Vintage Guadeloupe Islands French West Indies Caribbean Unofficial National Flag Travel Shield Silver Plated Collectible Demitasse Spoon
Tumblr media
Wonderful, vintage silver demitasse spoon with the unofficial national flag of the beautiful country of Guadeloupe, “the pearl of the French Caribbean.” The enameled, travel shield flag on the rounded spoon is derived from the coat of arms of Guadeloupe’s capital, Basse-Terre and features a red field with a golden radiant sun representing the tropical climate and a green sugar cane plant for one of Guadeloupe’s main crops, beneath a narrow, blue stripe with golden yellow fleurs-de-lis for France. The flag was designed to promote the gorgeous, French West Indian island archipelago of over a dozen islands.

The spoon has an ornate, floral scroll design surrounding the “flag” and a scalloped edge with floral details on the base of the demitasse spoon. This terrific spoon shows minor signs of wear consistent with its age including on the enamel (please see photos), has a natural, undisturbed patina and will be a great addition to your collection or display case!

Vintage Guadeloupe Islands Sterling Silver Pendant with Necklace
Remarkable and striking pendant from “the pearl of the French Caribbean” in the Lesser Antilles, the country of Guadeloupe. This beautiful, French West Indian woman with a friendly face is skillfully balancing a basket of pineapple -- the symbol of hospitality --  on her head. She has a certain je ne sais quoi about her as she wears a stylish head kerchief or scarf, hoop earrings, necklace and a bracelet on her arm. The archipelago of Guadeloupe contains over a dozen islands, with five jewel islands, and is nicknamed, “The Land of Many Influences,” because of its rich, ethnic diversity and its multi-faceted identity. This delightful pendant boldly hangs on a 18-inch long rope chain necklace and is coated with a very light, natural, undisturbed patina. She will look absolutely stunning on any outfit you wear!

Happy New Year
I do not believe in waiting for my calendar to remind be to be thankful, kind or responsible and productive in general but with a little time in my hand right now I can reflect on some things that did change a great deal in the past year and some that did not, at all.
The changes were mostly in the professional department. After, long, years of working hard at being a successful unhappy worker I came to realize that achieving good productivity was not rewarding enough and bordering on self sabotage of my health and happiness 40 hours a week. More if we consider that I complained about it a great deal and often did not sleep well.
So after a semi well thought decision backed up with a Risky Business like "fuck it" attitude, I left the line of work I had been in for ten years with no other prospect in line. I also decided to change my growth direction from comparing my next job to the one I had before hoping it would be better, to visualizing what I actually wanted to do. My jewelry line was and is something I'm dedicated to but it will take a bit more time before I can make a steady income from it.
There was some sleepless nights and a couple of afternoons nearing the panic attack but I made it through and now am very happily engaged in one of the coolest companies in Austin.
That was a big change generated mostly by attitude, not courage, and a gut feeling that an itch must be scratched, desires must be fulfilled and time runs out too fast not to capture the proper amount of fun available.
What did not change is my dedication to my husband and my friends especially now that I feel emotionally more available. What did not change is my ability to adore and love new things and individuals. I still get smittened by movements, places, fragrances, the lines of a hand, the sound of a voice. I painfully let myself be overwhelmed by the extreme beauty and intensity until my heart just about jumps out of my chest.
I seek them all knowing fair well I will miss them as soon as they're gone. And I long for them too until they come back again in a few hours, in a few days, in a few months.
What has not changed is my compulsive abandonment to fall in love, to be seduced and tamed by something, someone gorgeous and fantastic.
There used to be a small spot under my rib cage, on the left side, that felt like tweezers were at work. The same spot now feels like a pink marshmallow. I don't even like pink, but it feels pink.
Happy New Year!

Inspiration
My main source of inspiration not only as a designer but as a human being are my travels. The first big one was coming to the states in 1996. I discovered Texas, humidity and Mexican food in one joyful shot and never let it go.
Since then I drove around Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona. I discovered Belize and Baja California. I went back home with new eyes and stronger loves. I revisited Paris with an acute sens of passion and the certainty that, as much as I love my country, I was never meant to live in it. And I just got started.
The traveling alone is not to blame for my inspiration and transformations. I'm an applied traveler and as such I research my destinations as much as possible before even buying the plane ticket. The history of the region and it's people starts weaving a tapestry in my mind that has not found disappointment to this day. Everything from CIA reports (requested by my husband), to the topography, language and traditions are looked up with avid curiosity. I do not tire to discover something new about humanity and in the process, something new about myself.
This is what my jewelry represents today. A travel through regions, countries and my heart. A stubborn mind and fiery heart inherited from my Spanish grandfather. A stand, at last, to be ready to do the inevitable. To create. To show the world through stones and thread the colors of my heart.
