QUERY CAPS HOME CAREER WITH WALK-OFF HOME RUN, HITS RECORD
Source: https://gouvu.com/news/2021/5/8/softball-query-caps-home-career-with-walk-off-home-run-hits-record.aspx
OREM, Utah — Senior Basia Query delivered a walk-off, two-run home run to lead Utah Valley to a series sweep of Tarleton with a 9-1 win in five innings on Saturday afternoon. Query, in the final home plate appearance of her career, also became the program's career hit leader, with the 202nd of her career. The Wolverines (23-26, 8-10) won both ends of Saturday's doubleheader, which included a 10-8 decision earlier in the day. In that game, Query was 3-for-3 with three RBIs. The game-ending home run in game two also extended her hitting streak to 10 games. "These five years have meant everything. Utah Valley has been the greatest home away from home. I've learned so many things: how to better myself through the coaching changes and learn from each of them, how to be there for my teammates, and to learn to become a leader," Query said. "I've put everything into softball. It's been my life and I'm going to miss it so much. I'm proud of myself, proud of my teammates and thankful for my coaches and my family." In game one, Tarleton (17-36, 5-12) scored three quick runs with both Georgia Capell and Morgan Medford driving in runs with first-inning doubles. Query got one of those runs back with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning, scoring Linnah Rebolledo. Rebolledo later tied the game in the third with a no-doubt home run, her eighth of the season. The Texans added a run in the fifth on a RBI base hit off the bat of Hallie Saintignan, but Utah Valley responded with five in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-4 lead. After Jade Miller doubled, Rebolledo and Rien Milliken both walked to load the bases. Query then doubled past third to give the Wolverines a 5-4 lead. Kyla Hardy later drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run while Madison Carr and Emery Nielson also drove in runs in the fifth. UVU took advantage of four walks and an error in the inning. Tarleton scored a single run in the sixth before Siena Sandoval hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning for what turned out to be two big insurance runs. The Texans got a two-out, three-run home run from pinch-hitter Alexis Hoang to make 10-8, but Devyn Cretz got a pop out to Hardy at second to end it and earn her fourth save of the season. Katie Zuniga earned the win in the circle, lasting 5.2 innings and allowed four earned runs while striking out two without allowing a walk. The Texans finished with 12 hits in the game, three coming from Bailee Riggs. In addition to Query's three hits, Miller and Rebolledo both had two-hit games, with Rebolledo going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. She scored eight runs in the series. The Wolverines trailed 1-0 in the third inning of game two before putting up another crooked number with a seven-run third to take control of the game. Peyton Prigge singled and then scored when Carr tripled her home. Nielson followed with a walk and Miller drove in Carr with an infield single. Later in the third, Kyla Hardy put an exclamation point on the inning with grand slam right down the line in left. In the fifth, Rebolledo led off with a walk before Query delivered her sixth home run of the season — and 21st of her career — to give UVU its first series sweep in WAC play this season. Brooke Carter struck out seven and allowed just one run on three hits in earning the complete game win. For Tarleton, Medford had the lone RBI on a third inning double. Seven players were honored following the game. In addition to Cretz, Miller, Milliken, Query, and Sandoval, Jordan Adams and Kaycie Jensen were also recognized in a postgame ceremony. Utah Valley will be either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed in next week's WAC Softball Tournament, which begins Thursday in Seattle. The tournament bracket will be released later on Saturday afternoon.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Utah Valley's Rien Milliken singled through the left side. Kyla Hardy then doubled to left center to score Milliken for the Wolverines' first run of the game, cutting the SU lead to 6-1. The Redhawks added one more run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Carley Nance, scoring Hannah Sasaki. Utah Valley was unable to score in the bottom half of the inning as the Redhawks secured the 7-1 win. Hardy led Utah Valley at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Madison Carr went 1-for-2. Katie Zuniga worked 5.2 innings in the circle with two strikeouts. Kaycie Jensen came in relief, pitching 1.1 innings with a strikeout. Jensen did not give up an earned run. GAME 2 After four scoreless innings, Seattle U got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning as Cathcart homered to center field with one on base to give SU a pair of runs. Thompson then doubled to left center before Nance doubled to score Thompson for SU's third run of the inning, giving the Redhawks a 3-0 lead. Utah Valley (15-17, 3-4) responded in the bottom half of the fifth inning as Laynee Betancur singled to shortstop to open the stanza. Karleigh Olsen then walked to push Betancur to second. Emery Nielson then reached on a fielder's choice as Peyton Prigge, who pinched run for Olsen, advanced to second and Betancur was thrown out at third. Jade Miller continue the fifth inning with a doubled down the right field line to send Nielson to third and Prigge across the plate for UVU's first run of the game. Linnah Rebolledo placed a bunt down and reached second on a throwing error to first, scoring both Miller and Nielson. Siena Sandoval continue the hitting as she singled and then advanced to second on the throw, while Rebolledo advanced to third. Milliken then doubled to center to score both Sandoval and Rebolledo. The Wolverines ended the inning with five runs to take a 5-3 lead into the sixth inning. The Redhawks scored one run in the top of the seventh and had the game-tying run on second base, but Utah Valley escaped the inning to secure the 5-4 win. Miller went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Sandoval, Basia Query, Betancur, and Nielson each had a hit. Devyn Cretz picked up the win in the circle for UVU, throwing a complete game with an impressive six strikeouts.

WOLVERINES SPLIT PAIR OF SATURDAY CONTESTS
Source: https://gouvu.com/news/2021/2/20/softball-wolverines-split-pair-of-saturday-contests.aspx
ST. GEORGE, Utah — After winning twice on Friday, Utah Valley University split two games on Saturday at the Dixie State Classic, falling to BYU 7-2 before rebounding with an 8-6 win over Nevada. In the nightcap against the Wolf Pack (6-3), the Wolverines (3-1) built an 8-2 lead and held on to clinch a winning weekend and started the season 3-1 for the third straight year. UVU jumped ahead of Nevada quickly with three in the top of the first inning. Madison Carr singled and Jade Miller was hit by a pitch before Basia Query doubled home the first run of the game. Siena Sandoval added a sac-fly and Linnah Rebolledo also drove in a run in the first. Nevada got a solo home run from Sadaria McAlister in the bottom of the inning and threatened for more but were limited to just the single run. The Wolf Pack got another run back in the second inning, but the Wolverines responded with two in the third. Jaeden Barajas earned an RBI when she drew a bases loaded walk and Emery Nielson hit a sacrifice fly for the second run and UVU led 5-2. Rien Milliken's RBI single started a three-run fifth. She later scored on Nielson's second RBI of the contest, a base hit back up the middle. Nielson also scored when Miller singled her home with a base hit to center and the Wolverines led 8-2. The Wolf Pack pushed across four runs in the fifth and had the potential tying run come to the plate in both the sixth and seventh, but the Wolverines held on. Katie Zuniga (1-0) got the win after 3.0 innings of one-run softball while Devyn Cretz pitched the final 3.0 innings and struck out seven and picked up her second save of the weekend. Miller and Rebolledo had two hits apiece as part of a nine-hit game for UVU. In the earlier game on Saturday, UVU suffered its first loss of the young season to the Cougars. BYU did the majority scoring early, with two in the first and three in the second. Violet Zavodnik hit a two-run home run in the first, and Emilee Erickson hit a solo shot in the second during the three-run frame that gave BYU a 5-0 lead. The Wolverines got on the board in the sixth, when Carr singled and later scored on an error. After BYU got that run back in the top of the seventh, Kyla Hardy drove in Peyton Prigge for the final 7-2 tally. Rebolledo had two of UVU's three hits in the contest. Zavodnik was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Cougars. UVU wraps up the weekend on Sunday with an 11 a.m. MT first pitch against No. 2 Washington, who is 8-1 on the season with the only loss coming on Friday to Nevada.
