Kamen Rider Build 12 The Scent of Conspiracy| A PersonaRider Review and Response
IN SHORT
Build 12 is a fantastic fulcrum. I feel all this potential energy as things are being shifted and offset and I'm really excited to see how things will shake out.
FULL THOUGHTS
Good golly, this show can really book when it wants to. The writer this year, Shogo Muto , is bringing a very different feel to Kamen Rider with the work he is doing on Build.
(Here is some info on him from a great KR podcast: https://trialofheroes.wordpress.com/2017/10/06/unkamencast-rx-181-thesis-proposal/)
Ryuuga has come into his own as a heroic figure. He is working to help and save people from Faust first and relying on his friends to help clear his name.
Sentou has had his morality tested and learned to do the right thing even in the thick of chaos. He told Sawa he had to act even though the confrontation between Night Rogue and the Touto forces seemed staged. Sentou tried to help Nariaki and was willing to hear him out.
Sawa has come full circle from her deception and betrayal to using her skills only to help take down Faust and expose the Touto government's lies.
Speaking of Sawa, I was dumb struck by her whole fight and flight scene. What was that?! Where did that come from? She was hard as nails. I kept expecting Sentou to jump in and help her, especially in light of how Ex-Aid handled its leading ladies with kid gloves (Ex-Aid I love you, but you deserve the shade). Each time things got worse for her I was sure he would step in and help her, but she just kept going! I think Sentou was supposed to be taken aback as well because she had to tell him MULTIPLE times to start the bike up so they could get away. That was intense! I figured she might get arrested and need to be rescued or left off the show for a bit, but it went entirely the other way. Fantastic!
Can we possibly be done with SMASH for a bit?
CALLING IT..........
Sawa gets put into the opening next week.
Gentoku gets a new suit or just stops acting as Night Rogue for a while.
Namba is paying Blood Stark/Brood Stalk/Brad Stark to be his wild card and we should see more off him running amuck.

Okay. So. Build 4...
... (spoilers below)
I know we’re all panicking (or, some of us are, anyhoo). But it’s episode four, so either they’re fucking w/ us, or the writers need to go back to class on pacing.
My money is that it’s something vaguely similar to Banno and Krim (key word in that sentence is vaguely)--a friend who went off the deep end or something; maybe Souichi got roped into it or something, but he’s not actually supportive of the ideals. To me, this is reenforced by the look of embarrassment and shame on his face when Sento confronts him. He can’t look the kid in the eye, instead looking down. That’s not an ‘oh my plan is foiled face,’ that’s a ‘i was trying to hide this out of shame’ face. Combined w/ what he said before about focusing on the present, though that was clearly a deflection method, also makes me think he’s trying to escape from some sort of darkness in his past, either something he did or let others do.
I don’t want him to be Blood Stark. I know some people do, but I think it’s a little too early to be revealing that one of the main crew is an enemy Rider. Even Ex-Aid waited on that one. Plus, I really love Souichi and really, really don’t want him to follow the long line of shitty fathers KR has had (dance on their graves, Director Kagami, dance on their graves you wonderful dad you!).
We now know he was one of the astronauts who brought the Box back; we know there was at least one other, and I highly doubt a mission to Mars had only two people, so the whole crew is now suspect. Obviously, this means whatever else they found up there will be important. I’m curious if they’re going to find out the other members of the crew in order to investigate this.
Another thing--Misora’s reaction. Her actress kept it pretty vague: either she’s uncomfortable because she knows something, or because she doesn’t, and she doesn’t want her father to be related to the people creating monsters. (also, knew random crack theory--Misora’s bracelet, the fact that she never goes outside... could she be the Kengo of this season? Souichi’s never mentioned a wife... is he even wearing a ring?)
I guess the big question in the end would be, who is creating the bottles for Faust? Could it be Misora’s mother who I just said hasn’t been mentions? Someone else completely?
And when is Ryuuga actually gonna transform?

i was talking about foreshadowing and twists with some people about KR today and some interesting things that we determined from it:
M wasn’t actually Parad to begin with - he was the trauma caused by Parad leaving Emu, which is why Parad wasn’t actually M to begin with and why MBXX could be used against him in a fight. Parad only became M once they rejoined.
They foreshadowed Parad being connected to Emu so fucking far in advance but in so many subtle ways.
As much as we love Build, none of its plot twists have felt really like... surprises? The closest it’s had has been the Blood Stark identity, but that still didn’t even feel like much of a shock. A lot of the mysteries feel like we know the answer already, but they won’t tell us.
Ex-Aid managed to string us on by letting us know that they definitely were connected, but teased us along with the details extremely well.
The rewrites in Ex-Aid weren’t as extensive as I thought by far, although the shortened number of episodes really obviously put a squeeze on plotting.
The only one of these that’s a real surprise to me is the Parad-M-Emu thing, cause it closes up a plot hole pretty neatly.
Anyhow, I’m enjoying Build a lot, but just some food for thought really.
