Set of We the People mitts heading to Texas🤘🏼 I made the first set of these in 2018. Since then they’ve remained my best selling glove. I appreciate everyone who has purchased a pair,or two 🙏🏼 No matter how many sets I make,there is always going to be a uniqueness to each set because they are made one set at a time. Even more,no two cuts of leather will ever be identical. They will be made even more unique by how often you wear them. How much or how little you put a coat of mink oil or beeswax on them. I personally kind of like the way the gloves look when they get a bit more dry and sun faded…but,I also love to see how much depth comes back out when a moisturizer or conditioner is applied. I guess my biggest point of this post is to say…. I can’t believe I still love making gloves 😂 I never planned it. Never thought it would last. Most importantly: I never would’ve thought I’d make some of the friends I have because of it. To those friends… Sorry I’m such a shitty friend 😂🤘🏼 Seriously…. Say Hello To Sophia

After hours of deliberation, negotiation, and consternation, after crunching numbers, bingeing review videos, and inspecting specs, after sweating, swearing, and sobbing (kidding) I'm glad to say that I'm the new owner of a 2018 Softail Low Rider (FXLR).

When I set out to buy a new bike I wanted everything in one package. I wanted a tourer and a canyon carver. I wanted a highway runner and boulevard stunner. I wanted more power and fewer problems. In the end, the 2018 Softail checked more boxes than the rest, but the primary goal of purchasing a new bike was the comfort factor.  

For over a year now, Michelle has endured the spine-shattering stiffness of the Sportster's suspension. There were numerous times where she was almost bucked off the back by a bump in the road or a gaping pothole. On top of that, the minimally padded passenger seat never provided sufficient comfort for the long haul.  

We would commonly refer to the passenger seat as a Maxi-Pad due to its shape and lack of cushion.

Lastly, the squished quarters of the Iron made riding 2-up cumbersome and dangerous. If I slammed on the brakes, Michelle's inertia would push me on top of the tank, crotch-first. If Michelle wanted to relax, she wouldn't have room to lean back, as the sissy bar was already digging into her lower lumbar. 

It felt like I was Luke Skywalker riding a speeder bike with Yoda on my back. Ideal if you’re trying to save the universe from the Galactic Empire, not ideal for highway safety.

It's actually quite funny, during the buying process, my salesman mentioned that his wife wanted him to turn in his Softail Heritage for a Street Glide for the same reasons. It was like seeing a future version of myself, 10 years removed from my first bagger purchase.

When I told Michelle, she said: "I wonder how much money Harley's made off the uncomfortable asses of girlfriends and wives." 

As for the drawbacks of the Softail, sure, I'm not the biggest fan of the side covers or the swingarm. Sure, I wish the pipes were louder. Sure, I'd love taller handlebars. But those are things that most Harley owners customize in the first place. 

As Harley riders, we express ourselves through the motorcycle. We weld, bend, paint, screw, solder, saw, and grind. There's no style you can't achieve. There's no look that's unattainable.  And that's the challenge I'm looking forward to. How do I make this bike my own? How do I imbue it with modern-day performance and old-school style?

Below is a mock-up of how I plan to customize Sophia in the coming months.

It’s a very rudimentary PhotoShop job, but it hints at the direction in which I’m aiming.

- Taller handlebars

- Two Brothers Racing Exhaust

- Custom Sissy Bar
