Chapter 24: Where Vivi's Voice Gets Heard! The Hero Descends!

(episode 121)

Underneath the tower, the battle was raging thanks to some rats in both sides, inattentive to an injured Koza's attempts to stop them. A slow-moving sand tornado had come blasting in, incapacitating both armies. "This dust devil... is your doing, isn't it?" After confronting a smug Crocodile, she turned to the clocktower. "Not yet; if I stop the attack that's scheduled to happen in 15 minutes, I can still reduce the number of casualties!"

"If we do this, the rebellion will stop," Crocodile mocked, "If we do that, the rebellion will stop." He lifted Vivi with a chokehold. "Wake up, Princess. I can't stand how annoying your idealistic theory is." She struggled to breathe. "If you wanna talk about ideals, you have to be able to make them real. You're not qualified to do that!"

Vivi choked, as her legs swung. "I don't care if it's annoying. I won't give up on my ideals either! You could never understand! I'm the princess of this country; I won't give in to someone like you!"

Crocodile frowned, unmoved. "You really have no charm."

'I won't give up,' Vivi thought with determination, "I will... I will... save this country!"

"Vivi!" Cobra exclaimed.

"15 minutes until the Square is blown up," Crocodile reminded, "More and more of the auxiliary rebel forces will gather here. One after another, all without realizing their own fate." Still gripping her neck, he dangled Vivi over the edge of the tower, above the raging battle. "Had you let the Royal Army know earlier about the explosion on the Square, even if there was a panic, you could've saved thousands, or tens of thousands of lives."

"Stop!" Cobra begged. "Please stop it, Crocodile!"

"In the end, your optimistic ideas about saving everything have resulted in the deaths of all the citizens you love so much. From start to finish, everyone in this country... amused me." A flashback of Igaram's demise ran through her mind. "You did a fine job spying on our company for the past two years. But when all is said and done, you guys couldn't stop anything. Stopping the rebellion; saving the kingdom; your worthless ideals only created more unnecessary victims. Let me tell you something: you can't save this country." A tear fell down her cheek. "Goodbye, Princess." His hand and arm suddenly dissolved into sand!

As she began to make the long, fatal drop, Crocodile was laughing pridefully, until a familiar figure rode in on a falcon put a stop to it. "It can't be..."

"Crocodile!!" Luffy screamed furiously through his entrance, now with a barrel tied to his back.

"Luffy-san!" Vivi smiled with relief.

'Straw Hat!' Crocodile glared.

Riding on Pell's back, Luffy dove down under Vivi, and caught her! "Just in time," He muttered.

"Luffy-san! Pell!" She held onto him tightly, as they flew high above the fight. "There isn't much time before the Square is blown up. Everyone... is already down." Tears of hopelessness welled up in her eyes. "My voice... no longer reaches anyone. At this rate, the country will..." She couldn't bear to finish her sentence.

"Don't worry." She looked up at Luffy, who gave an assuring grin. "Your voice is heard by us."

She smiled up at him. "Yes!"

"Again, I'm saying that my injuries are obviously worse than yours," Zoro snarked to Nami, as they sprinted after reuniting.

"You're a man, so stop whining!" She retorted. "My leg is injured! I can't stand! Ahh, I'm fainting; this is bad."

"You're lying!" Fed up, Zoro began to carry Nami on his back.

Meanwhile after landing, an energetic Luffy was spinning his arms rapidly. "Be careful, Luffy-kun," Pell urged.

"I ate lots of meat, so I got tons of blood!" He glared at Crocodile, who was still on the tower. "I won't... lose again!"

Crocodile looked down at him, as the dust cleared. "How did he get out of that quicksand with those injuries?"

"Luffy's alive!"

Vivi turned around at the familiar voice. "Tony-kun!"

"Wh-wh-what?!" Usopp came running up next. "Luffy!"

"Hey, Vivi's here too!" Venus called out.

"See?! See?!" Usopp teared up. "I told you! I knew it!"

"Really?"

"You don't look like someone who knew," Sanji smirked, as Lashes glared down at him.

Vivi was surprised at the new arrivals. "Usopp-san! Venus-san! Sanji-san!"

"Ahhh! What the hell, Vivi-chan?!" Sanji fussed. "You're hurt so bad!"

"Usopp!" He was sent falling down by a bonk to the head. It was Nami.

"Nami-san... Mr. Bushido," Vivi almost whispered, "Everyone's alive."

Zoro was heaving with exhaustion behind the pissed-off navigator. "Who asked you to create a prop for parties?!"

"Hey, you're standing!" Zoro glared.

'Not for long,' Venus seethed.

"Nami-san!" Sanji gushed.

Usopp looked back at her weakly. "It... it did have a powerful attack, didn't it?"

"I'll deal with you later!"

"No, you'll deal with me!" A furious Venus stood between them, and knocked her forehead with her palm. "Couldn't you see he's already injured enough?! Why'd you have to add onto it?!"

"His weapon is a joke! That's why! Now stay out of it!"

"Y'know, speaking of which," Venus smirked knowingly, "I heard something very interesting about it from him."

"And what's that?"

"You owe him for it! And he should charge interest too!"

"Don't talk money to me! I'm in charge of it! He had to have known what he was doing when he made it!"

"Maybe 'cause you didn't pay him!"

"Why I oughta-!"

"I'll oughta you!" Zoro quickly jumped when Venus was about to get physical; he held her back easily, as her limbs swung everywhere. "Let go of me!"

"You seem to have some bad injuries yourself, half-pint. Don't push it."

Nami walked up to Vivi, now without a vengeful obstacle. "Vivi, so what's going on? What's with this dust devil?"

"Yeah..."

After Venus was calm, and fussing over Usopp, Sanji stomped over to a heaving Zoro. "Hey, you jerk! Why is Nami-san injured?! I'm gonna gut you!"

"She's just fine, isn't she?" He retorted. "Besides, it seems you didn't watch after Venus that well yourself. I knew she shouldn't have gone with you."

"You try fighting a crazed ballerina man, and watching over her at the same time!"

She gave them both an unamused look from where she knelt by her best friend. ""Watch after"? I'm not a baby."

"Ahh," Usopp groaned weakly, as she held him up, "Chopper, I have a favor to ask. Will you bury my body in a wasteland?"

Chopper, alongside Venus, panicked when he fell limp. "He's already got fatal wounds!"

"Usopp-kun!" She cried.

"Sorry, guys," Luffy spoke up, gaining everyone's attention, as he now gripped the palace at a high spot, "I lost against him once. So... so... I won't lose again! I'll leave the rest to you!"

"Go already," Zoro smirked.

"If you can't win, who can?!" Usopp exclaimed.

"Kick his sandy ass, Luffy," Venus encouraged.

"I'm gonna put an end... to all this!"

"Yeah!" Usopp cheered, along with Venus, Nami, and Chopper.

"Everyone," Vivi teared up, "I still have... this many friends."

With that, Luffy launched himself up to the enemy, ready to fight again! "You bastard!"
