Chapter 7

Summary: The final chapter

George faded in and out of sleep. Voices surrounded him in a mummered, hazy sort of way. He couldn't make out most of them, but someone was angry.

"Look, his bruises and cuts are already healing," the voice agrued. "And the Skele-Grow will regrow his teeth by morning. He'll be fine. There's no need for you to stay."

"There's every reason for me to stay," another voice retorted. "What if he wakes - "

"I've given him a sleeping draft. He'll be out all night."

"I don't care! I'm not leaving him."

"Excuse me, young lady - " the other voice began.

But then a new voice laced with gentle laughter cut in. "I see no reason why the girl can't stay. There are no other patients here, so I'm sure you could spare another bed."

Some other things were said, but they sounded muddled and far away. And then there was nothing.

George blinked his eyes open and looked around. He recognized the lights of the infirmary almost immediately. This wasn't his first time here. Nor would it be the last. However, it was the first time he was here because he'd gotten the shit beat out of him. Though he was pretty sure Montcroix got it just a bit worse.

"Hey there," a soft voice said, followed by the rustle of fabric. He turned and saw Y/N sitting up on the hospital bed next to his. George sat up, and the room spun around him. "Fuck," he mummered and lay back down.

"That's probably the effects of the sleeping draft," Y/N said, moving to sit beside him. "Madam Pomfrey gave you a pretty large dose. She didn't want you up and trying to talk while your teeth grew back."

"My teeth?" George's hand went straight to his mouth, feeling around for any gaps.

"They've all grown back now," Y/N said. "Montcroix knocked three of them out."

George nodded and attempted to sit up again, this time much slower. "How is the rank bastard?"

"Worse off than you," she said.

"How many bones did I break?" George grinned.

"None, actually. But you dislocated his elbow."

"I... what?"

"When you punched his arm, you knocked his elbow to the wrong side of his arm," Y/N explained. "The last I saw him, his arm was bent in the complete opposite direction of what it should be."

"Damn," George chuckled. "Where's he at now?" He looked around the room.

"St. Mungo's. Apparently, he required more treatment than they could give him here," she shrugged. "And he's suspended indefinitely. Possibly facing expulsion."

The grin on George's face faded as the memory of Y/N's terrified face flickered through his mind. "You told them what happened, yeah?"

"Of course," she said. "I'm not about to let that worthless fucker get away with it."

"Good. He deserves - " George began, but was cut off by Madam Pomfrey bustling over.

Y/N moved off the bed and out of the way while the healer examined him. "Excellent," she said. "Everything's progressing well. You still have one tooth that hasn't completely grown back. I'll discharge you once it's fully healed. Shouldn't be more than an hour or two." Madam Pomfrey then turned to Y/N. "I trust you'll be staying with him."

"Yes, of course."

The healer gave a curt nod. "Very well, then. I'll have breakfast brought up for the both of you."

Y/N watched her scurry away before she returned to her spot beside George.

"Hey," she said after a few moments. "Thanks for saving me last night. I don't want to think about what might've happened if I hadn't run into you."

"Quite literally," he smiled briefly. He didn't want to think about it either. But one thing was for certain, Montcroix would've ended up with more than a dislocated elbow if -

"George, umm..." Y/N said, pulling him from his dark thoughts. "I'm really sorry about everything that's happened between us. I really fucked up." She paused, chewing on her lip, warring with herself over her next words.

Oh, what the hell, what do I have to lose at this point?

"I need to be honest with you," she continued. "But I don't want you to feel like you have to do anything about it. It's my problem to deal with, not yours."

She met George's eyes. "I love you. I've loved you for a long time now. That's why I agreed to fake date you. Because I know you don’t feel the same way and I thought that was as close as I'd get to... being your girlfriend." The heat rose in her cheeks and she turned away to hide her tears.

"What in Godric's name made you think I didn't feel the same way?" He asked.

"What?" Y/N turned to stare at him.

George's heart pounded in his chest. "Why do you think I even suggested we fake date? It had nothing to do with Montcroix. I used him as a convenient excuse, because I was too chicken shit to tell you the truth."

Y/N continued to stare at him, and he reached out to cup her face in his hands. "I love you too, Y/N. More than I could ever possibly express. But, if it's ok with you, I'd like to try."

Y/N nodded slowly. "Ok..."

George smiled at her stunned expression. "Is it ok if I kiss you?"

"Uh huh," she said, leaning toward him.

The kiss was soft and slow and passionate and would've gone on far longer if it weren't for Madam Pomfrey barging in.

"Your breakfast," she said with a disproving scowl and placed it on a nearby table. "Also, your twin brother is here, Mr. Weasley," she continued.

George leaned over to see Fred standing at the entrance with a shit-eating grin. The younger twin chuckled. "Looks we are now publicly official," he said to Y/N.

"You think Fred saw us kissing?" She asked.

"Every second of it."

"Well then," she said, taking his hand and intertwining their fingers. "No point in waiting. Let’s tell the whole world."

Red: this isn’t uncommon considering his pet cat, baby bones, is a total cuddle bug. When red sees his SO asleep with his cat on the couch, he practically melts inside. He’ll give them both a sappy smile then leave so he doesn’t wake them up.

Edge: well crap, doomfanger hates almost every one, so edge might as well marry SO. He’ll never find another date with his cats approval. Edge is quite flustered and needs to go outside so he can screech out all his cute-aggression.

Oak: his pet chicken, baconator, is a very friendly lady. She follows every one in the back yard and likes to jump on people’s shoulders. However she isn’t toilet trained. So oak pulls a sneaky mission impossible and quietly picks up his chicken, giving her a treat to keep her silent. That way SO doesn’t wake to their shirt ruined.

Rancher: his most prized cow, the tank, sometimes forgets that only rancher is strong enough to pick her up like the cute lap dog she is, so every one knows not to sleep in the fields or else the tank will strike. Poor SO weakly calls to rancher for help when they wake up with the dairy cow laying on her side on their lap. Rancher hurriedly scoops tank up into his arms so SO can crawl away to safety.

Mal: He gets this quite a bit, he's a handsome, stylish skele afterall. He'll happily say he's taken by you, his dragonfly, and he's not interested. If they're persistent, he'll be less than pleasant.

Midas: He doesn't react to their initial flirting, or give them the time to have an opening. But, if they're persistent, he'll be very blunt in saying that he's taken and not interested.

Zil'ec's cousin and fellow sea monster, Nessa (she/her)!

(but i might just say fuck it and change her name to Nessie. i'll probably redesign her skeleton monster girlfriend, Jay, soon, after i redesign a different background skele of mine.)

she's an outdoorsy, social, energetic, friendly lady, and she loves reading. she also likes going on hikes, swimming (she LOVES swimming- sea monsters have a natural affinity for swimming!), and working out. she's not on monster or human social media much, besides taking and posting nature photos.

she's a big contrast to her partner Jay (she/they), who is more of a stay-inside-and-read gal. Nessa encourages them to not be a complete hermit/homebody, and they often swim together. (i don't have any updated art of Jay, so i'll describe her instead. Jay is a quiet, introverted, somewhat socially awkward skeleton monster. she wears glasses. she also wears t-shirts, sweaters, sweatpants/casual pants, and the occasional skirt.)

happy opening, everyone! excited to introduce u to ryu chaeyun, the wolf pack skele and also professional pain in the patoots. more info will be under the cut, and i’ll be around for a while if you’d like to plot. discord is also available (and slightly preferred!)

please be warned that passive suicidal ideation is mentioned in the intro (marked w a *) & will be a general recurring theme with her character, so please proceed w caution, and do let me know if you need a sparknotes/would prefer to plot without that point!

graduated from the national university of idgafistan, with a doctorate's in idgafism and a minor’s in ijbolism. thats it, that’s all you need to know about her.

her life pre-apocalypse was pretty normal: grew up in a family of 3 with her dad and older brother. mom passed when she was young, and at mama's funeral, her grandma tells her she has shitty fate. she's literally 10 though and doesn't understand what gran's trying to say except she doesn't ever see the maternal side of her family ever again x

watched train to busan like right before the apocalypse started and decided she just wouldn't be built like gong yoo. did, and still does not have that much will to survive, but hey, she's still here!

same can't be said for her dad, who d*es in seoul qz because of a very mundane stroke. doesn't get his blood thinners on time... or at all, bc of the kdrt rationing it super strictly. her brother turns angry at the world, and somewhere in their 5 stages of grief, they make the move to the busan qz. his joining the fireflies is the natural next step for someone so full of anger towards the kdrt.

all the unprocessed grief really makes one a great member of the resistance, and he does well within the ranks of the fireflies. he goes on every mission he can, and chaeyun knows he's gone too. his body never comes back somewhere between the 10th and 20th mission. L + ratio + skill issue!

eyes turn to her, then, to carry on his legacy. problem is, she just... doesn't want to. she's happy chilling in the qz, being a silly little 21-year-old teenage girl.

a demented old lady accosts her randomly. the same shit's spouted, but this time w a twist! she's got shit astrological fate that kills the people around her. the lady's family pulls her away and apologises for her, but it lingers in the back of chaeyun's mind.

* she entertains the idea a little more than she should, and thinks everyone around her in the qz might die. has nothing more to lose (besides a delusionship over someone who barely looks her way) and if she does something useful in div4, then maybe she deserves to live.

sorry 2 everyone on the mission, 'cause she's in her terrible twos and so goddamn annoying. like, pretending to convulse and zombify annoying. pull a gun on her and she'll be like omg wow rude..... what did i ever do to u! if u can look past the chronic unseriousness then she's alright. just ur typical gen z-er.

her one strength is bouncing back from just about anything. like, she's been through. a lot. but everyday she wakes up and decides its a new day to choose violence <3

her dog is a malinois named potato (chip). better trained than her, and she loves that stupid dog so bad. classic case of tiny girl & big dog. potato sideeyes people a lot but also. is very excited and gets the zoomies 24/7 when he's not on duty. rolls over for belly rubs way 2 easy.

misc. chaeyun tingz: always has chocopies on hand. don't ask how or where she's getting them. u think she's finished the one box she's brought.. but she just keeps pulling them out. is her bag doraemon's? / very prone to nosebleeds. no reason why / keeps talking about fast food. misses mcdonald's ice cream so much. / hums under her breath. either chopin or 2016 kpop girl groups. what can she say, she's got range /

a couple plots i would like to have wld b found family.. of course. show & teach her that fate can be changed. we will all have these bitches become found family. / someone who knew her in seoul qz. can tell she's different now somehow... but can't quite put their finger on how (it's death babes x), though i'd love to brainstorm & fill any of ur wcs!
