do you have any 2nd or 3rd gen gg songs you think everyone should listen to? or what are some of your faves?
this is such a hard question lmao, because i grew up on second and third gen kpop. if any followers have recs, feel free to drop them as well.
for me, of course there's the big or moderately popular groups (kara, 2ne1, f(x), snsd, wonder girls, apink, girls day, sistar, miss a, brown eyed girls, 4minute, aoa, after school, t-ara, secret, etc etc)
in terms of groups that might be considered more obscure:
all of 9muses' discography, in particular glue, drama, and dolls (they were not that obscure but they didn't get a single win before disbanding so they still count as flops)
evol - get up, we are a bit different (ngl they were the original girl crush concept, like girl groups were not making music like this back then! they were totally ahead of their times)
stellar - sting, vibrato (they were totally exploited by their company and sold using sex appeal, but their music was great. they deserved all the success, but NOT under that management)
spica - you don't love me (the original vocal group. if you like m*mamoo, consider listening to spica instead)
fiestar - one more, you're pitiful
rainbow - A, black swan, cha cha (rainbow blaxx)
hello venus - wigglewiggle, stickysticky, i'm ill
dal shabet - be ambitious, joker
ladies code - hate you (they're regrettably known more for the deaths of rise and eunbi than for their music, but they really did make some bops)
kiss&cry - domino game (queens.... debuted w/ this incredible song and then disbanded immediately </3)
laboum - what about you (literally one of my favorite songs of all time)
secret - shy boy (I KNOW they were fairly successful and got a triple crown w/ this song but kpoppies these days don't know them???/)
BESTie - i need you
and this isn't even getting into any of the third gen proper girl groups i loved and lost 😭 (clc, pristin, wjsn, lovelyz), OR the discographies of any of the groups i listed in the big or moderately successful category above, but I think those songs would just be easier to find if you just look up collections of 2nd or 3rd gen girl group music.
other groups i remember but never rlly got into: glam (problematic but made some fun songs), tiny-g, sunnyhill, rania (dr feel good is still iconic), berrygood
tagging @neonunau because i feel like you'd appreciate the nostalgia hit lol

These songs lost in their original poll, and are here to compete again!
Please vote for which song you think is better! If you haven't already, make sure to listen to both songs under the read more before voting.
Propaganda is encouraged, but please do not be negative towards the other song in doing so. This is meant to be a fun tournament! If you write propaganda in the text of your reblog (rather than in the tags), I will likely reblog it!
Round 1 match 38 was difficult for voters, and deciding the winner was like a game of Russian Roulette! Red Velvet lost, but came back for a second round! Their luck turned around in round 2, when they won against 9Muses's Dolls!
Russian Roulette is Red Velvet's 3rd most viewed MV! Although this song is cute and bright, the unique MV shows the girls toying with danger. What an iconic bop!
Someone Like U voted in round 1 match 49, where Dalshabet won over Laboum's Aalow Aalow! However, many of U Cried after Round 2 when Dalshabet lost to Twice, so the song is back!
Someone Like U is an 80s pop inspired bop with funky instrumentals and a catchy chorus! This song is so much fun the whole way through.

What is your top 10 Girl Group songs playlist for now?
Oh man, are talking like all time top 10 from every girl group EVER? Nah bro that's way too fucking hard. Instead I'll just do my favorite songs from my favorite top 10 groups. This playlist will be purely favoritism and not whether I think a song is "objectively" better than another. Also after finishing, I spent WAYYY too long on this lol. Hope you enjoy.
Dreamcatcher has so many good options man. I feel like it's impossible to pick just one, so I'm just gonna go recency bias for the last DC song I listened to and say Fairytale. Off their latest album, and an absolute bop. Runner-ups: Tension, Chase Me, You And I, Boca, Whistle.
Apink also has an amazing catalogue that's hard to pick just one from. I REALLY love Nothing, but I think I have to say NoNoNo still because it's just so fricken iconic and the song that got me into Apink. Runner-ups: %%, Nothing, Heaven, Mr. Chu.
Gfriend, yet another amazing discography. I'm actually gonna go with one of their Japanese bsides, because I fucking love it and think it's severely underrated. Runner-ups: Mago, Wheel of the Year, Rough, Me Gustas Tu, Rainbow
Laboum unfortunately never capitalized on the resurgence of Fresh Adventure a few years ago, but they're seriously one of the best nugu groups ever imo. So many fantastic songs. Gonna go with Fireworks because it's an absolute bop and a great example of their more mature sound after transitioning from their original cute style. Runner-ups: Fresh Adventure, Satellite, Kiss Kiss, Two of Us, Hwi Hwi.
Berry Good, severely underrated group with a bunch of amazing tracks. I'm gonna go with Angel because it's the song that made me get into them and I love the climax of the song. Runner-ups: pretty much the entire Fantastic album and this fucking AMAZING ballad off of their final album.
SNSD, don't even have to say anything about their iconic discography. Gonna go with another Japanese track, because this is a list of favorites. Runner-ups: Run Devil Run, Mr. Mr, Oh, Gee, The Boys
Gugudan, god Jellyfish did you so dirty. Especially since if Not That Type was released a few years later when everyone else was doing girl crush stuff, it would have popped off. Runner-ups: Lovesick, The Boots, Do It, A Girl Like Me
Afterschool, you were already disbanded by the time I got into you, but I would have bought so many albums if I found you in time. Gonna go with Flashback because it's the first Afterschool song I heard and it slaps. Runner-ups: Bang, Shampoo, Ah, When I Fall
Girl's Day, same as Afterschool. I really regret not getting into them sooner. My lack of Girl's Day albums is something that hurts me. Expectation is a complete fucking bop. Runners-up: Something, Ring My Bell, Look At Me.
And then finally because you didn't specify kpop, I'm gonna go with PassCode Clouds Across The Moon because this song fucking SLAPS and it's honestly one of my favorite songs of all time, probably in my top 25. It's so fucking good, stan PassCode.
