A diagram of Sloane's leg prosthesis. I've never posted this but I use it all the time as refence.

The middle drawing is her "civilian" legs and the right is her "work" legs. the civilian legs let her walk and jog normally and they fit in pants and most shoes. In civilian mode she stands at 5'9", her approximate natural height. Where as the work legs let her run at more than human speeds as well as kick and jump with power. She can adjust the tension in the front pneumatic pistons with brain impulses to make them more or less bouncy. They also make her 3 inches taller (6'0"). The legs use the same socket thigh pieces and detach at the knee. So, yes, that does mean for the work legs she needs to put on the thighs, then her pants (cut off and hemmed above the knee, of course), then attach the rest of her leg. it's tricky but she's used to it at this point.

On the right you can see the Nanoderm caps on her stumps with the magnetic nodes and the bone spike port on the bottom. I never finished or posted this because I was afraid that drawing looked at bit silly floating there in that pose but I'm overthinking it. Amputees be missing bits, deal with it!

Sketches of a new side character for Kamen Rider NRV! Her name is Millie Tackhammer! 5'3", 25yo. She's an analyst for the Manticore Special Security Division. She has a masters in computer science, Manticore was her first real job out of college. She's shy and struggles with imposter syndrome at work being the youngest and newest member of the team and not having a background in military, police, intelligence like the rest of the team (before Nat showed up, of course). But she's really nice and sweet and is a desperate people pleaser. Her and Nat will bond over being the babies and newbies of the team. also she's hopelessly, catastrophically in love with Sloane. She'd never admit it because it would be inappropriate for an employee to have relations with her boss but mostly it's just shyness.

Kamen Rider NRV Lore Dump!

Manticore

Manticore LLC is a major medical technology company. Publicly, they are most known for their artificial organs and limb prosthesis as well as several other medical devices and equipment used in hospitals worldwide. Less widely publicized are their numerous military contracts, developing cutting edge medical treatment technologies but also advanced weapons, drones, and other offensive hardware.

Nanoderm

The scientific breakthrough that lead Manticore to dominate in the field of med-tech is the invention of micro-sensors that are capable of reading brain signals in the nervous system and translating them into data a computer can interpret with absolute precision. These microscopic sensors can be integrated into programmable nanomachines that interlock in a mesh that forms durable skin-like material called Nanoderm.  If an exposed section of human tissue is covered in Nanoderm and then allowed to heal, the Nanoderm will become integrated with the tissue like a layer of natural skin. Any impulses or signals sent by the brain to that part of the body will be received by the Nanoderm and translated into data. That data can then be read as motor commands by a Manticore prosthesis. Basic prosthesis models can receive this data via magnetic nodes embedded in the surface of the Nanoderm but more advanced models, capable of finer dexterity/expanded functionality, require a “bone spike,” a rod-like data plug that interfaces with a port in the Nanoderm area that is connected to more advanced sensors. The socket and sensor hardware is imbedded in the body through a surgical procedure.

The catch with the Nanoderm system is it must be applied to the body before the exposed tissue heals over and the exposed nerve endings have a chance to close off, or in other words, while the wound is “fresh”, otherwise the healed tissue must be cut away and a fresh wound made. This means that in emergency situations a patient or their next of kin must make a snap decision to undergo the expensive Nanoderm compatibility surgery as part of their emergency treatment. Of course some insurance plans will cover some or all of this cost. Additionally Manticore has deals with some insurance providers that the surgery come standard with higher end coverage plans, forgoing the need for patient consent. Manticore has exclusive patent rights to the Nanoderm system, meaning once you are Nanoderm compatible, you are locked into the Manticore ecosystem of prosthesis and devices. Additionally your devises can only be serviced by Manticore certified technicians and only Manticore doctors are trained in Nanoderm patient care.

Remote Command (RC)

Manticore is a sprawling corporation with many secrets. One such secret is the Remote Command program. A project Manticore has been working on behind closed doors, the Remote Command program involves research into sending brain signals over great distances without a physical connection between the sensor and the receiving devise. With RC a person could control a prosthetic arm in another part of the world as though it were part of their body. This is achieved by broadcasting the impulses across a proprietary electromagnetic wave length to the receiving nodes. The signal travels point to point and back again at light speed. The potential RC has for the future of drone warfare is staggering, not to mention the potential for profit.

Sensitive as this information is, there’s another layer. All Nanoderm currently in use by people around the world is capable of receiving Remote Command. With the right inputs it can reshape its self, self-replicate, and even, under certain conditions, send signals back to the user’s brain, causing brain damage or, theoretically, controlling them. Whether this functionality of Nanoderm was an intentional feature or not is unknown to anyone currently employed at Manticore but the company has no pans currently to use the Nanoderm in this way. What is known, however, is that if this function ever becomes public knowledge it would be disastrous for Manticore, not to mention the chaos that would ensue if a bad actor were to exploit this function for malicious purposes.

Manticore Special Security (Spec-Sec)

Manticore LLC has secrets, and it has enemies. To protect its secrets, combat its enemies, address the threats to public safety those things pose, (and protect its corporate interests), Manticore formed the Manticore Special Security Division. More than just your standard private security outfit, Spec-Sec is a fully equipped task force and strike force designed to identify, target, track, confront, and nullify any threat to the company and its assets. Thanks to Manticore’s history of generous donations and good standing with local police forces, the Spec-Sec Division is able to operate with a certain degree of discretion, allowing them to carry out operations without interference from police or the legal system. Lead by Special Security Director Sloane, her hand-picked crack team of Special Officers have carried out dozens of high risk operations with ruthless efficacy and, so-far, minimal casualties. Spec-Sec utilizes the most cutting edge technology and weaponry Manticore has, often before it’s even close to market ready. In some cases necessity dictates that Spec-Sec operations serve as ad hoc field tests for experimental equipment.

Core Drivers, Data Boosters, and the Kamen Rider program

The Core Driver is a piece of technology that was developed as part of research into the use of Nanoderm to enhance a soldier’s physical performance on the battlefield. The concept was to temporarily cover the user’s entire body in a layer of Nanoderm mesh that could respond to the signals from the user’s brain in such a way that would increase their strength, speed, perception, and reflexes. The solution was the Core Driver, a device that would house the billions of Nanoderm nanomachines and serve as the computational core for the whole mesh network. Along with the Core Driver was the Data Booster, a flash drive-like device shaped like a syringe. The data booster contained the information that told the nanomachines to deploy from the Core Driver and cover the user. Additionally the Booster came with its own payload of nanomachines that, when the plunger of the syringe was depressed, would also be deployed through the Core Diver and take the form of armor and weapons. Basically, a user need only insert the Data Booster into the Core Diver, clearly speak a voice authentication phrase, and depress the plunger and they would instantly be wearing a powerful yet flexible armored body suit. The project was called the “Kamen Rider program” after the masked visage of the user’s armored faceplate (“Kamen” being the Japanese word for “mask”).

The Project had its drawbacks, however. For one a user would need to already be Nanoderm compatible for the suit to work at all, meaning, practically speaking, the user would need to be an amputee, and the prospect of convincing soldiers to sacrifice a limb to use the Driver was deemed a “hard sell” and the idea of a approaching a freshly maimed soldier with the offer of further combat, well, that wouldn’t be a good look either. The second and most important drawback was the simple fact that the Kamen Rider program was far, FAR too expensive to be profitable, and the thousands of man hours it took to produce just one Core Driver meant mass producing them to sell by the battalion, as Manticore had planned, was simply out of the question.

The Kamen Rider Program was not completely abandoned, however. The first completed Core Driver, designation SVR (Special Versatility Rider model or “Sever” colloquially) is currently coded to Director Sloane of Spec-Sec, who happens to be a double transfemeral amputee. With the Director’s input, the device and the suit itself have been modified heavily over its years of use. It now features the ability for additional Data Boosters to be employed, loaded with weapons and tools in the form of appendages that attach to highly advanced versions of Bone Spike sockets on the suit at the amputation sites of the Rider’s body. The nerve signal enhancing properties of the suit allows the Rider to manipulate these complex, non-human-like appendages with a natural ease and minimal adjustment period.

A second Core Driver has just recently been put to use in the field at Spec-Sec. The first Kamen Rider designed from the ground up with Spec-Sec modifications. Designation NRV (Neo Rider Variant or “Nerve” colloquially) is encoded to the Division’s newest member, Special Officer Nat Agbayani. A right shoulder disarticulation amputee, he was promoted to the Special Security Division from the internship program in the research wing by the COO of Manticore himself… wait what? That can’t be right…

The existence of any other Core Drivers, in use or otherwise, is classified.

Pop music, pop punk, nostalgic slow jams

3. weapon of choice? any particular reason they chose their weapon?

Grappling hook, it was the first attachment his suit came with

4. how crafty/resourceful are they?

Surprisingly, he’s small and inexperienced but smart and can clutch out a last minute victory when it really counts. 

Has a 10000 iq fight brain but tends to bull head through every other aspect of life

5. how do they typically dress? does their wardrobe lean more towards practicality or aesthetics?

At work: Business professional but in a boyish way, short sleeve button shirt, slightly too loud tie, brightly colored sneakers, a blue suit instead of black. Off hours: dressed for comfort, pastels and whites, fits that read slightly twinkish

At work: G Man standard black suit and tie with a white shirt and black sunglasses, tho the sleeves tend to be pushed up by the end of the day. The only alteration she makes is cropping and hemming her slacks above the knee to accommodate her prosthesis. Off hours: she keeps a bit of punk in her wardrobe; ripped jean shorts, altered band tees, plus a cool black and green motorcycle jacket.

6. how do they wear their hair? do they care a lot how their hair looks?

Messy foppish mop parted mostly to one side, perpetually in need of a hair cut

Learned that one professional-enough bun and never looked back, is careful to leave just enough fringe on the sides to make a little frame, plus bangs swept to one side

7. favorite animal? Why?

Cats, grew up with them

None, not allowed to have pets growing up, just doesn’t think about animals much.

8. do they have a nickname? who gave it to them? if it's not derived from their real name, what's the story behind it?

“Nat” is just short for Nathanael

“Sloane” is more an alias than a nickname but it’s from shortening her surname Slowhan. She came up with it when she ran away to join the army. It’s not the most clever name in the world but a cute girl in basic training asked what her first name was and she had to come up with something.

“Sloane Slowhan?”

“Just… Sloane.”

9. favorite food? least favorite? are they a picky eater? do they have any dietary restrictions?

Dressed up instant noodles, sushi but not the adventurous ones, Asian sweets generally

I don’t like to think about my characters in relation to myself much but I would say, broadly, Nat is my optimistic, hopeful, naive side and Sloane is my jaded, adult, warn down by the world side

Raised by Nanay and Lola (mom and grandma) but moved out of state for college, mom took a job in the Philippines and has been back and forth stateside for most of his teens

A fluffy white three legged cat named Snowball or something

Didn’t have a lot of money so there weren't any fancy vacations but had fun as kids do

No driver’s license, no car, does have a license for a moped but hasn’t gotten a new one since his accident

I truly don’t hear a voice in my head for either of them, I wish I did, I’ve been waiting for a voice claim to cross my ears but nothing yet

Used to sing backup vocals in a punk band which is to say she can’t “sing” but she can wail with passionate fury, but it’s been years since those days.

He likes to have a cozy cute aesthetic in his personal spaces but isn’t really creative in his hobbies, always been more of a STEM kid

Forced to play cello in school and later took up electric bass in that punk band but hasn’t kept up with it, she still has the bass but it’s broken.

25. how good/bad is their hearing? what about their eyesight?

Fine

Clumsy! Prone to tripping over his own feet and dropping things, tho less so since upgrading from his original cheap prosthetic arm. In combat he’s nimble and fleet footed, getting a lot of his power from finding ways to get airborne and then slam down on enemies quickly.

Surefooted. She moves on her seemingly unwieldy prosthetic legs with a practiced ease, she’s fast too. In combat she’s even faster, overwhelming an opponent with speed and disorientation as well as fast attacks that seem to come from every direction.

27. if applicable, do they have a favorite sport? do they play any sports or prefer to watch?

Absolutely not a sports guy

Combat sports; MMA, kick boxing, various martial arts, etc.

28. how do they show that they care about someone? how do they express that they don't like someone?

Is very fast to make friends and be chummy with people and anyone who’s heart isn’t made of frozen coal can’t help but reciprocate, tho he finds romantic feelings kind of confusing and tends to ignore them or block them out. If he doesn’t like some he will just try to avoid them or be small and invisible when he’s around them. It takes A LOT for him to speak up or call someone out.

Has a fierce mama bear instinct when it comes to defending people she cares about or are under her charge but struggles tremendously to express care directly to others. Emotional attachments and especially romance are absolutely out of the question. “It’s just better for everyone that way.” on the flip side, if she doesn’t like you, you will know immediately.

29. are they associated with any particular element (air, earth, fire, water)?

I have never thought about it… I’ll get back to you.

30. do they smell like anything notable?

All his little sweet soaps and shampoos he doesn’t realize make him smell somewhat feminine

Loves giving gifts! loves receiving gifts! The perfect gift is something thoughtful and personal without being extravagant.

I think I need an example, I can’t think of anything.

The nicest, sweetest kid they’ve ever met, but naïve, the day he learns what this job is actually about it will shatter him, we must protect him for as long as we can

A hard ass, a grump, kind of a bitch tbh, but there’s no one else you’d want in your corner or watching your back. Commands loyalty through example.

34. how would your character describe themselves? it doesn't have to line up with how they really are.

A medical engineering Major taking a break from school to pursue this unique job opportunity at Manticore Medicine and Technology

A woman with a job to do. One of the few people who understands how the world Really works.

The whole rest of the Manticore Special Security team! I've been picking away at these sketches for a while whenever I can find the time and/or energy, I want to ink and color these properly at some point but enjoy these pencils for now!

The Spec-Sec team is a private security agency within Manticore LLC that is responsible for protecting the companies assets and cleaning up it's assets. Sloane is the director of the team and she and Nat are the "Riders", the main muscle that's deployed when threats escalate beyond quiet containment. The rest of the team function a support staff for the Riders; filed agents, investigators, intel gatherers, data analysts, and when needed, enforcers. They all have various backgrounds in military, police, intelligence, and computer science. They were all highly capable in their fields but for one reason or another ended up leaving their fields and found themselves in the private sector serving a corporate master. Still, the needs of the company often align with fighting enemies that are just as much threats to the public as they are to Manticore's business and image so the Spec-Sec team is able to see their job as "doing good"... but one has to wonder just how long that will last.
