For the beer-drinking woman
Earlier this year, an Elite Daily contributor posted an article entitled “There Are 2 Types of Women: Red Wine Drinkers and White Wine Drinkers.”  That post can be found here.  In response to that, Kate Bartolotta wrote “For The Girls Who Drink Whiskey” for HuffPost, which can be found here.
Ms. Bartolotta’s response made me think, as a woman whose drink of choice is beer, how would I be classified?  While the point of her response was clearly that women are not somehow bound to a certain personality simply because of their favorite alcohol, it was still fun to think about.  What started as a silly way to pass time on the Green Line turned into the following piece.  Enjoy!
For the beer-drinking woman
Beer-drinking women, what a breed.
We laugh too loud, swear too much, love too deeply.  We will scream at the TV in protest when the ref makes a bad call and we’ll cry in our PJs when the sad parts in movies surprise us.  We’re full of contradictions.
We listen to 70s rock with the windows down and belt the words with abandon. We’ll work hard, get messy; our nail polish is always chipped.  A woman who drinks beer can never tell you exactly what she wants, but she doesn’t settle.  Stubborn?  We don’t see it that way.
A beer-drinking woman is the unexpected philosopher, hiding an ocean of thoughts and observations behind her care-free exterior.  Like the beer we drink, our outward bubbliness is often followed by a wave of complexity.  A beer- drinking woman can go from silly to serious and back in the blink of an eye.  We will look into your heart and will make you feel that you’re exactly where you are meant to be.
Beer-drinking women are clumsy, yet endearing.  We try our darndest to keep it together, yet realize some things are meant to fall apart.  A beer-drinking woman eats cold pizza for breakfast and pancakes for dinner, just because.
Women who drink beer are competitive.  We aren’t afraid to jump in and show men a thing or two about what it means to “play like a girl.”  A beer-drinking woman dances like no one is watching, secretly hoping that people are.  We both crave and hate attention.
A beer-drinking woman knows it’s not about the things you have but about the life you lead and the company you keep.  We think change is scary.  Beer-drinking women truly believe that a good cry, a better laugh, and a pint of brew can fix most of life’s problems.  We’re nostalgic, we’re sentimental, we apologize too much.
Beer-drinking women look for common ground.  We make friends with anyone, especially with a  pint in hand.  We crave summer nights at baseball games and winter nights by the fire.  We procrastinate like crazy and love to be hugged. Above all, a woman who drinks beer knows that life is meant to be celebrated.
