Since I probably am the only person that has absolutely no idea about the original Kasautii, the new promo for Kasautii 2.0 looks a bit like... Devdas on drugs? 😂 But, I’ma watch, I’ma watch and see if Erica and Parth (the two people whose voice modulation kinda irks me for some reason, anybody else?) can win me over. Also, let’s see how long it’s going to take for y’all on here to get into an in-depth analysis of the old and new version and I’m just going to be like

Hello! Just wanted to let you know that I am ALSO trash and completely willing to give in to Kasauti 2.0. Earlier I was just going to check it out because I like Erica (everything except the way she says Auntyji) but ever since I've read that Parth is Anurag, I'm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like I'll have to be obsessed with it now. He's definitely not the dude in the promo though. Also, I kinda feel bad for both of them because an Ekta show means 7-8 years of fuckery, minimum.

Hi five to being co-passengers of this trash boat. Although I stopped watching original KZK quite early! Maybe sometime after first leap and I am quite sceptical this time around as well!! But I quite liked the show in its initial days (might have had a tiny crush on Cezanne Khan back in the days as well). So no harm in watching this one either.

OMG I get you about Erica’s Auntyji…hahahaha. I am keeping my fingers crossed about Parth Samthaan being Anurag. I am lowkey annoyed with Ekta that she is keeping this as suspense just to increase the hype!! I can’t believe the news till the time there is an official announcement. Considering there has been bit of a bad blood b/w Ekta and Parth in the past. And he just doesn’t seem the kind of guy who would act in a daily soap for 4-5 years straight!! But who knows?!!

I saw this video where Jen W & Shweta T met & were basically showering each other with compliments (ST was like mere saare bachche mera naam roshan kar rahi hai) & I was just thinking, will KZK 2.0 give that same iconic cast feel? Do you think the cast of 2.0 will be as awesome in the show as the last cast? Which mistakes will Kekta rectify & which tropes will she leave out? And finally, what will happen to the grossest injustices put out by the OG show?

I think it’s nearly impossible for them to match up to the original. The image of that show itself, it’s just so larger than life and iconic, that living up to it just seems so unlikely. As much as they say ‘oh ho this is a new take on it and we’re not trying to replicate the original’, there will always be comparisons. Aur nostalgia se kaun jeet paaya hai? A generation who’ve never seen the original may enjoy it, I guess; but even so, I don’t see it being as legendary or lasting as long as the original.

As for the cast… It’s okaaaaaaay. As of now, I don’t feel particularly wowed by it, esp. the main two. Let’s see if they’re able to create the magic onscreen. I’m mostly just excited to see how they redo Komolika’s character. Apparently Hina isn’t playing her anymore and it’s going to be Krystle D’souza instead? And Ekta’s like the character’s going to be “less OTT”. Which booooooo!!!!!!!!! The whole point of Komolika was how hilariously OTT she was in every single aspect of her life!!?!?!??!! How you gonna take the most iconic character of the show (of a generation!!!!!!) and just make it all pheeka? Oh also, reports have Barun Sobti in the runningfor Bajaj? Knowing him and his disdain for the daily soap grind though… I’ll believe it when I see it.

Sidenote re: cast - I mean, Shweta and Cezzane were younger than Erica/Parth are right now when they started the show, but they still seemed apt for their parts when the leaps took place, there was a certain maturity to them; they never looked out of place. I reallllllllly don’t see that with Erica and Parth. Maximum they can play it till the first 8 year leap (that too, I just see that maturity within Erica; Parth playing a character older than mid-20s is just inconceivable to me.) Besides, are actors these days even willing for leaps beyond a few years? Doesn’t seem like anyone is ready for aging their characters beyond early to mid 30s.

A major thing I’m thinking of is how the nature of the audience and fandom has changed just so drastically from the times of the original show. Those were simpler times, when the audience was super involved in the watching of show, but they rolled with and accepted the creative decisions the shows made. In the current scenario, I can’t and don't even want to imagine what crazyass fanwars will erupt between the Anurag fans v/s the Bajaj fans. (Especially if Bajaj is played by Sobti.) Plus with how vocal and vehement fandom is these days, how much access they have to the cast and crew thanks to social media, and how makers feel pressured to alter the course of the show as per their demands… I don’t even know man. Bhagwaan hi sab ko shakti de. Dekhne waalon ko bhi, banaane waalon ko bhi.

Tropes and mistakes… Lol aaj ke zamaane mein I don’t think Anurag ki chaar chaar shaadiyaan will fly. Fandom bagaawat kar degi. I don’t think they’ll do the leap after leap either. I really don’t see them reaching the grown up Sneha/Prem/Mukti generation, let alone the P2/Saksham/Nihaal generation. Aur woh puraane ghisse pitte memory loss aur coma waale tropes naa hi ho toh behtar.

Sis you know the grossest injustice of that show was Prem/Mukti ka satyaanaash. If show doesn’t reach that phase itself, then…  🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ Actually, in a way, sadist that I am, I’m hoping to see this show inflict its own new injustices on a whole new generation, taaki unhe bhi toh pata ho, what it’s like, living with an unfulfilled ship for the rest of their life! 😆😆😆

(Fuck, I just had a brainwave: you know who they SHOULD pick to play Bajaj? KVB! He would totally do justice to the role, and it would be something different for him too; AFAIK, he hasn’t played a mature role like that ever. Also it’d be such a funnnnnnnnnnn throwback! Oh man Ekta, make it happen!)

I did! And yes, same!!!!!! I thought Erica looked really nice and she has that *spark*, but I find Parth really meh. Something about him just does notttttttttt appeal to me, which is why I don’t think I’ll be watching the show, like commitedly. At least till the whole Bajaj angle comes in (depending on who’s playing him.)

Overall opinion of promo: good production values and all, but underwhelming. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

Naaah. I’ll check it out sporadically to see how they do the Komolika intro and stuff (lbr, that character is the real draw of the show) but I’m not really “feeling” the show overall, to watch it regularly. Maybe after the Bajaj angle comes in (if he’s played by someone interesting like Sobti…) 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

I think she’ll try to innovate/modernize the circumstances and situations and characters, but story toh laaaargely wohi rehni hai.

Lol, the original show really is one those things that if you go back and watch it now, it’s quite dated and seems kinda OTT and unrefined, but the nostalgia, man. Nothing like it. I still remember impatiently waiting for it to air every evening, and fighting my dad for the remote (who would disgruntledly give it up, but then proceed to do a running commentary on everything that was wrong with it. OMFG HE WAS THE OG TELLYWOODTRASH!!!!!!!) More than the content of the show itself, it was the whole ~experience of watching it at the time it came out.

Honestly, I don’t know if I’ll watch the new show on the long-term, because I don’t think I’ll be able to stop comparing it to the original to enjoy this version for what it is. But I’ll certainly be checking it out, and maybe do a lb/impressions post if I have anything worthwhile to say. :)
