd just run.
And to top it all off, she'd wear that same warm, kind, and gentle smile everyday, fooling everybody. Making everyone think that she's okay. No one even realizes, Marinette's figurative mask is even more convincing than her mask as Ladybug.
Alya hates seeing her like this.
Marinette is the first real hero she's met, even before she knew about her alter ego.
Of course, she wasn't perfect. She had her flaws, she's made really bad choices in the past, but would make up for it, and she keeps trying to be a better person everyday.
The girl would always be there to help others in every way she can. Everytime, without asking for anything in return.
"Please, Marinette." Alya pleaded. "Just try it."
Alya waits for Marinette's response.
Marinette doesn't say anything.

Derision is my entire case for why this show needs a reboot ASAP. I loved the approach of maneuvering Marinette’s issues as a product of bullying because, as someone who was bullied, I wish more shows were willing to dig into how much that messes someone up.
The obvious issue is that none of this was built up to in previous seasons—just Chloe being a jerk—so it feels awkward to long-time fans and anyone who was banking on Chloe redemption. There was zero consesus in the writer’s room at any point, I can feel it. I think this could be so well done if it actually fit into the story—if Socqueline existed before this season, if Marinette had a stronger aversion to Kim, if more of her classmates looked at the situation with Lila and were able to see the similarities with Chloe… so many things.
I think a show as significant as this one will see many spinoffs and additional properties, so hopefully the story is handled better in the future. My last prayer right now is that the movie is good so I can abandon one canon for another.
