ferid is hungarian: proof + age guesstimate

so i’ve been re-reading the michaela light novels and i stumbled across a part where there was a character who had a name of hungarian origin, and it instantly reminded me of ferid. i think from the beginning after doing very basic research on his name, i came to the conclusion that ferid is hungarian but here’s a very long analysis post proving that! with evidence >:)

SO let’s start with his surname. the surname ‘Báthory’ is of hungarian origin and is also common in poland and slovakia. after doing some (more) research, it appears to be the surname of the famous bathory clan, a royal family that ruled over hungary from the 13th century to the 17th. back in ferid’s day, there weren’t really proper countries so those three probably co-existed in the same region.

this next part fucked with me a little bit because we don’t know ferid’s age, or the age he was when he was turned into a vampire. after doing some math and finding out crowley’s age, i decided to use some rough numbers and use to that to get a *very* rough guess of ferid’s age.

according to ferid’s bio, he is over 1200 years old. okay. let’s use the math from the post about crowley’s age. in the year 2024, according to crowley’s bio crowley is 825 years old. subtract 825 from 2024 and you get 1199. which means that in the year 1224, crowley was 25 years old and that was the year ferid found him. i’m going to bump up ferid’s age just a tad and say that he’s 1221 years old, because when i look at him he looks like a 21 year old lmao i’m sorry it’s the only way i can describe it. so in the year 1224, based on some very rough calculations, ferid would be about 396 years old. (i hope this math is right because it feels wrong haha)

the reason i chose to make ferid’s age so close to the 1200 mark is because of a small conversation i remembered in the early chapters, something lest karr said to krul. he told her “i’m a mere two centuries younger than you”. lest and krul are both 3rd progenitors, while ferid is a 7th and ferid’s sire is a 2nd. krul’s age is also stated as over 1200, but if lest karr was only 1000 years old that would make him younger than ferid. doesn’t seem right. lest and krul’s sire is 2500 something years old, so i would put krul’s age at a 1500-1700 or maybe ever closer to 2000 mark. which is why i would make ferid’s age about 1221. so lest’s age would then also make sense.

let’s leave the math behind and continue on with his surname. the bathory royal family only ruled hungary from the 13th-17th century, but they stilll *existed* before that. meaning that in the year 828 B.C. would be when ferid was born. (i swear i’m doing something wrong please don’t feel bad about correcting me if you think something is off)

the year 800 B.C. in hungary was the start of the iron age, and the beginning of the development of the hungarian language. in that time period, it was a sort of “hungary before the hungarians”, meaning there wasn’t any official country or borders or any sort of thing like that. this leads on to his first name!

according to my sources, the name ‘Ferid’ (also spelled Farid or Fareed) is of arabic origin and is common in the middle east, other parts of asia, and the balkans. this is where the balkans part comes in, because me personally coming from the middle east (iran and turkey) and also visiting other middle eastern countries (qatar, etc) i have never in my life heard the name ferid. or... have i? thinking of it, i’ve heard the name fareed. it exists! just the spelling threw me off. when i first heard his name was ferid i was thinking to myself “maybe he’s a half or something” but looking at him closer and the way he’s described doesn’t strike me as anything but european. (he’s very white.) human crowley described him as very pale, delicate, slender, looking a sort of fragile, etc. that throws me the path of european, + his hair color too.

SO! first name analysis!

hungary is not currently part of the balkans... but in 800 B.C?

there weren’t country borders, but there WERE different clans that ruled over different parts of europe. after looking at some maps and wikipedia, it was shown that the part of the world that is currently the country hungary used to be part of the area that is currently considered the balkans. also to note that hungary borders the balkans.
