idk if you know this already but in ignatz and sylvain’s B support conversation in three hopes, you learn it’s canon that rhea fakes her own death every so often, changes her appearance slightly and then goes back to being the archbishop (ignatz and sylvain are having a discussion about the meaning and origin of a painting sylvain owns)
here is the painting of rhea from 200 years ago
that is incredible, i love her so much and i want that painting in high res

Also I went back through Shamir’s and Catherine’s supports just to see what that anon is talking about and well...
If nothing else we can add this to the “Rhea is clearly not a racist or a xenophobic” and the “Rhea is clearly not executing non-believers” pile.

Prompts will be posted within the next week! In the meantime, here’s a ranking of my top 5 Rhea CGs and cutscene stills! I would have done top 10, but there’s not that many of these :(

I'm getting sick of a certain sect of the fandom trying to trivialize Rhea's trauma as "mommy issues". The woman not only had her mother, but almost her entire people/family get slaughtered and have their bones turned into weapons by a bunch of butthurt power hungry humans, and then had to live with lies in order to protect her last remaining people/family and not want any more bloodshed, said lies hid humanity's faults. Not to mention, there's something misogynistic about downplaying a woman's trauma as "mommy issues".
And the thing is, Rhea's "issues" actually manifest in pretty understandable ways! A lot of her political decisions really were born out of her being caught between two not-great options where she had to figure out which one was less not-great than the other. In the present, she's reluctant to dine in the company of the students and feels she doesn't belong, and she struggles to connect with people because she's had to bear the weight of keeping the Nabatean culture and people alive by herself for almost a thousand years without anyone knowing about it. She promulgated the Heroes' Relics as holy weapons because at least that way she could honor her people's memories. She wants Sothis back not just because she misses her mother, but because she truly believes it will set everything right, which isn't too far off from the average person who believes their parents can fix everything. Having layers like that is so much more interesting than just handwaving it all as "mommy issues".

Maybe I'm reading too much into things, but for being such a "stronk powerful wymyn" people ascribed Edelgard to, there's kinda an unfortunate implication of a woman staying with the people who abused her (TWSITD)
You’re definitely not reading to much into things. Edelgard is only a “strong, independent woman!!1!” if you completely disregard the fact that she’s completely ineffectual without Thales (a man), Hubert (another man), and Byleth (who can be male).
I mean she makes exactly one plan by herself (the bandit raid in the prologue) and it’s so ridiculously incompetent she almost manages to get herself killed. Then in Crimson Flower she spends five years doing fuck all because she just can’t do it without sensei uwu!!!
Everything else (Flayn’s kidnapping, the Western Church Rebellion, the raid on the holy tomb, Remire, Jeralt’s death and the subsequent trap, the second raid on the tombs, and finally the attack on Garreg Mach) were all orchestrated in part or in whole by Hubert or Thales. I mean I guess she could have helped, but little miss almost got herself murdered in the prologue really doesn’t seem like the kind of person Hubert is inviting to his strategy meetings.
Really I can’t think of a single accomplishment in this game that is just Edelgard’s. Or any other woman’s for that matter, aside from Rhea being a complete fucking badass and raising an entire army under her banner to fight Nemesis.

I noticed something common with portrayals of Edeleth, it's always framed to be 'pure love' and the peak of romance and affection in-game (not surprising). But I just feel like no one talks about Rhea's love enough, like the lengths she goes for her own family (reviving Sothis, putting herself in a vulnerable position so she can protect her family, fighting in a war that makes her relive her traumas so her peers can escape) as well as getting hit with NUKES to protect Byleth and the others.(1/2)
2/2 Honestly, Edelgard's 'good deeds' and her relationship with Byleth and other characters seem so shallow in comparison. Edeleth is basically just 'Edelgard cried for Byleth before they died :(' even when Edelgard does nothing but manipulate others and is egocentric and a majority of her supports are abusive and condescending. Yet with all of this, Rhea is seen as the 'crazy megalomaniac' who only cares for herself. There's more to it, but this is the worst reading of a character I've seen.
But see, all of the people Rhea loves don’t count because they aren’t the self-insert, and love doesn’t count if it’s not romantic love. Obviously.
I don’t really listen to the stan’s opinions on Rhea tbh. It’s all hypocritical bullshit.
“Oh Edelgard is great because ends justify the means and she’s making a better world so she can do whatever she wants and it’s okay!”
“Well Rhea manipulated history for a good reason (to protect her last remaining family) and stunted technological growth for a good reason (to stop the Agarthans from making more terrible weapons and/or humans from making terrible weapons and killing each other) which arguably made the world better.”
“BUT MANIPULATING HISTORY IS BAD AND EVIL AND NO ONE SHOULD EVER LIKE RHEA BECAUSE SHE DID EVIL THINGS!!!!!”
Like ooooo...kay... I see we aren’t going to be having a productive conversation here.
Also we all know the peak of love and affection in game is Dimidue. Stans can try to front with me on that, but I don’t see no touching emotional death scene for Edeleth.

Also the idea that Rhea deliberately kept Cyril illiterate is a bit stupid as well when the Faith of The Church of Seiros was founded on The Book of Seiros.
Similar to the growth of Christianity in Europe which saw many commoners start to learn to read so that they could read the bible and they now had access to the Clergy who were educated individuals who could teach the common folk how to read with the goal of them being able to read the scriptures (before this education was exclusively kept for the upper classes and the common folk didn't necessarily think they had a reason to "waste" time learning to read and write when they had farms to attend to, faith gave them a reason) I'd imagine it's in The Church of Seiros benefit to have a literate populace because the scripture is written.
If Rhea really wanted to influence Cyril into becoming a devout believer she would have 1. Probably had someone like Gilbert or Catherine or Alois, more active Believers, be in charge of him and his training and 2. She would have asked him to read the Book of Seiros and if she'd asked him to do that she'd have quickly figured out he can't read.
In regards to this post that I reblogged about Rhea and Cyril, I think it’s super fascinating that of all the people that Rhea could have chosen to give Cyril an apprenticeship under, she chose Shamir, the nonbeliever.
If Rhea had really wanted to indoctrinate Cyril, she could have easily asked one of the more devout believers to train him and teach him everything about the faith. But she didn’t. She told Cyril that he doesn’t have to take an interest in it unless he feels like it, and he’s being taught by the one person that doesn’t believe in the faith unlike the majority of the Knights of Seiros.

Oh thank God that I found another Rhea fan blog. Makes me feel not so alone that there’s more than me and my friend who like the dragon pope waifu over the tyrant edgelord waifu. I was almost ready to tear my hair out the next time someone called me “homophobic” when I expressed that I Rhea and Dimitri over Her Highness. Hey dumb butts, how can I be homophobic if I’m bloody bi?! Apologies, that salt came out. Anyway, blessings of Seiros be upon you fellow Rhea fan! Cheerio.
All Rhea fans are welcome here. And the homophobic lable never made sense to me, I know more queer people who like Rhea than I do straight people honestly
