What people expect Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar to do in his free time :
Pazhu's actual favourite pastime- reading about licentious men and beautiful women who cheat on their husbands .
And then, how long was she going to force him to be celibate, although he was married to her? She kept talking about austerities and vows but had never explained what they really were. It seemed like a ruse, the kind practised by cunning women one read about in stories.
When you were Ahalya, I was Indra. I abandoned my reign in heaven, faced the curse of the rishis and came in search of you. Then I was born as Santanu. I saw you while I went hunting along the banks of the Ganga. You were the Goddess Ganga in human form and I fell in love with you. Then, when I was born as Kovalan in Kaveripoompattinam, you were born as Kannagi. I forgot you for a time because of the maya that covered my eyes.

Coincidences can get creepy…I’m looking at the Silappatikaram (for comfort, I’m corny like that) and Kannagi—-who, for people who don’t know the story, will at the end of the tale tear her own breast off, launch it into the sky, and it will become a meteor that destroys the city that put her husband Kovalan to death entirely unjustly, on false charges—-and she will ascend and become a goddess—-in this passage, it’s earlier, and Kovalan is cheating on her, of course, and she says ‘he said my face was like the moon / he told me, just three days’….

"There is no land like a dream in which husbands buy their wives like water flowing like a dream and soaking in the pleasure."
In the lyrics, Puran explains his dislike of his wife with a beautiful example. For those who want to bathe in the salt water, the pleasure that comes from it will pass like a dream and the whirlpools will drag him without escaping. A person caught in a vortex rarely gets out of it. Similarly, those who want another marriage will get caught in the whirlwind of lust.
Loss of wealth and poverty
"Lust is high
That woman is inside

Without consuming the fruit of the brew

In the lyrics, the beloved wife wants someone else's wife to stay at home
The aphrodisiacs did not eat the fruit of the ripened jackfruit
Thirumoolar says they are the actions of fools. For example Kovalan in Silapathikaram
That he left Kannaki and went to Madhavi and lost all his wealth
It is a known news.
Hypocrisy
"Dementia destroys sleepiness

The Isurumuniya Lovers
The "Isurumuniya Lovers" is a well-known sculpture in Sri Lanka, specifically located at the Isurumuniya Temple in Anuradhapura. The sculpture is also commonly referred to as the "Isurumuniya Lovers" or "Isurumuni Lovers."
The sculpture depicts a couple in a loving embrace. The man is seated, and the woman is leaning against him. Their affectionate pose has led to various interpretations, and the piece is often seen as a representation of romantic love.
"Historians believe the depicted couple in the carving is Prince Saliya, King Dutugemunu’s son and the low caste maiden Asokamala. Their love story is one of the most beautiful tales of romance ever told. It is said that the young prince was so enamored by the beautiful Asokamala that he gave up his throne just to be with her."
Legend of Queen Viharamahadevi
Viharamahadevi, also known as Queen Vihara Maha Devi, was a historical figure in ancient Sri Lanka. She is often revered and remembered for her sacrifice and dedication to the well-being of her people. Here is a summary of the Viharamahadevi story:
Viharamahadevi was the daughter of King Kelani Tissa, who ruled the region around Kelaniya in ancient Sri Lanka. According to legend, Viharamahadevi was known for her beauty, virtue, and compassion.
The story takes a tragic turn when a severe drought struck the region, causing suffering and hardship among the people. In an act of selflessness and devotion to her subjects, Viharamahadevi is said to have made a great sacrifice. She decided to sacrifice herself to appease the gods and bring rain to the drought-stricken land.
The tales of Kovalan and Kannagi
One of the famous love stories in Sri Lankan folklore is the tale of Kovalan and Kannagi, which is prominently featured in the Tamil epic, "Silappatikaram." This epic was composed by the poet Ilango Adigal and is considered one of the five great epics of Tamil literature.
Kovalan, a prosperous merchant, marries the beautiful and virtuous Kannagi. The couple lives a happy life until Kovalan falls in love with a dancer named Madhavi. Mesmerized by Madhavi's beauty, Kovalan becomes infatuated and eventually leaves Kannagi to be with the dancer.
Kovalan's affair with Madhavi is short-lived, and he eventually realizes the error of his ways. He returns to Kannagi, seeking forgiveness and reconciliation. The couple decides to start a new life together.
However, misfortune strikes when Kovalan is falsely accused of stealing the queen's anklet. The king orders Kovalan's execution without a fair trial. Kannagi, upon hearing the news, rushes to the king's court to defend her husband's innocence.
In a moment of despair and anger at the injustice, Kannagi reveals the truth by tearing open her breast and showing the same anklet that Kovalan was accused of stealing. It is revealed that the queen's anklet had been stolen by the royal goldsmith, who had framed Kovalan.
Kannagi, devastated by the tragic turn of events, curses the city of Madurai, where the injustice occurred. Her curse leads to the destruction of the city.

Mythology Alphabet Meme, Kovalan, I for Irresponsible
For @mayavanavihariniharini
He ought not to, he knows.
He is lucky, luckier than most: he has the well-wishes and respect of his community, and wealth enough to live as he pleases, and a wife whose beauty and virtue is beyond compare, so why should he want more? Any other man of his age would congratulate himself and settle down to a life of complacency, and never ever allow himself to so much as wonder what else could be there for the taking. Never ever attempt to be worthy of Kannagi, who never makes so much as the slightest mistake, not even once, whose fame has already spread throughout their neighborhood.
(Yes, he thinks with some relief, it is her, it is her, it was never me.)
Kannagi will be remembered forever, and he, Kovalan, forgotten, unless he does something remarkable: and what more so than winning the heart of the most beautiful dancer in all the city.
(Yes, he thinks. That. That was why. )

the first time i saw my dance teacher's dance sir (who also became my dance teacher) dance was when i had my arangetram. and till this day, i remember his dance.
when u mentioned 'dances of humans' i remembered this, the story he danced was the tale of kannagi, the central character of tamil epic silapathikaram.
she got married to kovalan and then he cheats on her with a dancer madhavi and spends all his money on her ends up poor.
he returns back to her and wishing to reconcile, she gives him her anklet for him to sell in madurai. it was the same time, the queen of madurai got her anklet stolen and king arrested the husband and hanged him.
kannagi comes to court, rips open her anklet and shows her anklet had rubies in them and not pearls (which the queen's anklet had). she uttered a curse that the entire city of Madurai be burnt. the king commited suicide.
and by the words of madurai meenakshi, she calms down and attains mukti.
even though i dd not know the story back then, for some reason, the way my sir potrayed the sadness, grief, anger and the way he fell, all of them just stunned me and i actually understood the story. unfortunately i lost the cd, so i cant view it again :(
And exactly how much time has passed since you sent me this? Silapathikam... You know I was thinking about this story some days back because when i was in grade 6 there were a few lines written in my history book and my sst teacher had told me the story.
What I like the most about classical dance is the portrayal of both the genders by both the sexes. A male can be the nayika and a female can roleplay a nayaka. Though I am more impressed with male dancers portraying female characters because through dances you also get a glimpse of what they themselves feel about the characters

Pulling the example of Kovalan and Kannagi to try to tell your wife how in love with her you are seems to be a bit of an odd (and the complete opposite) example to go for but maybe Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar knows something I don’t?
#Abi reads Ponniyin Selvan#Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar#Nandini Devi#because that really feels like the fastest way to get dumped…

I dunno about your stance in regards to other people's fankids of OW roster but is there a chance to see some interactions or thoughts of your fankids to Ribbonshalos' Fankids?
Well I don’t want to puppet @ribbons-halos‘s ocs, so I guess just thoughts are in order?
Rei’s a little jealous of Valentine because she has Taro. The closest thing she has to younger brothers are the Amari twins and they’re bickering all the time.
Rajeev and Samir would both just be like, “I’m sorry, your mom married who?” to Rohan and just… wouldn’t stop screaming when he repeats himself.
Upon finding out about her existence, Andrea would make a mental note to destroy Honora (Destroying Jack is still first priority though.) She would put it on the little ‘Affirmation of the Day’ Calendar Faustine gave her. (Today’s Affirmation: ‘I will listen to my intuition and trust my inner guide.’)
I think Jaime and Reuben would get on really well, though they’d probably be pretty competitive with each other.
Faustine would definitely have a certain amount of respect for Kovalan, but know to keep him at an arm’s length.
Marti would be weirded out by the McSombra and Widowhanzo kids, tbh. Overwatch and its fight becomes so much of her identity that it’s kind of alienating seeing a reality where you aren’t there, where your guardians aren’t even together. She’d at least be glad to know her guardians made it away from Talon in that reality too, though.
Assuming they would meet in Talon, Seye, Aedan, and Jeremiah I think would have a weird rapport of “We get a lot of shit because people assume we’re only in the positions we are because of nepotism,” but Aedan would probably get on Jeremiah’s nerves because Aedan thinks the whole ‘Reaper’ mantle is overwrought and ridiculous at this point and he considers Reyes ‘Decrepit.’ Seye I think would be more understanding of Jeremiah’s position.
And they aren’t necessarily fankids but I think Chimini and Harper would get along really well, too!

Conceptualization - I
A contemporary retelling of a Sri Lankan folktale that explores the characters' relationships and feelings on a personal level while also using visual elements from film.
Hidden gems of local history that are not widely documented
Modern adaptation of a classic
Despite the fact that it has been years since I took a history class or otherwise learned about it, I can still recall quite a few events, tales, and characters. However, I wanted to see beyond the historical narrative found in textbooks and on stones and walls. In addition to adding common and uncommon illnesses—problems the characters in the story might have had but aren't well documented in history—I wanted to retell a story from the viewpoint of a character. I wish to delve deeper into them personally.
I was more interested in romance and women's fiction and among the tales that immediately came to me was :
1. The legend of Queen Viharamahdevi 2. A story of the lovers of Isurumuniya 3. Kovalan and Kannagi
I was more interested in romance and women's fiction

An engrossing tale of sibling rivalry- Cinema express
An engrossing tale of sibling rivalry- Cinema express
North Madras has been a favourite backdrop for Tamil filmmakers when it comes to narrating gritty, raw crime stories. Debutant Dwarakh Raja also picks this familiar setting to present a tale of two brothers set amidst bloodshed and gruesome murders. The two central characters in this film are named after historical figures — Karikalan (Linga) and Kovalan (RS Karthik). It is the rivalry between…

கண்ணகி / Kannagi This piece was commisioned by @van.xav on Instagram. She wanted a vision of Kannagi that doesn't portray her as a wife or as a symbol of fidelity, purity and chastity, but a woman exercising her own expressive agency. It was interesting to bring to life a vision of Kannagi that does not include the silambu, a thali, or the pottu and depicts her as her own person, rather than Kovalan’s wife who was wrongfully widowed. #leanderscribbles#tamil#தமிழ்#tamilartist#tamilart#tamilculture#tamilliterature#silappathikaram#manimegalai#kannagi#art#artcommission#tattoodesign#tattoo https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf0k6T6hjRO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
