#marchmeetthemaker2020 Day 7 prompt - love to make No surprise here. I love, love to knit lace, intriguing, complex lace. Don't get me wrong - there is very little about Knitting that I dislike - but lace can enthrall me. The shapes and drapes of the patterns. The way the yarn choices influence the final effect of the patterns, and lately the way gradient yarns can be shaped to highlight everything else. @freiafibers shawl balls are my latest obsession. If I add beads? Who am I kidding? 😂 When I add beads, what will that do to the drape of the fabric? Do I want shimmer and movement or do I want bling 😍? Or do I want it all? If I work with undyed fibres how will I paint them for greatest effect? Which fibres take the dyes the best - I love mohair and silk blends the best for this technique - the dyes move beautifully through the fibre, bit not so fast that the obscure the shapes I am highlighting. Both silk and mohair take colours so vividly so the colours are clear and intense. Wool takes dyes so well that shapes blur too quickly,. The effect is different and I choose the stitch patterns according. Patterns done in wool are reminiscent of water colour paintings, softer with gentler lines of patterning. I knit lace for me. I find the pattern complexities soothing and completely engrossing. Every year I try to paint 🎨 some of my own lace knitting. It started quite a few years ago with the Nightfall Fan by Deborah Robinson. It was a Piecework pattern, May/June 2008. Then I turned a Barbara Abbey collar pattern into a fan. It is free download from my Ravelry store. It is called Torchon Lace Collar Charts. I am thinking about this years project already!
