On the pod (known for its great takes lol) they mention that they don't think Marissa was trying to turn Volchok into Ryan like he accuses her at the end of 323. Isn't that clear though? Lost boy, wrong side of the tracks, she even mentions earlier in the episode that she will protect him at prom. I know Marissa disagrees and says "it's not like that you know that" but I imagine it was subconsciously. Why she decides to go back to him (other than being lost?) is never made clear to us.

I feel like that was something KV put on himself. Marissa doesn't really see people as just one thing and she thinks that people can co-exist in two different worlds. It's part of why Ryan coming to town wasn't a big deal to her. I see where he's coming from, and he's dealing with a lot of insecurities entering 'her world' but I really think Marissa just sees people as people and wasn't trying to do anything to 'change' him. She just thought it'd be cute to have her bf at prom. I really don't think it was deeper than that 🤷‍♀️

I think KV showing that he had a soft side to him made her go back to him. Because up until then she was with him because he was rough and made her feel numb ("if I wanted to be treated right, I wouldn't be with you" in 3x19). Seeing that he took her Sound of Music thing to heart (no matter how illogical her fantasy was) was just that nudge telling her that maybe there was something real there. I think it's coupled with her feeling lost and out of place at Berkeley and, in a way, turning her back on the college route by resurrecting a relationship that she thought was meaningless.
