Adrien returns to life with a swarm of ladybugs. As he does so, he finds Ladybug alone on the ground, sobbing about having almost lost the love of her life before her very eyes. He doesn’t know who Ladybug’s boyfriend was or how he’d died (a lot of people had been killed in this attack), but Adrien can see how much his Lady needs to express the pain of this loss with someone and she cannot do so with the boy who means so much to her, not without compromising her identity.

And so Adrien offers: let him act as a stand-in for Ladybug’s boyfriend, he’ll be her listening ear and let her say all the words she longs to say, without endangering the one she truly loves.

SO I AM NOT AT ALL GOING INSANE RIGHT NOW. NOPE.

It's not like Sabrina and Adrien were the only two characters who had yet to change there appearance this season. And it was only after Sabrina was able to understand her identity and her self-worth outside of Chloe that she was able to "unlock" a new look for herself.

IT'S NOT LIKE ADRIEN has been stuck in understanding himself only through those around him. Or that he's been trapped in his father's shadow since day one. Never worthy of being around. but always expected to hold up the expectations of being Gabriel Agreste's son.

IT'S NOT LIKE we have been TEASED and INFORMED through every. single. episode. of. this. season. That Adrien is lost, that he is struggling to understand himself and his identity. That we have yet to really see how Adrien, who hates change, is processing everything in his life changing.

IT'S NOT LIKE Adrien is gathering new people to fill his life and occupy the space his father's death created. Because he doesn't know how to grieve. he was never allowed to. And he doesn't know how to grieve his father when he's been grieving him his whole life.

IT'S. NOT. LIKE. Adrien puts on the same clothes his father picked out for him. Not willing to make the choice to iron them, but instead passively going through the motions of just putting them on. Simultaneously not really making a choice for himself but also somehow making the choice to remain his father's pet

My principal 2 ideas

how this could start is either way patrol goes bad or a Mission with the JL or both combined and everyone is mad at Bruce because yes his paranoia IS a problem but they all could have reacted better beacause THEY KNOW BETTER, Bruce has dedicated his life to try and teach them better than what he knew himself and also had TRIED to keep them out of the "Heroism" beacuse i need to do the reminder that most of them were the ones that started as vigilantes and not Bruce pushing them into that.

his children (imma go more in deep here cause this is the rout i will probably go for):

Dick started because dude has enraged cause his parents died and wanted to track down their killer, and B trained him so he (dick) didnt get killed. Jason was happy being robing cause "it gave him magic" (IT DID, but when a ray of sunshine is to bright the world destroys it)

Tim didn't even wanted to be robin in the first place, i mean ofc he wanted but the baby had many issues, so he looked for Dick and quite literally asked him to "pls be robin again, bat is angy and bein mean to people" by mean i meant HES PUTTING PEOPLE INTO EMERGENCY CARE, eventually i think Dick and Bruce got into troble with BANE and fucking alfred gave the robin suit to an UNTRAINED child and told him "Yo go save them chum" and Tim in his rational mind went to save 2 vigilantes as a child and untrained (alfred IS also the problem),

yes, i havent forgot that Tim did kinda blackmailed Bruce and half-"man-handle" him into self and kind of mental health in some comics, Bruce didn't wanted Tim to be Robin because he still couldn't forget Jason's death wich still haunted him and still does. then Tim almost fckin dies and he needs to stay in bed rest and then

Stephanie is Robin for like a while and then she wither quits or Bruce fires her i think, and she comes back as Batgirl and the Spoiler

Cassandra is literally there by choice, she says it in the comics "Im Batman's Daughter By choice" also she's a trained assasin, she wants to be there, she wants to help and She does not kill.

Duke is Adopted cause of his parents situation (they are jokerized) and he's a meta (also the only bat that does patrols at Daytime) and he was the lider of the ROBINS club, bro literally had a mini gang of people calling themself's Robins to help Batman (i havent read stuff in a while so FEEL FREE TO CORRECT ME)

Barbara was there from the start and even before Dick in some characterizations (or shes as old as Bruce, as she sould be) Girl has gotten DE-aged so many times just to be shipped, GIRL DESERVES BETTER, so she should be older than him atleast by 7 years plssss, and when she started as Batgirl she didn't even worked for bruce.

then there is Maps (Mia "Maps" Mizoguchi) WHICH I will make her appear in the story (she's a student from Gotham Academy, she's also the founder of the "Detective's club") "Her journey as Robin is explored through various comics, including Batman: Black and White. Batman's perspective on Maps' role is officially revealed in The Brave and the Bold #12. Maps isn't just any sidekick; she's a named Robin in Batman's eyes as of 2024." -Google chrome and me cause i read the comic

it resolves in everyone (exept some) snapping at Bruce and making him for the first time in a LONG time think about throw in the Cowl, yes. imma make it so gutrenching angst and also very fluffy, because Bruce has started to go once a month to a therapy session with Dinah either in person or bya Zoom or somtheing like that and its been doing okay, and the thing is those sessions are just a follow up from the previous stuff he was doing cause in Tim made him go to therapy at first (cause of Jasons death and Bruce's other issues) and this event is just gonna make Bruce just go to france to have a very well needed stayacion.

Just realized that Werepapas might coincidentally shed some light on Felix and Adrien's relationship? Or explain it better?

The first time Felix was ever mentioned was on Adrien's official Instagram; he posted a picture of the Couffaine twins with the caption that they reminded him of himself and his cousin. But then their old dynamic is never really addressed in the show, and a lot of people wondered how exactly Felix was different from Chloe's role as Adrien's childhood friend.

The Werepapas flashbacks paint a picture of a household that was only half full, most of the time. It was just Emilie and Adrien. So like... I could totally see Emilie trying to fill that void with the only other family she has. Amelie and Felix were probably coming over all the time, because they were alone too. She might have wanted Adrien to firmly have that same sense of never being alone that she's always had by virtue of being a twin. I think Felix and Adrien were consequentially raised more as siblings than as cousins. Chloe is the (honorary) cousin here.

YES I think Emilie’s memories of growing up with a twin might even have been one of the reasons she wanted to “help” Amelie conceive! It was the only way she found to give Adrien a younger sibling… Emilie probably also suspected or outright knew something was wrong in the Fathoms’ marriage, and having Amelie and Felix come over was the best way to get them out of danger, at least for a little while.

From a doylist perspective, I really think making Adrien and Felix cousins was a way to give Adrien a quasi sibling while avoiding the obvious plot issues that would come with Another Guy (especially This Guy) being in the same house as Chat Noir and Monarch 24/7. It’s clear these two love each other so much — I like to say Adrien wants their bond to go back to what it was when they were kids, while Felix is trying to build it into something new and stronger and brighter, free of the horrors they experienced back then. And doing everything wrong, of course.

Something i've been wondering about Emilie for a while

I have often wondered if Adrien suddenly wanting to go to school and sneaking out right after his mother disappeared had something to do with the fact that one of the two people who wore his amok wasn't there to control him anymore (especially since Emilie was the one who used the peacock Miraculous and thus, "created" Adrien).

Don't get me wrong, Emilie seemed to be a very kind and lively person. She definitely was a lot nicer to Adrien than Gabriel ever was, and Adrien always speaks very highly of her.

The Werepapas episode showed us a glimpse of what his life was before his mother disappeared and they definitely had a strong and sweet bond. They must have shared a lot of amazing and loving moments that will be forever engraved in Adrien's heart.

But nothing is ever black and white, especially in the show.

We've often assumed at the beginning of the show that Adrien growing up isolated from the world was Gabriel's doing, but we tended to forget that his mother was here when he was younger and he still wasn't allowed to go to school or have friends (let alone a birthday party). Emilie must have had a say in the way they raised Adrien and maybe she might have been against sheltering him, but she did nothing in the end, and Adrien was raised in a gilded cage till she disappeared.

We've only been shown crumbs of the person Emilie was when she was still alive and even though her light seemed dimmed in the videos Nathalie watched or in the Werepapas episode (because she was obviously sick), Emilie seemed to have a strong personality: Gabriel described Adrien as "emotional" and and also said things like "I have to apologize for my son, he’s like his mom, he’s way too overly dramatic" and "Quite a temper, you remind me of someone" before turning to his wife's painting in Simon Says.

What i'm reading between those lines is that Emilie wasn't an "overly dramatic" person, but seemed to be someone who stood her ground and didn't back off in front of her husband or anyone else, and wanted her opinions and wishes to be heard and fulfilled.

And even though i don't like the idea of her using Adrien's amok against him, it still was in the wedding ring she was wearing all the time.

Another thing is that Adrien is really fond of his mother so she definitely must not have been evil and she loved her son a lot and took good care of him. But as he lost her quite young, he also must have an idolized image of her.

The best example i can compare that situation with is Harry Potter: he grew up without parents so he created this perfect image of them in his head to compensate for his loss. Harry even defended his dad against Severus Snape when he accused James Potter of being "exceedingly arrogant". But in the later books, Harry came to face the hard truth that his father wasn't exactly the perfect person he thought he was (I'm not saying that Severus Snape was an angel, but he was actively bullied by James Potter and his gang so he has every right to loathe him). The only thing that differs in Harry's situation is that he was a lot younger than Adrien when he lost his parents. Harry never knew them, unlike Adrien who spent at least 13 years with his mom.

This is why i think that, even though Emilie was kind and loved her son more than anything, the only thing that Adrien remembers of his mom are the good times. The human mind often tends to choose to forget the bad times to compensate for the loss, and Adrien must have forgotten the bad memories like any person who lost a parent they loved would do (because there must have been bad times, any family as perfect as they want to be cannot be perfect all the time).

These two lines in the movie make me the most mentally unwell.

"I should have been the one to go. You needed your mother more than you needed me."

The amount of layers to this, oh my god. He's blaming himself for being alive. He probably wants to die. He genuinely thinks Adrian needs Emilie more.

And it's been YEARS since Emilie's passed away. Look how tiny Adrian is over there, he only just about comes about the bedpost. Gabriel still looks like he did in the pictures of when Adrian was little. It's been literal years. It could have literally been a full decade ago.

And Gabriel breaks the narrative here. He's supposed to be telling a story, he's supposed to be saying what happened in the past. But at this point, he doesn't say "your mother was taken from us" or anything like that referencing Emilie's passing. The story breaks, he's using a statement. I should have been the one to go. It's completely out of the story, because he isn't saying what he felt then, there's no "I felt like I should have been the one to go". It's just "I should have been."

Because he still thinks this. It's been about a decade, and his opinion, his feelings about this, is still "I should have died". It interrupts his storytelling because of how strongly he feels this way, almost like it's a fact to him.

And then he follows it with "You needed your mother more than you needed me." Again, he says this like it's a fact, like Adrian actually did need his mother more. Because he believes it himself. And this could be because of so many things. It could be because of the way people consider the mother to be the one supposed to care for the children much more than the father, or it could be that Gabriel himself didn't see how much Adrian needed him, or even that Gabriel didn't see himself as useful to Adrian. Especially because he said he should have been the one to die. He's essentially saying he was useless. That he was expendable but Emilie wasn't. He literally is implying he doesn't see any worth in himself regarding being a father.

And then it's not just his grief, it's Adrian's grief that has him desperate to bring Emilie back. He literally doesn't care about himself, he wants his son to be happy and doesn't see himself as able to do that. He loves him to the point of being suicidal and self-sacrificing if it would give Adrian what he need, all while simultaneously not seeing himself as what Adrian needs because he doesn't think he has that much worth regarding him.

From a storytelling standpoint I find it so interesting that Adrien’s design this season is so similar to what it was the last 5 season, except a few minor changes. And I am so interested in what tiny, minor changes they did choose to implement

We already know that there was intention behind all of the changes or lack thereof for Adrien’s wardrobe, but there is one change that keeps catching my eye.

It’s honestly the sneakers. We as a fandom have made so many jokes and references to the *ahem* bright colored sneakers, but honestly I think there’s something important here that they’re trying to tell us with Adrien’s footwear

Adrien went from wearing those bright orange sneakers, to wearing a pair that is distinctively plain white. This is intentional. They want us to notice that they changed the sneakers. They did not change the sneakers to another shade of orange, they did not make them into a different bright colored. They changed them from one extreme to another, the effect being that, when your eyes look at them, they immediately know that something is missing

Of all the things they chose to change in Adrien, which were sparingly little, they chose to change the sneakers. Of course this begs the question why? They could have saved the money on the new character design, they could have spared the effort, but they insisted on changing the sneakers

I believe this has to do with a certain logo found on the shoes

I think that the change in sneakers, from a symbolism standpoint all comes down to the butterfly. Plain and simple, Adrien is no longer under the control of Hawkmoth.

With the butterfly Miraculous out of his power, and the amoks safely in the care and control of Adrien himself, Gabriel no longer is in any magical control of Adrien. Adrien, is so to speak “free” of the butterfly.

HOWEVER…

This doesn’t mean that Adrien is free of Gabriel. While the shoes may be different, nearly everything else is exactly the same. The same pants, same shirt, same jacket. It’s the same outfits except it’s unkept and unsure. Gabriel is still directing Adrien’s choices, he’s still very much running the show.

This all is such beautiful symbolism of the hold that Gabriel still has on Adrien, of Adrien’s grapple with freedom. And just as he freed himself with his shoes, I think over the course of the season, we might see a few more changes to his attire…

When we really stop to think, the great tragedy of Miraculous is that Marinette was led to believe that she herself needs to endure every burden, solve every problem, stand to whatever pressure, match every expectation of everybogy around her... that she needs to hold the sky, just so she could be considered to be enough.

And no one tells her that she is actually allowed to ask for help... no one actually tells her she do not need to be Atlas...
