You learn something new everyday- The shuttles in the lace looms that carry the polyester yarn are different thicknesses, depending on the loom. The 14pt quality (14 vertical threads per inch) shuttle is much thinner than the 8pt quality (8 vertical threads per inch) shuttle. You can see here the difference in thicknesses. There are roughly 5050 shuttles in the 14point loom and 3456 in the 8point loom. Some of our weavers and technicians changing the yarn bobbins on the top spool board of one of our vintage looms, all 7680 of them! Luckily though they don’t always need changed at one time. Every morning and afternoon the spools are checked and changed where needed, the lace pattern and stitch density dictates how much yarn is used.
