You know, I’ve always thought that the Herald’s Rest sign was incredibly pretentious and you know what? So does my Inquisitor and I’m sure Sera agrees. Clearly, she and Kyne would have defaced it in the best way the two elves know how (well, second best, short of outright burning it or covering it angry wasps).

It's been a while since I've talked about any of my da babies. Guess one fact about my Lavellan siblings is that they both have the same sense of humour. When Kyne and Sera go around pranking everyone, Akinlana has to really try to compose himself, even laughing when he's the one being pranked. He also, may or may not have been a silent accomplice in some. What amuses your characters? Or what's their favourite joke and/or prank?

Now, Sera became something like a little sister to Adam. A very persuasive little sister who often talked him into getting up to mischief with her, because her strategy to accuse him of being no fun proved to be pretty effective. While he willingly lets her drag him into her shenanigans, he tries to keep her from going too over the top and doing anything that would create any unneeded tension between Inquisition members. But somebody getting a pie in the face sometimes is pretty funny, even if that person might be him sometimes.

It’s also probably easier to list what he’s not amused by. Jokes that are terrible at least get an amused little snort just because of how terrible they are. Silly observations the others make in the field also get their own snirts. Adam’s pretty easy.

You referred to everyone in that ask, so I’ll give a rundown of the others: The girls aren’t quite so easily amused as our Lord Inquisitor here, but Shaelyn can be caught off guard by particularly clever puns and wordplay, and Thergwen can totally lose it at a well-timed (usually raunchy) joke here and there.

Part of why Jarath’s token animal is the jackal is because of their mythological role as tricksters, but he’s actually not much of a prankster himself. He’s just also easily amused and never lets a potentially funny comment go to waste. Even if he’s the only one who finds it funny.

In all of their tales, what's one rumour of the Warden, Champion and Inquisitor that just isn't true and is so far-fetched that they cannot believe how people can even think it's true?

Ninimel is very bitter about the fact that human’s have this idea in their heads that he was somehow sent by their Maker and that he had wanted to save humans. It seems silly to most people to be against this kinda rumour but he does not like that humans get this idea that he gives a shit about them.

Hawke can’t really think of anything people believe that’s actually 100% true - most of it is based off of Varric’s book which makes everything seem too grand. Some of the things that do get under his skin is people supposing that Spencer was a blood mage and deserved what happened to him - it’s the only rumour he actively corrected whenever he heard it.

Kyne can’t believe that people depict her as some mighty warrior and valiant leader. Mostly the stories that went about her speaking in some mighty voice or standing strong before the enemy because she never saw herself like that. Her voice was Akinlana and her strength was her friends. None of these things were done alone and it astounded her that people would so readily dismiss the truth.

This was it, the push for the temple. There were so many RedTemplars between them and the front gates. She didn’t want to think about whatwould happen if they didn’t reach it fast enough. She didn’t want to think aboutCorypheus getting his hands on whatever knowledge was contained within thatplace. She didn’t want to think about the world crashing down around them aftereverything they had fought for. She–

A heavy hand fell on her shoulder, a comforting weight. Witha shuddering sigh she places her gloved hand on it, feeling the fingers shiftto lace with hers. Slowly she leaned into her Commander’s form, nestling herface in his feathers. His scent bled through her and she stopped gripping herstaff so tight. If he were at her side she would be alright.

“It’s time…” spoke his voice, rumbling quietly from hishelmet. “Stay by my side and I’ll see you through…”

Her eye gazed up at him, looking so fearsome in his armour.She offered a smile. “As you say commander.” Up on her tiptoes he stood andkissed the chin of the helmet.

Cullen offered a smile that wasn’t as reassuring butsqueezed her hand. He would see her through this, she would make it. She hadto. Standing straight he tested the sword in his hand and righted his shield inthe other. At his side there was a sing of energy as she drew her blade fromthe Fade itself, staff in her off hand.

Templar and mage, leading an army of faithful, and togetherthey charged.

The Red Templars met their steel like rocks to a wave. Theyhad no sense of preservation and threw themselves to the fray. A wall ofshields would fall only for another to rise. Steel crashed loud against steel.Magic sang from the back and arrows flew true. Just as waves on rocks they woretheir way through the stone towards the shores.

At the front the mage and her templar. They fought as one,dancing together. Sunlight broke against their armour, blinding white againstthe sea of red. Together they pressed the line, never getting too confident but never holding back. Each stone they met and conquered, and theydared not look back to see those that had fallen.

As the fight drew on, as they struggled to keep the pacethrough the water and mud and muggy heat, they thought to their future andremembered the past. They remembered those that gave their lives - the onesthey honoured in victory. They looked ahead to the ones still alive and yet tolive - the ones they were fighting for. Then they looked to each other - theones that made it worth it all.

There was a moment of reprieve some time into the onslaught.They paused and caught their breath. His heavy hand found hers and held ittight. He offered a smile through the pain that coursed through him from theinjuries he sustained. She reached up into the maw of the lion and touched hischeek, noting how warm it felt against her hand, chilled by the Fade.

Then an arrow, it drove deep in hisshoulder, right between the plates. The commander staggered back as red flashedbeside her. Before either had a chance, red lyrium driven through his chest.There was a scream on her lips, fire bursting from her fingertips as theforsaken beast turned. Red poured through the cracked breastplate. Hestaggered and fell. She rushed to him, tears on her cheeks as he failed tocatch his breath, red bubbling up in his mouth. She took him in her arms andthrew away his helm.

Templars stalked out from the shadows of the underbrush. Shewatched his eyes, terrified and brimmed with tears, tried and tried to focus onher. Then they drooped a little, his head falling back. Her hand on his chest,glowing bright to seal the wound.

Not fast enough.

“No, no, no, please Cullen no- vhenan please- I know ithurts but please- please you have to- you have to stay awake! Please, pleaseno! Ma vhenan- don’t go! You said you’d stay–”

Not enough.

His lips moved, his eyes shifted, yet the words he wantedwere lost in the red. She begged. She pleaded. Yet his eyes still faded. Shescreamed. He could no longer hear her. She screamed. He was heavy in her arms.She heard the steps, could hear the song around her. He still felt warm. Heranger rose, so did the blood. His voice in her mind, ‘Stay by my side and I’llsee you through’. Swirls of red and the footsteps hesitated. She held himcloser, hoping beyond hope she was wrong.

She screamed.

For Any - if they were to be a different race, which race would they be and how would it change who they are as a person?

Ninimel would probably be a human. If he had been born human he likely would have remained the same brash little shit however it would unlikely that he would have any pride in his town or city like he has pride in his Dalish clan. This would lead him to being even more reckless, having nothing to worry about shaming. In all he would have gotten himself in with all the worst groups, probably done well within said and would have gotten himself killed at a young age due to his sharp tongue. If he wasn’t killed perhaps he would have still become a Warden - but for the sake of everyone maybe that wouldn’t be the best idea...

Kyne and Akinlana I actually might have made them qunari actually. With a lot of their life spent in hiding from anyone that might hunt down two mage qunari, they would have been far more apprehensive around anyone else. She would still want to be free but less confident in obtaining that. The thought of what would be done to her and her brother if they were found would scare her away from standing out too much. If she would still become Inquisitor she would be a lot less of the careless wonder and more so dependant and obedient to the wishes of her advisors. Akinlana on the other hand would remain mostly the same, if not more protective and standoff-ish. Both would be supremely suspicious of the Iron Bull until he proved himself not to be after them. Kyne likely would not have fallen for anyone, far too focused on finally being able to discover herself to worry about it. Akinlana may have still fallen for Dorian’s wit and charm.

What would happen if any of your OCs found a baby, all alone and wrapped in a soft clothe, deep in a forest one day while scouting? Who would take it in, who would find it a home, who would ignore it, who would put it out of it's misery?

Ninimel would likely debate for a moment whether saving it was really worth it - but would cave and take the babe back to his Clan or a nearby village. The Clan would take the child in and care for it without argument and he would leave the babe at the Chantry steps if he were in a village.

Danica would take the babe up immediately - getting mad at anyone who protested. She would take the child to a nearby Chantry for them to take in. She would probably send the occasional letter to check in on the child but she would be discrete. If the child survived the Blight, when Danica becomes queen she would likely adopt the child - giving the kingdom the heir they would be expecting without all the... hassle.

Faenil would quietly take the child into her arms and bring her back to camp. She would be surprisingly motherly towards the babe, cradling it close and making sure it was warm. It’s unlikely she would put the little one down for anything - even to fight - so she would opt out of any missions for a time. When they reached a village or town she would give the child to the Chantry, knowing they would be safer there. Sometime after - when the Blight is over - Faenil would visit the Chantry to see the child and would likely check up on her for the rest of her life but never say much.

Thane wouldn’t know what to do with the baby. There had been children at the Circle but never a babe. He would probably carry the little bundle back to camp awkwardly and entirely improper - allowing anyone else to take the child away from him. Yet he would likely already be attached to the little thing and would promise to care for them if they ever needed him. Again they would likely leave the child at a Chantry and after the Blight he would go back to see them. When they’re old enough he would ask to take them with him - he hoped Morrigan wouldn’t mind when she returned.

Garrett would immediately start screaming internally. He wasn’t good with babies, he never liked babies, and now he found one in the middle of nowhere. He would take the little one back to the others and insist that someone take it before he fucked up. He wouldn’t deny that the little beast was cute, though he would have no intention of being involved in raising them. Yet, if the child remained with the group even after everything, he would most definitely get attached and would want to be the best uncle ever for it - much to the dismay of whomever was raising them (probably a whole group thing - not much better)

Spencer upon finding the child would be horrified. To think that someone would leave the child out on their own like that? He would almost immediately decide that he was going to keep the babe and care for it better than whomever had them before. It would be unlikely that anyone would convince him otherwise. 

Kyne would stare at the thing for a considerable amount of time before just flat out calling for someone from camp. If they joined her she would point at the little bundle and insist that they do something with it. If they didn’t she would reluctantly pick up the bundle and bring it to camp, dropping it with the first person who asked what it was. She would have little interest in the little thing, even if it remained with them. If Cullen took a liking to the child she would just sigh and tell him that it wasn’t going to be her job to take care of it and that maybe it would finally get him away from the trebuchets.

Akinlana having been the one to raise Kyne, he would take the child into his arms and gently rock it as he walked back to camp. He would insist on caring for it even with all his other duties as he felt obligated as the one whom found it. After the death of his clan it would become even more important to take care of the child, insisting that they would be the one to carry on the clan, no matter the race of the child. Dorian would likely have no troubles with the child, enjoying seeing this softer side of Akin.

Aviana wouldn’t have been stopped by anything to collect the child in his arms and bring them back to Skyhold. He would ask if one of the mothers there would help him in caring for them, as he had little experience with a babe. The child would already be part of his family and would introduce them to Ryssel as their new little sibling - she would likely be ecstatic.

Elhael one, would question why he was out scouting this was a bad idea and two, would wonder what he was meant to do if he came across a small child. He knew how to deal with bandits or beasts but a little babe? Not wanting to harm the little thing he would sit next to it and gently touch it’s forehead and cheek, trying to calm it down if it was crying. If nothing was working he would awkwardly try to take it in his arms to hush it, feeling very uncomfortable but not wanting it to be in any distress. If he felt secure enough he’d take it back to the camp, if not he would wait there until someone got worried and came for him. After handing off the child he would be curious to learn how to properly care for it and would sit and listen to any mother who would teach him. He would see this as more of a learning opportunity than actually getting attached to the child.

Damiana one, would also question why she was scouting and two, would just stand for a long time, wondering what she was meant to do with the little thing. She would be greatly tempted to just leave it as it was none of her business but she knew that Cole would know and get mad at her. So she would begrudgingly take the child up and back to Skyhold, passing it off at the first opportunity. “You were going to leave it... but you didn’t...” Cole would tell her later. “I knew you wouldn’t be happy if I had... that’s all,” she would insist and would try to ignore his knowing smile.

Asaz would be the most likely to put it out of it’s misery. There was little place in the world for a little one to grow happy - especially not in the Inquisition. If the child seemed at all sickly she would give it the mercy of death and a proper burial/cremation/etc. If the child seemed healthy she would be inclined to bring it to Skyhold if only to tease Damiana by insisting that they would adopt it. This was a joke of course and she would pass it off to the nearest willing mother and not pay it any mind after.

BONUS

Daiza’al in the moment it would be panic - especially if the babe was crying. He had never dealt with such a small being before and was terrified he’d hurt it somehow. After managing to collect it safely in his arms he would rush back to camp, immediately looking for someone to take it before he harmed it. And then would begin the hovering. He would become very attentive, both actively trying to figure out how to care for a child - for future reference perhaps? - as well as making sure that it was safe. It would be the only thing he would talk about for weeks, telling any of the companions who might listen all the cute things the little one had done. In the end, if he did not take the child as his own, he would at least insist on being the silly uncle that got to spend time with them.

Hawke - Warden - Inquisitor: How do each of them feel with their influence on others, how do they handle the sudden "power" they have, and IF they were to become corrupted with power, who's the worst and what will they do?

Garrett Hawke: Hawke isn’t opposed to the influence he has though it can be daunting when he thinks about it too much. Most of the time he doesn’t even realize what he’s causing - the quiet rebellion his actions are stirring - because to him he’s just doing what he thinks is right and if people follow the more the merrier. He doesn’t want the power nor does he do anything with it for a very long time - until the Templars take his brother... then he wields it like a blade. If he were to be corrupted the worst thing he would do is have every templar locked away or killed unless they could prove they had not harmed a mage. Even then he would cut them off from their lyrium, not really caring if they went mad. He would be leading the mage rebellion - and would probably succumb to the temptation of a Rage demon sadly...

Warden Ninimel: All he really ever cared about was helping his clan, so his power over most other people was neglected unless it benefited that cause. Having humans praise him for his deeds meant nothing because they would still call servants ‘knife-ear’. If he were to be corrupted? Well... he would not likely have it for long as he would probably start using his influence to kill a lot of people and his friends wouldn’t likely allow it to continue long.

Inquisitor Lavellan: It’s terrifying. She’s never had this kind of responsibility before and she doesn’t like it because now there are lives on the line and failure means blood on her hands. If it weren’t for her brother the Inquisition would likely have been a much different beast, she is not as analytical as he is and far more prone to acting on her emotions.If she were to be corrupted by her power? The Chantry would be the first thing gone and anyone in the Inquisition that opposed her would be cast out. People would learn to fear her - who wouldn’t be afraid of a mage who could literally tear the sky to shreds and fill the world with demons? She would claim most Chantries for the Creators and build a force to be reckoned with. While she personally would not order a town to be slaughtered, she couldn’t help it if some of her followers got rowdy.

(If you can’t guess Kyne would probably be the worst...)

For all of the sibling pairs; out of them both, which sibling is the one who can get away with causing trouble, and which one is ALWAYS in trouble?

Corvus & Ninimel Mahariel: Corvus can always get away with causing trouble because no one believes he could have been the one to do it - he’s to proper (but he totally did it). Ninimel is always in trouble because he is trouble.

Spencer & Garrett Hawke: Is this even a question? Garrett being in trouble is like saying water is wet. Spencer just has to smile and most people forgive him (so long as they don’t know he’s a mage which he does well to hide)

Kyne & Akinlana Lavellan: Kyne can usually get away with causing trouble so long as she’s not caught by Akin, Cass or Josephine. Akinlana never usually causes trouble because it’s bothersome to deal with.

If your OCs didn't have their canon relationships, who would be the runner ups for them? (IE the second choice if your romance didn't work out! Can be OC/OC or OC/Canon!)

Ninimel would probably have either died killing the archdemon because he had little reason to look for an alternative, or if he didn’t die he would have got back to his clan and likely died alone from the Blight years later as there wasn’t much else for him to do. He never had an interest in anyone else.

Faenil would have just gone back home to her father and probably married whomever was chosen for her. She never really had an interest in anyone.

Danica wouldn’t want to marry anyone - she would likely become a high-ranking officer in the army or a royal guard for King Alistair.Thane would have probably went and protected free mages and likely would have fallen in love with one sooner or later. Hopefully they would make it through and would probably have kids.

Hawke would have probably gone with Isabela. While the relationship wouldn’t have necessarily been as much about love, it would be passionate and fun - more along the lines of friends with benefits that just happened to be married.Spencer may have fallen for Merrill - or Fenris if his brother wasn’t with him. If Merrill he would have enjoyed her kindness and gifted it in return, always giving her support and acceptance no matter her decisions. If Fenris he would have taken care of the elf no matter the protests, always giving him understanding and knowing when it was important to be quiet. Fenris would likely have become very protective of him, seeing as the boy didn’t like fighting, and Spencer would have fallen for him.Kyne has a passing fancy for Bull, so maybe him? She does find his stature and build rather... enticing. They would probably tell a lot of really bad jokes and she would insist on being carried all the time and he would be the best to catch her while she climbed down from wherever. Akin probably wouldn’t mind because Bull has given him no reason to distrust him or think he’d hurt her. She also likes hanging out with the chargers. Akinlana would probably have had an interest in Josephine, and they spend enough time together that maybe he would fall for her, though unlikely. It would be more likely that he would work closely with Leliana when she became Divine, becoming not only a voice for elves but mages as well and it would keep him too busy to find anyone - if he didn’t die from the Blight (which I had forgotten he had gotten)Aviana in honesty? He may have developed an interest in Bull or Dorian. Dorian because he would have probably just wanted to help the man and the flirting would make him blush like a cherry and Dorian would probably be able to help Ryssel with her magic. Bull because those muscles... and he’s kind and warm and his jokes are hilarious but always leave him feeling a little dirty and he likes it - Ryssel really likes riding on Bull’s shoulders or ‘sparing’ with him. Damiana probably would be dead or made tranquil after being captured by the templars if Asaz didn’t save her. If Asaz did save her but they didn’t develop anything she probably would have left before they joined the Inquisition to be on her own again. If that didn’t happen then she probably would have taken an interest in Blackwall, with how gentlemanly he is and probably would have scolded him after the whole trial thing - not for his past but for the fact that he thought she would just be fine with him up and disappearing on her.Asaz might have fallen for Sera - would have had an interest in Cassandra but by game canon she wouldn’t get anywhere. Sera would have been enough to keep Asaz’s life interesting and they would probably cause a lot of trouble for everyone involved.

Number 2 for the micro story

Now this was a mistake to outdo all previous. How she managed to get herself here was simply an astounding level of shortsightedness. Just climb to the top of the tallest tower, sounded perfectly reasonable, she’d climbed so many things before. It was the getting down part that had eluded her.

(aka. When Kyne decided to climb up one of the towers in Skyhold before anyone knew she wouldn’t be hurt by jumping off it.)
