(Some of this was snipped from another big project that I plan on doing for possibly next year's Nagisa Month. So if you're reading this a year from now and some of the dialogue feels like it's the same; congrats, you just watched a man plagiarize his own work!)
((tfw you thought you had this scheduled to post yesterday but it didn't go through 💀))
Month of Nagisa - Her True Intentions
Step by step, the unlikeliest of trios traversed through the building. The place was filled to the brim with Monokumas and messy writings from adults that had already succumbed to the apocalypse, or were part of the hundreds gathered outside where they were all ready to overthrow the long rule that Warriors of Hope had held in the city.
And yet, this unlikely trio had one of the members of the children that sent the city into ruins.
Komaru Naegi, a simple and normal, once-but-kind-of-still awkward but now confident and ready to stand against nothing girl.
Toko Fukawa, a shifty and introverted writer that found the closest bond she's ever had in her life in the strangest of places, now ready to fight alongside her.
And Nagisa Shingetsu, a young boy who was rescued from a near-death experience who had finally turned back to listening to his own mind once the dust had settled.
"Agh, I still can't believe he's ran off on his own to rally everyone up! W-Who does that guy even think he is? That giant Monokuma is... I mean, giant and all, but he's too rash! We're this close already... ugh." Toko talked to no one in particular, speaking out the frustration she felt. It was true, anyways. They were getting closer and closer to the top where the final boss was.
"I really don't think it's as bad as you make it, y'know. Come on, we're ready for this! Look, we even nabbed one of the kids already! Totally pacified!" Komaru replied, turning her back around to Toko as she showed off the newest member of their team, a small blue boy with a long bandage wrapped around his head attached onto her via a piggyback. There were signs of blood that had been absorbed by said bandage, but otherwise, the boy was more thankful that he was still alive.
"I'd... kind of appreciate it if you didn't speak of me like some sort of collectible, thanks. Besides, the reason that adult stormed off in the first place is because you two decided to help me out of my situation." Nagisa answered back, sighing as he simply kept himself stuck to Komaru. He wasn't really in a state where moving much was recommended, anyways.
"We just felt bad for you, alright? And besides, I don't think he's mad enough that he'll abandon us completely. Riiight?" Komaru added on in a sympathetic tone.
"Uh huh..." Toko replied, nodding sarcastically.
"Why do you sound so unsure?!"
"For what it's worth, I really don't think he hates our guts. He just hates the fact that you're still alive, kid." The writer spoke again, looking over at the boy.
"I really can't say I blame him. I was part of the problem too... and worshipped her. A lot. That probably pisses him off to no end. Still... thank you. You two are... acceptable... for the most part."
The two just smiled. The boy responded with a raised eyebrow, but didn't question it any further. That was probably the closest thing to a compliment they could expect from him for now.
They'd make their way over to another corner in the tower through a fancy-looking door in a dreary corridor, and the voice they heard was far from something they expected - as it was completely familiar.
"Kyaaaa! Stop! Don't come near me!" A pinkhaired figure yelled from the bar that she was hanging on, kicking her feet in the air as she tried to keep the monstrous robots from under her away.
"Huh?! Hey, that's...!" Nagisa couldn't finish his sentence properly as his mind still tried to process what was in front of him. He rubbed his eyes, and it came to him now - that was Kotoko in trouble. How did she even get up there...?
"That girl! What is she doing...?" Komaru spoke on her own, taking a step back. She hadn't forgotten her... last encounter with the pinkette, to say the least.
"You two! And... huh, is that Nagisa on your back? Oh my goodness, you're alive! Hey, leader! Tell these two to help me!"
"I'm alive...? Wait, huh? Hang on a second, this is all- how did you even get up there-"
"GAH! That doesn't matter right now! I'm losing feeling in my arms and these stupid gross perverted robots are gonna eat me!"
"Okay okay! I'll help you, just stop yelling, my head still hurts...! What do you need us to do?" The blue-haired boy grabbed at his own forehead, sighing.
"There's a Monokuma Kid here controlling all of them! Find that kid and friggin' kill them!"
"Well, you heard her! Do that! Actually, wait, don't kill the child, please? Do everything but that..."
"Are we seriously helping out two of these brats...?" Toko turned to Komaru, hesitant.
"Well we already have one, I'm sure two wouldn't hurt! Come on! You just sit here for a bit, Nagisa."
She took him off of her shoulders and breathed a small sigh of relief from not having to carry his body anymore for the time being, and got to work.
A minute later, they'd eventually find the Monokuma Kid hiding in a pod and the robots they'd been controlling started to malfunction and overheat, as the megaphone gun made quick work of what was left.
The pink child finally let go of the bar she was clinging onto and landed with grace, giving a small bow as she smiled.
"Ah, I'm glad. Even the worthy homer sometimes nods." The girl spoke, turning her head over to the side when she heard another voice spoke.
"I'm... not sure you used that proverb right. Or if you should be the one to be using that at all." The blue boy spoke from where he stood, slowly limping as he still felt quite dizzy.
"Gah, whatever! Just because you're not good at it doesn't mean you should give up on it!" Kotoko turned her head away, crossing her arms while pouting her lips.
"Heh... fair enough. I'm glad you're okay though, and mostly the same at that." Nagisa spoke under a weak chuckle, a look of satisfaction and relief on his face. He seemed incredibly glad that at least one person he knew was still okay.
"Nagisa..." Kotoko mumbled under her breath, looking at him with eyes of pity. And before he even knew it, she was already charging at him and tackled him into the wall for a hug, crying out.
"Fgh-! Hey, at least give me a warning...! Ow, stop, everything hurts, ack-!"
"I was so scared, Nagisa...! I thought I was done for sure! All alone, surrounded by Monokumas! I've been betrayed too...! I thought I was the only one left...!"
"I get the idea, but could you at least get off of an injured man- gah!"
An impromptu war between a struggling and weakened boy trying to release himself from the grasp of an emotional girl's clingy and unrestrained hug commenced right before Komaru and Toko's eyes, as they just looked at each other and sighed, before walking up to them.
"Hey, are you two done yet? Because we kind of... need to go. Like, all of us." Komaru spoke, pointing a finger over at the door where they came from.
"Ah, don't worry about us. I think I need to have a little- ouch- chat with her anyways. Besides, Haiji Towa wouldn't be happy if us kids were with you, right? Just... leave us for a bit." Nagisa replied, still trying his best to resist the Mega Ultra Hug that Kotoko had put on him.
A small talk and a wave goodbye later, the former Warriors of Hope members were left alone in the room with a bunch of broken and knocked out Monokumas.
"Are you going to explain to me what was going on with you yet, or am I gonna die because you suffocated me with your clinginess?"
"Sheesh, no need to use big words like that, blueboy! Fine, I'll tell you everything." Kotoko finally let go and even changed her expression from one that was crying to something that was completely deadpan and calm, as the two of them sat beside each other against the wall. Nagisa figured that she was probably just putting on an act earlier. Again.
"To be honest, this is an act, too. To put this much effort into betraying me... I'm boiling with anger." Kotoko said that with the most neutral expression in the world, looking at the floor.
Nagisa stayed quiet for a bit, before he'd find his words.
"You're... talking about Monaca, aren't you?"
"Gah, who else?! She said it herself, she doesn't care about paradise, and never has! She tricked us! She tricked me, she tricked you... and she tricked Masaru and Jataro too... and now look! It's just you and me...! She took advantage of all of us!"
Kotoko lashed out and bumped a fist against the wall behind her, slouching in frustration.
"I can't believe her... and not just that! Remember when you found me and those two adults after I got beat by them?"
"Er, yeah? Honestly, I thought something bad was gonna happen to you, so I stepped in... why?"
"Before that, I actually got saved by those two. I got ambushed by Monokuma Kids, but then they came in and stopped them! It was like a whoosh, and a bang! Wha-pow!" She started making hand gestures in the air. The young boy couldn't really make heads or tails of what she was trying to make.
"I think that was Monaca's doing! Masaru and Jataro probably ended up the same way! And then she spun that entire story about them being dead...! She didn't just betray us, she tried to get us killed! What a massive... bitch...!"
She grabbed at the horns on her headband in irritation, pulling them away from each other to try and release her emotions out.
"W-Woah, I wouldn't... actually, you know what, you have a point."
Nagisa conceded, trying to counter the point about Monaca being the quote en quote "bitch", but he gave in. He probably acknowledged it and realized Kotoko's... description of her wasn't too far off.
"Those were her true intentions... I can't believe her. She didn't believe in friendship, or effort, or victory! All those years gone down the drain... and now... ugh. What are we gonna do now?"
Kotoko looked at Nagisa with genuine eyes. They were filled with confusion. She felt hopeless. Lost. And unsure of herself. And he couldn't blame her for it, honestly.
He sighed. He took his time, looking at the ceiling for a few seconds to find the right words before speaking.
"To be frank, I don't know what we should do either. We're down to two people... the Monokumas and the Monokuma Kids turned their back against us too, and the adults want us dead. The only reason we're both fine right now is because of the fact that those two schoolgirl adults were naive enough to save us. Seriously, what are they thinking?"
Nagisa let out another forced laugh again, smiling a little as he reminisced.
"But I trust those two's capabilities enough to finish the job. They'll know what to do. I tried to even force them out of the town, but look where they are now. It's incredible. Something straight out of a story. Seems like they were the heroes in all of this all along... and we were the villains. We lost."
"No, that's-" Kotoko tried to answer, but Nagisa was still talking to himself. She just quieted down and listened.
"I can't really find it in me to forgive myself. I wouldn't blame you if you didn't, either. I could've done better... as a leader, as a man. And yet look where I am. Sulking because I failed at my task again. Maybe Father and Mother was right... Maybe... Monaca was right..."
"Gah, would you just shut it? Nagisa, get a hold of yourself!" Kotoko pulled on one of his cowlicks to get his attention, the reaction he had certainly proving that it was effective.
"Owowow! Don't pull those!"
"Hmph... look, you... Monaca's the one you should be angry at! I... I saw what she did! The whole thing! And I know what it's like... for someone to..."
Kotoko froze for a bit, finding the power in her to get the words out.
"... force themselves on you like that. It's horrible. She's a disgusting monster."
Nagisa was taken aback. So that explains why she knew everything about Monaca's real goals already...
"If there's someone that messed up in the Warriors of Hope, it wasn't you, okay? If anything, I...! I messed up! More than you! You were always the one trying to get the paradise done more than anyone, but all of us were just playing along to Monaca's tune. You didn't fail, Nagisa. You were just on the wrong path. Please, stop blaming yourself... it's not your fault we ended up like this. I'm happy you were our leader for a bit... because you really cared. I'm sorry... I'm sorry for being such a nuisance that you always have to get us out of trouble... and when you needed help, I was... I didn't... do anything. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry..."
She was holding herself back from real tears falling out, before she restrained herself with her talents as an actress and gripped his shoulders, and started shaking him with all her vigor and yelling dramatically.
"So! Stop! Thinking! So! Negatively! It's Monaca you should be focusing that on!"
"Okaaaayy, I get it! You can stooooop shaking meeee, my head has a cuuuttt and I don't want it toooo open up!"
"Ah, sorry, sorry... eheheh." She bashfully stopped, backing away a little as she gave Nagisa a small pat on the shoulder, twiddling her fingers as she gave him a shy chuckle.
"Ugh... alright, I get what you mean. And really, there's nothing to apologize for. She would've gotten you to break too... she knows how to exploit all of us, so she would've found a way. I'm glad you're not hurt more than anything else. It's nice that at least you're still here."
"Ew, what's with this all of a sudden? You're so cheesy."
"Hey! I'm trying to be nice here."
"Dork. Never change, Nagisa."
She playfully punched him on the shoulder, the two of them chuckling as they laid against the wall, silent for a while before Kotoko turned to him again.
"Really though, what do you wanna do now? When this is all over, it doesn't really matter who wins. We're gonna get hunted down anyways. I don't think we have much time left. The final act's gonna start soon!"
"Sigh... well, if Naegi and Fukawa are the heroes, and Monaca is the only villain still left... I think it's only fitting we witness the story come to an end too. I have a few words I want to say to Monaca, anyways..."
He looked at her with a resolved look, nodding his head.
"You wanna put Monaca in her place?" Nagisa asked, a smug grin on his face.
"That's so villainous and evil. I like it. Let's put that poop-eating dirtbag in her wheelchair and throw her off the building."
"Wait, you're not actually planning on doing that, are you?"
"No, of course not! Obviously I would never hurt such a dear person to me!"
"... I can't tell if you're acting or not."
"You wanna guess?"
"No. Come on, let's get out of here."
"Yes, leader! The fighter is at your service!"
