Kudos to Marc Myers for posting this tribute to the brilliant Stéphane Grappelli, hosted by the guitarist Martin Taylor, who became a musical partner of Grappelli during the later part of the violinist’s life. Very enjoyable!

Work setup for the last day of #axsconclave - award presentations to my right (iPad), work-life on my left (I’ve had two work calls this morning hahahaha). But no cats this morning, they’re having zoomie races in the other room 😜 I’ve missed seeing everyone in person and chatting and catching up 💖 but having to transition everything online due to COVID19 is better than having no Conclave at all. Bonjour à tous! My roommate, Mackenzie, and I spent days 4-6 (our first weekend of independent travel) in Paris, France! Honestly, I’m still in shock that I was able to experience this incredible city’s love of the arts first-hand. Before I get started on what our Parisian adventures looked like, I should let you know that I love admiring architecture, so I was pleasantly overwhelmed while exploring this city and out of the 300-some pictures on my camera right now it’s nicely split into random buildings and artwork I saw in the museums! Now let’s get started! We arrived in Paris around the late afternoon on Friday, and after getting settled into our AirBnB we were able to meet up with some friends who were on the Paris/Amsterdam/Berlin junior journey! We met up with them in a cute little area not too far from the Notre Dame cathedral and grabbed some pizza before heading out to a cafe by their hotel. On the way to the cafe, they took us to see the Arc de Triomphe (second picture listed - you can also peep some of the cars that are miraculously driving in the most intense roundabout I’ve ever seen)! Saturday morning, we had an early start to roam about the Louvre - aka the world’s largest museum!!!! Since we only had a day to see our top picks in Paris, we weren’t able to explore the museum as much as we would have hoped, but we made sure to see our favorite exhibits - my favorites were the Roman sculptures! It was a lovely day, we had the perfect breeze paired with sunshine, so we decided to walk from the Louvre to the Eiffel Tower.  We were actually really glad we walked it because we loved being able to stop and look at all of the different kinds of detail on all the buildings, and we even got to see La Seine - so naturally we made a pit stop along the way to snap a quick pic. When we had finally made it to the Eiffel Tower, we stood there for a couple of seconds to just let the fact that we were seeing this incredible, historic monument in person sink in. The fact that we were close enough to even see the different sets of elevators moving within it, and also being able to see people walking up the stairs (kudos to them) was insane!! We took a little bit to sit on the lawn in front of it with some ice cream and protein bars to snack on while we enjoyed the view. When we finished up there we decided to hop on to a Big Red Bus tour - best decision we made all day 10/10 would recommend! The bus took us around the city to the rest of the places on our list, like the Notre Dame cathedral and Musée d’Orsay. Notre Dame was INCREDIBLE! I fell in love with its architecture - all of the the statues lining the front of it were fantastic and the stained glass inside was beautiful (one of the stained glass windows is pictured, that particular one had a twin facing it on the opposite side of the cathedral). Outside of Notre Dame we stumbled upon one of the many street artists and purchased some of his pieces! From there we headed over to Musée d’Orsay just to be blown away once more! First off, I would just like to say - much appreciation to them for giving us a student discount, that always makes my even better. As soon as we walked in, we made a beeline for the Monet exhibit! The work in there, as well as the other exhibits were fantastic! There were a variety of pieces featuring an abundance of artists, including Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, and Georgia O’Keefe. One of my favorite pieces from the Monet exhibit is pictured above and is titled “Le Château de cristal en mer” and was done by Wenzel Hablik. Mackenzie and I had a blast weaving into and out of the many side rooms with all of these amazing pieces of artwork! We also loved the way the museum was set up, and later found out that it was once a train station! While exploring the museum we stumbled upon its cafe on the second floor, which was literally the most stunning room I have ever stepped foot in. The room was white with gold accents and trim, with paintings covering the corners and ceiling! From there, we hopped on the tour bus for a joyride and enjoyed the view of the city and reflected on everything we had seen that day. After going through it all and still being able to point out building and statues that we were seeing on the bus ride, we agreed that one of the most rewarding things from this experience was being able to explore this city and experience its culture and appreciate their art which are older than our entire country - it’s insane! That night we met up with our friends from the other trip, as well as some other students on our trip at the Eiffel Tower to enjoy some Nutella crepes and the view of the sparkling tower!
