Kosi of Night
Tumblr media
(Written for @flashfictionfridayofficial‘s prompt: FFF61: Wild and Free. Set in the small offshoot of superheroverse. Enjoy!)
The threads in Kosi’s loom snapped to a halt. Kosi did not look up, but the embroidery across her shoulders started to shift, moving lower and thickening, going from delicate flowers to unbreakable coverage over her ribs.
When Kosi finally speaks, she still doesn’t look Siren in the eye. “I trust you have figured out who Nekoma Kohari is.”
Siren shrugs and sits down. “It wasn’t that hard to guess.”
“Reso says I can come home?” Kosi’s voice is tinged with sadness and her fingers twitch once.
“He says you can go back to where you once lived, yes.” Siren says, leaning back to watch the shifting threads across Kosi’s back. They note the goosebumps fluttering along Kosi’s neck where her hair doesn’t cover. “He said specifically that he came because he didn’t really believe you died in the fire.”
“They wouldn’t have found a body, that’s true.” Kosi whispers. They sit in silence for a while and when Kosi next moves, the loom starts moving again, it’s rhythmic thuds more subdued than usual.
“You know, once I would have given anything to be able to go back there.” Kosi says, not looking up from her loom. The pattern forming across the loom has changed, colours darkening. Siren doesn’t look at Kosi’s face.
“You don’t have to. You realise. You can stay and Aniko and Nocte can provide whatever other aid that Reso is seeking.” Siren keeps their voice soft and gentle. “As far as anyone is concerned, Nekoma Kohari died in that fire. None of us know a Nekoma Kohari. We can help Reso and then send him on his merry way.”
“Is it weird that I want to take you up on that?” Kosi looks up and her eyes are wet with tears. “I just- I want to be free. I want to leave Nekoma Kohari dead. Like-“
Kosi puts the loom down gently, then throws her hands across her eyes. “As Kosi- as Kosi, I can do more. I can weave things that have meaning and that make a difference and protect people. I can make things pretty and I can- I don’t know it’s like the entire House of Night right, like I can make beautiful things because they’re beautiful? Because I want to experiment with thread and I know that what I’m doing helps other people? And all in a way that I never could, not as Nekoma. Because I believe in what the House tries to fight for and I like to see how everything I make makes a difference. And it means more, and Nekoma. Past Nekoma would hate that I’m leaving Reso behind. That I’m leaving the rest of my family behind because hey, we all got hurt and scared and just. I don’t know.”
Siren looks at Kosi with the grace of someone who has also had to grow up too fast.
“It’s the difference between surviving and living, huh?” Siren says when Kosi finally stops and just throws her hands up.
“Yeah.” Kosi says after a long pause.
“I’ll tell Reso that we wish him luck in finding Nekoma then.” Siren stands up. Kosi turns to stare at them.
           “But I’m right here.”
Siren quirks an eyebrow. “I only see Kosi.”
They tuck their staff back into their coat with one smooth motion and leap off the railing to land below the balcony on their own balcony.
Kosi sits there for a while before she shakes her head and starts laughing.
             Where dead people live, indeed.
cool lines from the original idea:
“Freedom is more than the ability to choose your prison.”
‘Why do you do this if you’re a doctor?’ ‘I do this because I’m a doctor.”
Reso exhales slightly and removes his ear from the door only to hear, “In this house, if we want to hear something, we ask the people speaking and sit comfortably to listen if we’re invited.”

Siddha Gufa being the largest cave in Nepal it delivers the best experiences of encounter with dark environment, bats chattering, mice moving, and many more. Tumblr media
Trekking to this cave from Bandipur is fascinating and takes about the one-and-a-half-hour hike. Instead, you can also hike uphill to the cave from Bimalnagar. It will take just 45 minutes to reach the cave, but the dirt and stone path is the only way to reach there, which is slippery, so it’s essential to take every step with care. Fantasy Phonoaesthetics 3- Orcish
For part three of my series of conlangs on subverting fantasy language stereotypes, orcs. Now, Tolkien’s orcs spoke a constructed language called The Black Speech that had all the features Tolkien thought were the most ugly. I happen to have different opinions on phonetics than Tolkien, and I’m also a vocal orc fanboy, but the goal here is to subvert the expected sound of orc language so I took some inspiration from Japanese and Korean and tried to make something that sounds kind of loose and flowing.
Phonological inventory
p b     t d       k g                                     i y                u
m         n                                                  e                o
            r                                                           a
          s z  ʃ ʒ   h
w          l         j
I don’t know why I was so into /y/ when I made these but it appears in 3/5 of these conlangs.
Orthography
There aren’t a lot of tweaks needed. /ʃ/ > <sh>, /ʒ/ > <zh>, be careful not to mix up your j and y.
Grammar
When I said I took inspiration from Japanese and Korean, I wasn’t just talking about phonology- there’s also grammatical formality registers. I figured since orcs are normally portrayed as having very rigid social hierarchies it would make sense to encode those grammatically, and it’s fun to come up with formal social etiquette instead of just having them punch each other to show who’s boss.
The humble form is used for addressing superiors, the neutral form is used for equals, loved ones and enemies, and the dominant form is for addressing subordinates. These are marked on the verb as well as on the pronoun.
The language is analytic, though. The basic sentence order is VSO.
Nouns and pronouns
The plural is marked with -ko. There’s also a dual number marked with -kosi. The possessive is marked with -lu.
The pronouns change depending on which formality level you’re using.
               humble                      neutral                   dominant
1s            fea                             de                           zha
1p            afeaka                      dei                           zhaga
2s            loa                            to                             fea
2p            aloana                      toi                            feaka
3s             wei                           hi                             to
3p             aweim                     hili                            toi
Verbs
A negative verb is followed with the word “jeia.” There are two aspects, ongoing and completed- the aspective endings are also marked for formality.
                     ongoing                        completed
humble           -saso                           -samna
neutral           -sa                               -sam
dominant       -sha                              -sham
There are also command and request forms. Command form doesn’t exists in humble speech and request form doesn’t exist in dominant speech, but in neutral speech when speaking in the imperative the choice of which to use comes down to sometimes subtle social nuance. In general, though, the request form sounds more polite.
                   humble               neutral                dominant
command    --------                -shen                   -she
request       -sasem              -sen                     --------
Adjectives
The adjective comes after the modified noun, there’s no other associated morphology.

Posmatrao si me i mislio: Mazna moja, pa ti nemaš toliko godina života. To me znanje prikivalo za zemljicu, a tvoja ljubav dizala u nebesa. Ipak smo prebrzo vozili. Posljednji put, Dance me to the end of love.

Kajal Runa ko sab sach bataye ja rhi thi , idhar Alok ke ghar me sophi kafi paresaan thi.....itni raat ko bhi neend uski aankho se koso door thi..........Alok ne us ghatna ke baad se khud ko ek kamre me band kar liya tha.......sophi kuch kuch to samjh gayi thi lekin ek bar Alok ke muh se wo poori baat jan na chahti thi ki kaun hai wo ladki, kaise janta hai use Alok aur jo kuchh aaj hua wo kyu hua..?
Sophi ek baar fir se Alok ke kamre ke darwaaze par khadi thi..jaane kitni baar chechk kar chuki thi wo lekin har baar andar se band hi hota..is baar khula mil gaya....shayad Alok band karna bhool gya tha.........sophi chupke se andar pahuchi aur darwaza band kar diya......kamre ki lights off thi.....Alok ek chair par baitha kisi gahri soch me dooba tha...ya shayad un yado ke bhawar me gum tha....ek haath me ek chhoti glass thi...........wine se bhari...........aur dusre me ek cigrette.....samne rakhe music system par dheeme volume me song chal rha tha...........shayad uske dil ki aawaz..........
“mere dil se door jakar , kaha kho gaye ho tum,
khusi ki ye baat hai ki ,khus to ho gaye ho tum......
itna bata do raaj dil ko kyu chhupaya,
dil naa milaya..
kyu mera pyaar tumhe raas na aaya,
nazar milayi tum ne dil na milaya...........”
Sophi ne age badhkar system band kar diya........Alok me palat kar uski or dekha aur aankhe band kar li......
“Aaja sophi......... Sorry yaraa....tu bhi soch rhi hogi kaisa hu main...tujhe bhi kya kya dekhna pada.....kahi nhi ghuma paya tujhe mai....apne hi dard me choor........sorry yaraa........” Alok jaise behoshi ke se aalam me bol rha tha..............bahut pee li thi usne.
“Alok ..u ok?? .....itna kyu pee rhe ho......u never drink........now, what happened..........???.....Alok tell me about that girl.........who is she??”
“Sophi...come here.......idhar aa yaar........baith yha....” alok ne sophi ko pas bulaya aur uska haath pakadkar apne pass bitha liya.
“wo ladkiiiii!.......she is my firstttttt love....u know first love....pahlaa pyar...aur ...aur akhiri bhi.......lekin yaar mujhe chhodkar chali gayi......mai..maiii jab pahli bar USA gaya tha tab......tab se mai use pyaar karta hu........us se bhi pahle se........lekin yaar kabhi kaha nhi...socha tha aate hi bol dunga....fir shadi fir bachche...mast banjani life.........” Alok bahut nashe me the isliye dil ka dard bahar aa rha tha.
“Lekin yaar jab mai wapas aaya to wo jaa chuki thi....jaane kahaa?? ..bina kuchh bataye............aur ye bhi bolti gayi ki.......ki..ki....mujhe pyaar nhi karti.........mujhe boli ki bhool jana mujhe........maine kosis kiya use dhundhne ki, par nhi mili.........yaar sophi...tu bata.........kaise bhool jau...itna aasan hai kya bhool jana...........???... nhii mili mujhe.........dil nhi lagata tha yhaa.....USA chala gya mai........lekin ab dekh kismat ka khel.........jab wapas aaya to fir mila diya us se...aur milaya bhi to kis tarah se..””
Alok ne ek aur pack banaya aur gatak gaya...........
“yaar, sophi ,...she is my life........my love......lekin mere papa samjhte hi nhi.......maii...maiii darta nhi hu kisi se..........lekin yaar ek baar wo to bol de..........wo to kahe ki haan mai tumse pyaar karti hu........tumhari hu mai..........mai uske liye sari duniyaa se lad jaunga...sari duniyaa chhod dunga.....lekinn.........you know what??? ......awwkkkkk......she loves me..........bahut pyaar karti hai wo mujhse....i know........lekin manti nhi hai yaar..... aur ab to wo kabhi nhi kahegi aur na hi manegi......”
“Use lagta hoga ki uske is roop me dekhkar mai use nhi apnaa paunga..............kitni nadaan hai wo..........use nahi pata ki muhabbat to dil se ki jaati hai....aaj bhi mujhe wo utni hi pavitr lagti hai........chahe ek Tawaif ke roop me hi sahi......aaj bhi uski aankho me wahi pyaar hai mere liye........aaj bhi whi sadapan hai......sophi, she love me.......bahut pyar karti hai...... ..bas kahti nhi hai......achcha ab tu bata.........nhi to kyu kahti ki mai tumse pyaar nhi karti...........bata kyu kahti......maine to us se puchha bhi nhi tha.........jab mai wapas aaya to mujhe uska ek letter mila kuchh dino baad..........sab likha tha usne........mai samajh gya ki wo bhag rhi hai meri muhabbat se.” Alok ka nasha uske dard me ghulta ja rha tha...
Wo sophi ke sath baitha apne dil ki saara dard nikal rha tha........
“yes........she loves you........Us ladki ke saath jo lady thi, She told me....usne kahaa ki kohinoor jald hi Alok se milegi...mai bhool gayi thi tumhe batana........” sophi ko ab yaad aayi thi Runa ki baat.....
“Usne kaha ??? sach?????...oh, thank u sophi.....mujhe pata tha sophi.......wo jarur mujhse milegi.......”Alok ka chehra pahli baar damak utha ek umeed se....
“Lekin sophi......wo kuchh bolti nhi hai.......kabhi kahe to mujhse.............yar sophi, koi bahut badi baat hai........koi saazish ki gayi hai...mere papa to aisa nhi karenge ...........to fir kisne kiya???......lekin kal jo hua us se saaf lag rha tha ki papa jante hain use......papa kab mile use........aur mujhe kyu nhi bataya ???......puchha maine papa se....lekin gusse me hain na to bataya nhi....pata karunga mai.....kal bhi kosis ki maine pata lagane ki.........par pata chal nhi paya ki wo kaha hai......yaar mai use jaane hi nhi deta.......lekin usne kaha ki wo meri kuchh nhi lagti , sirf ek tawaif hai...........” Alok ki aankhe bhar aayi.......
“Ab mai kya karta........isiliye maine socha ki pahle us vajah ka pta chal jaaye jisne kajal ko kohinoor bana diya, aur shayad tabhi mujhe meri kajal mil jaye..........mai kisi bhi keemat par us sach tak pahuchunga........us waqt mujhe laga tha ki shayad sach much mujhe hi galatfahmi huyi thi, use mujhse pyaar nhi tha, lekin ab jeetni bar sochta hu, har baar lagta hai ki had se jyada muhbbat karti hai wo mujh se....haan kahaa nhi usne ,,...mai bhi nhi kah paya......shayda waqt ne mauka hi nhi diya.............us se pahle hi wo chali gayi............wo kyu chali gayi?? kyu aaj ek Twaif ke roop me hai.....kyu mujhse bhaag rhi hai.....in sab bato ki vajah ek hi hai.....aur mujhe wo vajah pata karni hai.........”
Alok ki aankho me dard tha ,muhbbat thi, aur ek umeed thi.......is baar wo apne pyar ko paane ke liye kisi bhi had se gujar jaane wala tha ...kyuki is baar uski muhbbat use bediyon me kaid nazar aa rhi thi.
Sophi ne uske shano par haath rakha aur Alok uske gale lagkar ro diya......... “is baar mai use nhi jaane dunga sophi....chahe kuchh bhi ho........mai nhi jaane dunga.......”
Idhar train me kajal apni baat kahkar chup ho gyi thi......Runa mano but ban gayi thi....Runa ki aankhe lagatar baras rhi thi aur Kajal ke chehre par ek sakhti thi... sadiyon ki udasi thi.........Runa ne kajla ki or dekha , wo chup thi , ek dam chup......Runa ko aisa lag rha tha ki uska sar phat jayega........
Usne khichkar kajal ko apne gale se laga liya.... ..
“Jeeti rah meri bachchi..........itni badi kurbani.....ohh mere khudaya.....agar aisi hoti hai “Twaif” to khuda se iltiza karungi ki har janm me mujhe tujh jaise ek beti de........ tujh jaisi kisi Twaif ki maa banaye mujhe........kaise kar diye ye sab meri jaan....kaise............??”
“Sab muhabbat hai baji, badi takat hoti hai is muhabbat me ..chhote se chhota insaan bhi badi se badi kurbani de jata hai..........” kajal ne bhi Runa ko jor se gale laga liya......”
kajal ke hotho par dard me dubi ek muskaan fail gayi thi.
Runa jaise hi kajal ke gale se alag huyi , uski nazar saamne khade jumman ke chehre par padi........
Runa ka chehra fakk pad gayaa..........jumman ka pura chehra aansuo me bhiga hua tha......wo ro rha tha......... ek patthar aaj shayad pighal gya tha............Runa ko apni aankho par yakeen nhi hua..........
“jumman ??Tum ro rhe ho........???”

BROTHER SAMSON AND SISTER DEBBIE STORY CONTINUES
May 29, 2014 "Fire of Love"
When I got 2 "mai" lord's place afta d discussion he was fast asleep on d sofa in d parlor, he must have been tired afta d program.."E ku ile o", I said as I opened d door, turning 4m d sofa he slept on, partly opening his eyes, "Uhm, e e kabo..o ma pẹ ẹ kẹ", bro Samson said, closing his eyes again, as I walked 2 d sofa on which he lay sleeping, sat beside his legs, bending 2 remove my pumps. "Sorry. The lady needed some advice on her relationship & u know such could not be given in haste (I did not wait 4 his reply b4 I asked), "se ẹ ti jeun sha?"" ""Igbati mo jeun tan na ni mo ni ki n gbe ehin lele", I did not know when I slept off", bro Samson said turning again on d sofa. "Ounje temi nko?" Debbie asked "I have finished all, "mo ni boya o ti lọ mu oyan die lodo mummy"" bro Samson replied. "But we left 2geda, how do u xpect dat I wil go 2 home without informing u?"Debbie asked as she tried 2 rest her back on d sofa, dis made bro Samson 2 take out his legs 4m her back placing them on her lap.."Ebi lo le mi wonu ile yi o". "Ẹyin ko tile le ba Jesu sọna fun iseju kan pere? Assuming we have not close d service "nkọ"? Bro Samson said. "If we have not finished I will know we have not finished, my system will understand dat & wil have conditioned itself 2 dat", Debbie said yawning. "There is bread and butter in the Freezer, go & refresh yourself with that...and afterwards cook for us", bro Samson said. "Cook for "us" again? Or cook your that is, my food?" Debbie asked. "Ounje ma mu ẹ kárakára loni kẹ...tabi aunti yen ti ko e nifun lo ni?" Bro Samson replied taken off his legs 4m her lap. "Ko ye mi o. I am seriously hungry sha...ebi kì í wonu ki oro miran wọ ọ, let me get the worms in my intestines somethings to hang on to before I cook our food" Debbie said as she stands up going to the freezer...soon she gets to where d freezer was and opened it "kran-in" was d sound heard when it opened. "E gbe awon appetizer yen wa o, ebi npa emi na o", Bro Samson said, as he puts on d paid tv. "Ha-Ha-Ha. I hope we will not take your intestine to the Pacific Republican, ounje yin ti fe poju o", Debbie said. "Ife lafe fi ba ẹ jẹ ẹ. It is you who said we shd be showing our love", bro Samson enthused. "I know u will say dat", says sister Debbie as she closed d freezer, puts the bread, butter and water on a tray carrying them to where brother Samson sits. "Okay. Ki a ma ma lo ifẹ mọ abi?" asked Bro Samson. "I did not say dat...let brotherly and sisterly love continue so says me, Debbie" as Debbie puts d food on d table, slicing the bread with knife and applying butter on its surfaces. "Iwo tebi npa ju lo yẹ ki o kọkọ jẹ nibe", bro Samson said as he puts d sliced buttered bread into sister Debbie's mouth. "But you have not blessed dis food "mai" lord" Sista Debbie talking in between d chewing meal. "Eyin ko nigbagbo bi woro irugbin oka baba, ti eyin ba nigbagbo ni e o mo wipe mimu ti a mu dani yen gan o ti di yiyasimimọ...whatever I touched is sanctified", bro Samson said. "Yes sir", replied sista Debbie as she continued with the application of the butter on d bread. "But for you not to be annoyed, "Oh Lord, sanctify and bless these foods, including d one in my inestimable jewel's mouth & those already swallowed in Jesus name. Amen". Bro Samson said as he tucks d remaining bite of sister Debbie in his hand into his mouth. "Eyin laiye yin. Uhm! Oro yin gan ko ye mi mọ", Debbie said. Bro Samson talkin as he grinds d bread with his teeth "instead of you to say "amin", u are still talking" "Emi na ti se amin sinu ni", Sis Debbie said, as she also puts a sliced bread in her mouth. "Mi o gbọ amin yen. Didnt u hear me when I was praying?" bro Samson said. "O da, Amin loruko Jesu fire!" Sis Debbie said. "Why did u add "fire", you want 2 set dis place on fire ni?" bro Samson asked. "Yes o. I want dis place 2 always be on fire of love. I want "mai" lord and I to always be on fire of love, anytime, anyday, anywhere", Debbie adds trying to drink water. "Alright. Fire of love. Love of fire...nay, nay, Fire of Love is it. And I see a farmer, clearing a virgin land, afta d clearing he sets d grasses on fire, afta which he made new ridges, in which he planted d seeds. "Which seeds are these?" I heard someone asking. "They are d seeds of love, dat will produce fruits of love. Afta a While d seeds germinated & started growing, d farmer paid attention to d planted seeds, weeding out other plants beside it, those weeded out plants were what will make d plants malnourished while fighting with d plants 4 d nutrients in d soil..."bro Samson has stopped eating now, fixing his gaze on his love-sister Debbie-who by now is resting her back on a chair opposite bro Samson as dey continue 2 eat, she, Debbie was also looking at her love & gem, obviouly in love, obviously admiringly, smiling, "in love I love u, in your love you will find me", Debbie thought within her...as she continued to listen to his love and lord "...the farmer said, "those weeded out plants are doubts, inexpression, anger, bitterness, bickerings, not-open to each other, insincerity, communication gaps etc" These are d weeds dat could hamper & prevent the development and growth of those seeds of love and ultimately leadin to non-productiveness of the plant and ofcourse making the farmer's labour to be in vain..."When dis plant started bringing forth fruits, it brings them forth in hundreths..bringing forth money 2 d farmer, as well as nourishin the souls and bodies of those who ate it...Everyone who eats out of this fruit of love asks for more, because love is like honey, which when any1 tastes will ask for more; love is like energy drink, which keeps one active and alert; love is like fire, which when ignited consumes the lovers hearts and flesh; love is like deodorant, which when put on smells nice; love is like air, which living things cannot do without; love is like rail, that is specially designed for a particular transport; love is like cloth that covers man's nakedness;...uhm! As fire does not have reservation for its igniter, so does love have not respect for its igniter, "ani", so does love have no respect for any, for as it consumes the hearts of younger ones in love, so does it consume the hearts of the elderlies in love...LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! By love we live, by Love we have our being...As we, Debbie and Samson continued in love, we will be refreshed daily, becoming younger than our ages...Fire of love! May it not be put out from amongst us in Jesus name. Amen" "Amen". I have always suggested that you become an actor but u are yet to consider my suggestion" Sista Debbie said.. "Uhm!" Easting the bread again...gulping down water..."and how will you feel seeing me romancing somebody else in the movie or on stage "jare""? Bro Samson asked. "Indifferent" Debbie replied. "Indifferent? Really?" Bro Samson asked. "Yeah, Yeah. Thus is bc I know its your profession" Debbie said. "It is easier said than believe. Orisa je ki npe meji obinrin awon agbalagba wipe kosi", said bro Samson. "Se orisa jen pe meji okunrin na wa ni?" Sista Debbie replied. "I cannot answer that", bro Samson said. "You cannot answer because u know there is none", she said, "Your proposal is good. I have read thru it. I will submit it to the management for scrutiny", bro Samson said, "That will be better. That is good of you. I do not wish to see a star rot away in the closest", Debbie said. "May God bring us to the limelight in Jesus name...and may our glories come out of its hidden closets in Jesus name". Bro Samson prayed. "Amin re po." Sista Debbie replied. "Ejowo gbogbo eleyi ti A n so dun, nje ji wa ni a fe je bayi?" bro Samson asked. "But, sebi e ni e ti jeun lekan ni?" Sis Debbie asked. "Do u xpect me 2 have eaten?" Bro Samson asked. "I would not know", She replied. "O dara. Emi o ti jeun o. I was waiting 4 your return until i slept off where u find me", bro Samson replied. "Mo ro wipe e ti jeun ni o...okay. What do u want to eat?" sis Debbie asked, clearing d table. "Delicious meal. Because I want to look robust, younger and fresher before you leave 4 schl again", bro Samson said. "Even if I resume, dont I come home 4thnightly?" sis Debbie asked. "Yeah you do, but dats different 4m when u r around me now, it is much more different 4m when we are seeing ourselves regularly" bro Samson said. "Dont tell me dat u are already "missing" me...dat's why I said let us solemnize everythin b4 now, but u said nay, nay, e o ma mu mora ni o", sista Debbie said. "It is for our future. Se iwo na o ti ma "miss" mi ni?" Bro Samson asked. "I miss u daily. Particularly when u aint by me, when I get home @ night I always pray that d hours be fast-forwarded so dat d day breaks quickly so dat we see, so my missing u is an independent integer from my moving to school" she enthused. "Ironically the hours must be fully expended b4 d day breaks forth. And I think the "missings" is an assorted relationship", bro Samson said "Eyin le mo. Whether assorted or independent, "missing" na missing", Sis Debbie replied. "Worry less love, ohun to ntan ni eegun odun. Everything will soon be coupled" bro Samson said. "I pray it be soonest in Jesus name." Sis Debbie prayed "Amen" bro Samson replied as sister Debbie clears the table, takes the used utencils to the kitchen and so as to start the cooking..

The love triangle 2
The only patient inside the store was just stepping out when we got there with Onome. Mama Ariyo stood sat on the other side of the wooden counter inside – a rotund woman with a complexion as black as night. Packets and bottles of varying shapes and sizes were neatly arranged on shelves directly behind and around her. “Shey kosi wahala?”She asked in Yoruba after we exchanged quick greetings; surprisingly she’s got a very warm and gentle tone for a woman that huge. I bent over the counter and explained to her my present predicament and what I expected her to do for me. “I will like to ask her a few questions in private before we know what to do next”, Mama Ariyo said to me, jerking her head towards Onome who sat cowering on the only bench at the corner. I whispered to Onome that she should go ahead and see the chemist while I wait. Onome got to her feet and gave me her handset and a bunch of keys to hold. Mama Ariyo showed her the way and they both disappeared into an inner room. Now I cannot explain why I did it, but as soon as Onome went off with Mama Ariyo I decided to go through the contents of her handset while I waited. My curiosity took me straight to her message and I quickly noticed there’s been a constant exchange between her and a character she’d lovingly tagged as ‘My heart’. I settled for the one I supposed was the most recent communication between them and I was shocked at what I saw. I’m not hapy wit u, Stev. U’v bin avoidin me since afta i told u i’m pregnant. We beta do somtin b4 my aunty notice anytin. I alone knw wot i went tru d last time it happened. Pls call me ASAP. Onome. I glared unbelieving at the screen of the handset. Onome had been romantically involved with some other guy all along? The fraudulent little whore! I swore under my breath. At that instant, the door that led to the inner room opened and Mama Ariyo came out, followed closely by Onome. The liar looked so innocent and afraid in a deceitful way. “Your bill is four thousand, seven hundred naira only”, Mama Ariyo was saying to me. But I wasn’t even listening. Onome stopped dead in her stride as she approached me. Her gaze dropped to the handset in my hand. She must have sensed the brewing trouble. I returned her gaze with fire in my eyes, breathing heavily like a vexed bull. “Please, let me explain”, she cried as I turned to walk away. End.
