Baripada: A female elephant died at Similipal reserve forest in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district due to old age-related ailments, officials said Wednesday. முதுமலை தேசிய பூங்கா மசினகுடி என்ற இடத்தில அமைந்துள்ளது. மசினகுடி கோவையில் இருந்து கிட்டத்தட்ட 168 கிலோமீட்டர் தூரத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளது. கோவையில் இருந்து காரில் சென்றால், மேட்டுப்பாளையம், குன்னூர், ஊட்டி, கூடலூர் வழியாக மசினகுடி வந்து சேரலாம். சாலையின் இருபக்கங்களிலும் மரங்கள், செடிகள், கொடிகள் போன்றவற்றை காணலாம். அங்கெங்கெ நெடிது வளர்ந்து இருக்கும் பைன் மரங்களையும் காணலாம். வளைந்து செல்லும் சாலைகள், கிட்டத்தட்ட 20 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட கொண்டை ஊசி வளைவுகளை கடந்து தான் செல்லவேண்டும். சுற்றுலாவை விரும்புபவர்கள், ஊட்டி, பைக்காரா, போன்றவற்றை பார்த்துவிட்டு மசினகுடி வந்து அங்கு அமைந்துள்ள சிறு சிறு குடில்களில் தங்குவார்கள். முற்றிலும் காடுகள் என்பதால், யானைகள், புலிகள், கரடிகள், காட்டெருமைகள் போன்ற மிருகங்கள் உலவுவதை காணலாம். நடந்து செல்லுவதற்கு அங்கு அனுமதி இல்லை பாதுகாப்பு இல்லை என்பதால். கார்கள், டெம்போக்கள் மற்றும் இரு சக்கரவாகனங்களை பயன்படுத்தி சாலைகளை கடக்கலாம். Established in 1972, Theppakadu Elephant Camp is one of the most popular tourist places in Masinagudi. It houses many elephants, who are fed and bathed daily, and visitors can catch a glimpse of it. The elephants are trained under the supervision of experienced mahouts (elephant men). The killer elephant turns protector in India.

Moorthy the elephant has turned from a villain to a hero. The 58-year-old attained infamy after killing 28 people and terrorizing villages in India's Tamil Nadu. A shoot-to-kill order was issued against the beast, causing him to retreat into the jungle. But when he was tracked down, officials decided to save his life. Moorthy was moved to a sanctuary where he was treated and trained. His trainers now say he's nothing more than a gentle giant. He now works as a Kumki, a pachyderm police force used to keep wild elephants away from villages.India is home to around 25,000 elephants. Human encroachment on their natural habitats usually leads to conflict.
