No Krabat don't look at the Kantorka and fall in love. Youre supposed to fall in love through her voice only in a display of pure Christian righteousness or something like that!!!

watching the Krabat movie i noticed that the books and tale coming from a region i am somewhat familiar with and the plot of the movie made by a wider crew not just from this region do not correspond to each other in their tone. To a certain degree it even feels like the movie does not understand the dynamic among the characters mostly based on the Otfried Preußler book and the reason might be due to a misunderstanding about local humour.
In the eastern parts of Germany being a bit teasing and rough to each other is a form of kindness and care. Saying something like "kann nicht klagen" (translation: can't complain) is a compliment here but definitivly does not sound like that in most other parts of Germany or the world. Or telling someone they are too weak and that they need to eat more is a way of showing care and showing a friendly way to "solve the problem" while it sounds too direct and crossing lot's of boundaries in other contexts. In the preußler book Krabat starts as the youngest and while not everyone cares about him they don't go out of their way to be mean towards him. The miller mens way of kindness coded in the casual patter or general lack of outright negative comments towards Krabat, which is seen as the polite behaviour here bc it allows the affected to choose their own pace. But that same behaviour is seen as rude outside of the region which possibly lead the depiction of the miller men as unfriendly and uncooperative.
but maybe i am wrong. i would love to talk about this with more people from ostdeutschland.

Can we talk about how confused Krabat must've been when he finally became one of the apprentices and everyone was cheering for him except for his best friend?

List 7 comfort films and tag 7 people!
Tagged by @ladyvampir3 - thank you! <3
The Fox and the Hound, 1981 – what can I say? Disney classics.
Reservoir Dogs, 1992 – a weird choice for a “comfort story”, but the comforting thought is that there was love despite all. That these men were capable of everlasting love and fidelity, despite being ruthless criminals. It's like finding a diamond in the dirt. Gives me hope.
Interview with the Vampire, 1994 – actually I think whoever says this movie “was not queer enough” is an idiot. It's my comfort movie exactly because I am queer. And IwtV was actually a movie where I could see a MLM couple being a family and raising a kid (and their failure as parents wasn't about them both being men, but about all three of them being vampires) and I could also see Claudia, a person figuring out they are trapped in the wrong body. I mean, it's hard to explain why this was a comfort movie, the story did not end well because it was a horror story and they all were vampires, but it was comforting anyway. As I looked at them I felt less alone. I knew someone else was like me.
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, 2003 – it's a really good film and also a really really good book adaptation. Very close to the text of the book in question, but also includes episodes from other books of these series which fit just fine. (That's how a good book adaptation should look like, imo!)
Krabat, 2008 – I keep telling people it's my comfort New Year movie, everyone who knows the plot of the film and/or the book get the joke.
Ideal Home, 2018 – just a nice comedy about an MLM couple adopting a kid.
Klaus, 2019 – OK, that's a real winter holidays comforting movie. It even has a happy end! More or less.
Tagging (but no pressure!):

Tonda is screaming while he's violently dying offscreen. How are they gonna pretend this didn't happen and act like he just fell down the stairs??
#Krabat 2008#I quite like the idea of them being even deeper in denial though so I will let it slide

started watching the 2008 Krabat movie and so far we have Krabat starting a new job and:
everything is very bad.
Krabat is a bad friend and leaves his friends.
The millermen are mean and bad.
Miller and his mill give bad vibes.
it's going great at Krabat's new place of employment.

Die Drei Könige / The Three Kings
Can you guess who's who? ✨
This is the clean sketch! (without the construction lines).
#otfried preußler#krabat#lobosch#art#character design#Illustration#artists on tumblr#drawing#sketch#I dunno what name to tag the third king as. I like to think his name could be#markus#or it could be#baro#like they called him in the 2008 movie. mmmmm#Markus as a reference to Jurij's Krabat you know?#the three kings#I included the sketch because WHY NOT. why not#I know Lobosch's face would be completely covered in black soot but I am NOT going to draw that and you probably know why.#my art#krächzen#I wonder what happened to him; the third king. considering he's a beggar boy in the 17th century EHHH he's probably dead?
