Jack: *live with his own happy live after war*
Courtney: *Enters to Jack office with billions problems knowing that he will solve them in one day* Oh, hello honey! I missed you so much!
Jack: I can be happy seeing you, but not about the fact you bring something new, Shelly... And it's not good.

core memory is still. i listened to the l.a. noire soundtrack in full before i finished the game and when i got to the three songs i was like wow these are gorgeous. i cant wait to hear these in game and then getting to the end of the game and just being in shock and hearing the final lines of the game from herschel and jack and then hear (i always kill) the things i love kick up and then i just start sobbing but i had to cry quietly bc my sister was asleep in the room (it was 2am)
on the list of games i wish i could experience for the first tjme again l.a. noire is at the top of that list id give so mant things to experience that game for the first time again
bc there was fucking NOTHING like hearing
“Swine. You belittle his memory.”
“Elsa…”
“Get out of my way, Jack. You call yourself his friend?”
“Go to her, will you, Herschel?”
“You were never his friend, Jack.”
“I guess you're right. Hershel?”
“Yeah, Jack?”
“I was never his enemy.”
“I think he knew that, Jack.”
nothing fucking hit like this my god still some of my favorite quotes ever

Yknow i cant get over the ambiguous ending of L.A. Noire. What deal did Peterson broker with the DA and the police chief? How did Jack go from the LAPD's most wanted man and Cole and Herschel tantamount to fugitives for aiding him to being able to walk freely into a church and attend a funeral with the police chief right there? Why is Roy Earle of all people shaking Peterson's hand? What was WITH that eulogy clumsily trying to clear Cole's name when it's already too late?
Did Peterson bow to the corruption and give in to spare his own career? Did he do it to spare the lives of his investigator and the two arson detectives who got him this close to his goal? Was all that song and dance genuine, or a consolation prize tied up in a neat little bow and thrown to Peterson in exchange for his silence? Or, when all was said and done, did Peterson genuinely choose the same path of corruption he had spent so long trying to topple? And finally, was he really going after the Vice squad and the DA for their corruption because it was the right thing to do, or because it was the popular thing to do that would get him good press in an era beginning to skew more progressive in the wake of the world wars?
The dramatic irony of it all is that it doesn't really matter, does it? Cole is still dead, and he still made his own mistakes at the end of the day. The dark underbelly of police corruption in the LAPD goes on, no matter what the deal Peterson struck was or his reasons for doing it. It goes on no matter how many good cops you met throughout the game who genuinely want to help people, because when the system is that corrupt, no amount of good eggs can change the associations and connotations with the uniforms they wear.
And like a classic crime film in the era of the Hayes code, anybody who questions the authority of institutions like the police have to die at the end. Except back then, it was because Hayes believed that anybody who was anti-police was a criminal deserving of death, and in L.A. Noire, it's because when someone gets in too deep to the extent that Cole did, you either dismantle the system or the system kills you and parades your body around town as an example to others getting the same ideas as him.

Los Angeles, 1947. The city is on the cusp of change in this new post-war world, both positive and negative. In recent months, Detective Nicole Phelps has witnessed misogyny in the workplace, horrific femicide covered up by politicians, her brother's extramarital affair exposed, and dreams about Okinawa. Now, she is helping Cole's case by seeking assistance from Jack Kelso, a man she had longed to meet. Together, they hope to expose the corruption and greed of the city, but soon they'll expose their hearts to each other in unexpected ways...
I don’t know if there’s still any love for L.A. Noire 14 years after its release, but this game is still one of my favourites and I’ve been meaning to write up my fic after brewing this idea for years. Hope you like it!
