Yuu was correct when he said Mika knew the layout of the underground city. Stepping out into the alley that made up their road home was a familiar motion from the four years they had been stuck here together and the additional four he spent alone. He could now tell Yuu that there were multiple ways out of Sanguinem, from the hole Yuu had left through to the gates that welcomed caravans of livestock and other vehicles.

But Yuu was much too eager right now to make rash decisions. Mika followed him into the shadows with red eyes that gleamed in the dim light. That narrowed when he immediately picked up on Yuu's tone, much too similar to the time he prompted Mika to drink his blood, demanded that they'd save his friends, expected him to trust his decision to trust Guren. "Yuu," he stressed, blond brows furrowing as he retained his temper. "Will you just listen to me for a moment?"

"I would have given anything to turn back time and save them. I understand. They were my family too!" The grief felt like a distant memory now, but he still bore the scar. He knew, deep in his heart, that if Yuu weren't by his side, he'd want to be selfish and demand the same thing. It was because Yuu was there that he had to consider his future and what was best for him, too. "I'm just worried that you are not thinking this all the way through. You know what it might mean if we do this; are you really prepared for the consequences?"

And there were so many consequences. It was a blessing to be able to warn their younger selves about the army and their experiments, but it also prevented them from becoming strong enough to defeat the vampires in their way. Krul, Ferid, Guren, and who knew how many others would eventually catch on to them and the Seraph gene they covet. They were either doomed to be livestock or sacrificed to their schemes as they were now. All of that was just the tip of the iceberg.

"You're so committed to saving us that you'd leave the family you found on your own behind? Knowing you might never see them the same way again?" He couldn't believe it. Yes, what they had gone through was a tragedy, but the way he saw it, Yuu had set the foundation to start living again. He couldn't see him clinging to this past so hard that he'd willingly erase all he had gained. "We can save them now, but we might lead them to even more despair in the long run."

Inside, Akane looked troubled as she looked over the rest of their stock. Mika had gathered so much fresh fruit and vegetables, including the occasional package of meat, a surprising find for these back channels he knew of. She wouldn't know if anything would preserve well enough to last a trek until they could find a new home. "Um, I know potatoes can potentially last several months...?"

She was saved by Ako, beaming at the little girl as she led her toward the counters. "Okay! I'll chop the veggies and you can throw them in and stir the pot! We're gonna have a nice warm soup for everyone!"

Little Mika hummed and crossed his arms. Yuu had a point, they didn't know what they would find once they were outside. It'd be best to preserve what they could from this place for as long as they needed to. "I'll see if I can get my hands on some canned food—or something that will last as long as a potato." Ferid always had a feast laid out for the kids that visited him; surely there'd be a well-stocked kitchen he could raid, instead.

He didn't miss the way Akane blushed pink, her knife cutting through the carrots especially hard. His smile faltered when Yuu approached, asking the question he dreaded to answer truthfully. If he had been concerned for Yuu's opinion before, he was honestly scared now.

"Aha, are you sure that isn't just you picking a fight with them?" he deflected, taking a few steps back to guide him away from the kitchen area. Not that it mattered; Akane was having a loud, animated conversation with Ako to drown out whatever he could be saying. "If you were more charming, like me, you could get anything you wanted too." He averted his gaze elsewhere, unable to look at Yuu as he got his thoughts in order. The older Yuu already knew, no matter how he figured it out, and Mika would prefer it if it were on his own terms.

Now or never. He lowered his voice, almost unheard over everyone else, and trained his eyes down to their feet. "I heard it through one of the other kids that a noble would give you anything in exchange for a little blood. For our family, it felt like a small price to pay at the time." Except this particular noble had been playing him like a fiddle, toying with every single one of his turbulent emotions. How could he have been so blind? "I... I'm planning to go meet with him again—I'll grab everything we need. Food, blankets, clothes, you name it!"

Yuichiro had a feeling he already knew what Mika wanted to talk to him about and sighed. He remembered what he'd said to him when he first appeared after all and should have known that Mika wouldn't just let it be. Despite Yuichiro's resolve to see certain things through, that never stopped the blond from trying to change his mind on the matter.

Even so, he nodded and turned to leave the house after casting a smile back at the kids. Already they were starting to look a little more chipper again. He kept that image in mind when he left the house as well and moved to stand in the shadow of the side of the place so they were less likely to be seen.

Though he eyed the bag at Mika's side suspiciously. He felt he already knew what was in there, he knew what the squad would have told Mika. And if they knew exactly where in time he went, it made sense for them to send the blond rather than anyone else. Since it was more likely to them that they'd listen to him rather than any of them.

Joke was on them, he wasn't listening to Mika either.

"Before you even start to tell me how dumb I'm being.. I already told you, I'm seeing this through. I know that probably means the timeline we came from will probably fade away and that's fine. We have a chance to save them, Mika.. And a chance to keep you human!"

Much like Guren, he didn't care who he had to hurt if it meant keeping his family safe. And before he ever met Shinoa and the rest of the squad, Mika and all of those kids were his family first. They did and would always take the highest priority.

"I'm taking that chance. Are you with me in this or not?"

Inside the house, Yuu had no idea what his Mika was going to share with him. He was telling Kouta that he'd never be stronger than him, but he could get stronger in his own right. He was trying to rally the kids about being serious about making plans to leave the city soon. He was also asking Akane what kind of food that they could make that would last for a while. Since they didn't know how long it would take to get to their new home once they left here, he felt that, that was an important thing to think about.

"I can help cook, Akane!" Ako brightly offered.

Behind, her more of the kids piped up with what they could do to help and Yuu gave a satisfied nod. They'd be out of Sanguinem before the leeches even knew they had left the house at all at this rate. With all of them busy doing their own thing, Yuu finally moved to talk to Mika.

"By the way, how are you getting all of this stuff anyway? The other kids down here always seem to want to fight before they give anything to anyone else."

Yuu should know, he'd been on the receiving end of a few beat downs himself.
