i really don't know if others will appreciate this as much as i do but i think that collin really loves kraftwerk, so i just had to draw this. i have at least one other idea in my mind using this premise so watch out for those if my anxiety allows me to draw them in a way that pleases me. i was waiting until i drew them to post this as a collection, but i guess i can just do that later since i don't know how long that's going to take.
kraftwerk used to be a big hyperfixation of mine when i was younger. and collin's my current comfort character. so this drawing is really just a big ol labor of love when you boil it down. but im serious i think it's a perfect match and it's actually NOT just because i like the two things! i really think he'd be all about them!! so many of their songs are techy and goofy just like him [notably pocket calculator/dentaku, i can imagine him cheerfully humming dentaku to himself while in his office or working on gadgets, maybe even buying himself one of those old TI beepybloop calculators to play and fidget with] and others like the telephone call and antenna i think he'd love, considering his job as a comms operator. i think he'd also love the clinks and clanks in metal on metal
it feels really good to have drawn something i consider finished/with effort. it feels like it's been so long, my anxiety has been horrible and hasn't really let me do anything more than dumb ugly scribbles for the past few months. said ugly scribbles can still take several hours to make sometimes. it's been absolutely terrible but for now i'm happy !!

their first all electronic album + so futuristic and timeless etc but also so beautifully analogue. big clunky synthesisers and knobs and dials and diy electronic drums. the physicality of it all. ..turn the dials with your hands til you find the shortwave end. .. human connection...the muffled voices on the radio ..... global sharing of music and information.... lonely ethereal sounds....... childlike melodies....the emotion that ohm sweet ohm evokes.....those pulses of sound in antenna which are kind of like a loud sleazy reverby guitar but in an electronic style.....the weak/soft vocals which amplify the overwhelmingly human feel to it all...................... i can't articulate it very well but basically i love you radio-activity by kraftwerk.

Kraftwerk, Radio-Activity
Been spinning this a lot lately. I really like what I wrote about this record for the 31 perfect records project back in 2020:
I played Kraftwerk’s “The Robots” for my son Owen when he was 4 years old, and he became completely obsessed with the band. Kraftwerk, it turns out, is perfect music for little kids: they wrote simple, beautiful melodies to repetitive, exciting beats and they sang about real things that kids can understand, things like roads, radios, trains, robots, computers, and bicycles. For a while, Owen and I were going to the record store every week to buy a new Kraftwerk album. Owen never wanted vinyl, he only wanted CDs: He could handle them in his little fingers, and he could skip the tracks easily. Radio-Activity a record that often gets overlooked, but shows Kraftwerk, in some ways, at their most pure: it was their first fully electronic record and it’s a record built conceptually around their weird humor and love of wordplay. (For example, on their previous record, Autobahn: “Fahr’n Fahr’n Fahr’n auf der autobahn” is a pun on The Beach Boys’ “Fun, Fun, Fun”: “fahr’n” means “driving.”) Most concept records fall apart after a few songs, but Radio-Activity holds together the whole way through, from “Radioactivity” (“Radioactivity / is in the air for you and me”) to “Airwaves,” which has surf-rock vibes (“when airwaves swing / distant voices sing”) to my favorite track, “Antenna” (“I’m the antenna / catching vibration / you’re the transmitter / give information”). Several of the song titles are puns: “Radio Stars,” for example, sounds like a song about fame, but it’s actually about pulsars and quasars. And that’s the genius of Kraftwerk: simple enough for a kid to get into, but deep enough for any age. (Of all the bummers of COVID-19, missing Kraftwerk play in Texas this summer is high up there.) Kraftwerk made at least five perfect records, but this is one that deserves and rewards more listens.

Kraftwerk, 2017: "Antenna (3-D Catalogue Version)"
In the 2010s Kraftwerk went on a big tour performing their entire catalog (which was feasible because their albums were all really short); then, because they're so intensely electronic, all they had to do to make an entire new studio album box set was to record the stage audio and filter out the audience.

Radio-Activity - Kraftwerk
The title of Kraftwerk's fifth album Radio-Activity is a play on the term radioactivity and activity on the radio. Songs on this album also discuss things like radio waves propagating and radiation. My favorite track is Antenna.
