Korrasami Secret Santa 2020
This is my contribution to the Korrasami secret Santa event! I got @korderoo, who requested the fic prompt “Korrasami attends a wedding together and contemplates the direction of their relationship.” Below the read more link is a mini fic I wrote about that very situation!
I hope you like it! Happy holidays!
Future Vision
Asami slid down Oogi’s massive tail and gratefully accepted Korra’s extended hand, using the leverage to help her stand. She shifted to interlace their fingers as they walked over to join Toph, Katara, Tenzin, Pema, and their stir-crazy band of airbender children, who had started up a spontaneous game of air scooter tag. Asami took in their surroundings. Zaofu was bustling with people carrying flowers, decorations, chairs, musical instruments, and various random objects she couldn’t identify at a glance. Lin Beifong appeared out of the chaos, caught sight of them, took what Asami could only assume was a calming breath, and came to greet them.
“Welcome, everyone,” she said in a deadpan voice, “Su is busy helping Opal so she put me on guest greeting duty.”
“Well don’t sound so happy to see your mother,” Toph said.
“I am happy to see you, Mom,” Lin said, “How was your trip?”
“Oh, just great,” Toph replied sarcastically, “I love being a million feet in the air with no earth to help me see.”
Lin frowned and sighed.
“Come on, Toph,” Katara said, nudging the former Blind Bandit with her elbow, “It’s a special occasion, lay off the sass.”
“Fine,” Toph conceded, “I’ll play nice, but only because I don’t want to ruin Opal’s big day. She’s a sweet kid and she went through a lot to get where she is.”
“On that note,” Lin said, turning to Korra, “Su wanted to talk to you, something about going over your officiant speech and showing you Opal and Bolin’s vows.”
“Sounds important,” Korra said.
“You go talk to Su and I’ll take our stuff to the room and help everyone get settled,” Asami said.
Korra leaned in and gave her a quick kiss.
“Thanks, Asami,” she said, giving one of her signature crooked grins and gently squeezing Asami’s hand before letting it go, “See you later!”
Asami waved Korra off and went along with the rest of the group to the designated guest lodging. She helped Pema carry the many bags their family had brought so Tenzin could help Katara and Toph and then it was time to take her own things, along with Korra’s, to their room.
It was a nice room with a big bed, a couple of chairs, a small bookcase, and a large wardrobe. She opened the double doors of the wardrobe and hung up the dresses they had brought to wear to the wedding, closing the doors again as she turned to set the bags down. She took out her nightgown so she could set it on a chair for later. Should I set out Korra’s pajamas too? she wondered. It wasn’t something Korra normally did but she might appreciate the gesture. Asami reached into Korra’s bag and took out her pajamas, laying them out carefully next to her own. Seeing them side by side felt right somehow.
Not for the first time, Asami thought about what it would be like if she and Korra were married. Even during Korra’s three-year absence, when Asami was first coming to terms with her feelings, she had thought about the kind of future they might have if Korra ended up feeling the same way. At that time it had seemed like pipe dream, one she had not dared to hope much for, but now that they had celebrated their first anniversary as a couple, they lived together full-time, and they were here in Zaofu on the eve of their friends’ wedding it seemed like a significantly more attainable possibility. Wow, she thought, This wedding business is really getting in my head.
She decided then and there to talk it over with Korra when she got the chance. One of Asami’s favorite things about their relationship was how they were able to talk things out. If one of them had something on her mind the other would hear her out and offer support. So why do I feel kind of terrified to bring it up?
******************************************************************************
Korra smiled softly as she picked up the pajamas Asami had laid out for her. Asami was always doing sweet little things like that and Korra had long since picked up on the fact that it was one of the main ways Asami showed she cared. Korra finished changing and put her clothes from that day into her bag before joining Asami on the bed.
“Thanks for setting these out,” she said.
“Of course,” Asami said, pausing for a moment, “Are you nervous about tomorrow?”
“A little, but Su made me run through my speech about a million times so I think it’ll be all right,” Korra said.
“I’m sure you’ll do great, and I’m glad you’re able to stay so calm. Bolin is probably freaking out right now,” Asami said.
“Oh, he definitely is. I’m honestly still wrapping my head around the fact that we’re here for Bolin and Opal’s wedding though,” Korra said, “It feels really weird that someone in our age group is old enough to get married. When did that happen?”
Asami laughed, the sound filling Korra with a familiar sense of warmth.
“I know what you mean,” she said, “A lot’s happened in the past few years but it still feels like we were just a bunch of kids not that long ago.”
“Right?”
Asami grew quiet, a nervous expression taking over her face and her eyes shifting down as she thoughtfully ran her thumb over the end of her nightgown’s soft belt. She took a deep breath, cleared her throat, and glanced up at Korra.
“Have you ever thought about getting married?”
Korra gave a single shocked laugh that came out more like a cough. She could feel her cheeks growing red as she fumbled for a response in the deafeningly awkward silence that followed.
“Well, uh, yeah,” she managed, “I’ve thought about getting married in the future,” she paused, gathering her thoughts, “But to, tell you truth, after everything with Amon and Unalaq and Zaheer and Kuvira, after having to leave for three years and completely restart my life, I’ve really been enjoying our relationship the way it is.”
Asami reached over and took Korra’s hand, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“I’ve been enjoying our relationship too,” she said, painting a broad grin across Korra’s face.
“I mean, don’t get me wrong,” Korra said, “I want to get married some day,” she added, placing her other hand on top of Asami’s, “I love you more than anything. You’re brilliant and badass and kind. You fill my life with so much joy. You always know how to make me laugh. You were there for me when I couldn’t be there for myself and I want to be there for you just as much. I want to support and protect you and I’d love to spend the rest of my life with you, but I tend to rush headfirst into things and I don’t want to do that here. I care about you too much to rush this. I want to take my time and do things right, so is it okay if we just stay like this for a while?”
Asami gave a warm smile that radiated right into Korra’s heart. She reached up her free hand and gently cupped Korra’s cheek.
“Of course,” she said, “It’s not a race. I’m definitely not going anywhere. We can take things at our own pace and enjoy our time together.”
She leaned in and kissed Korra deeply, sending sparks down her spine.
“I love you, Korra,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
“I love you too,” Korra said, shifting so her forehead was resting against Asami’s.
“Just out of curiosity,” Asami murmured, a mischievous glint in her eye, “When we do get married, what about kids?”
Korra’s cheeks grew hot again.
“Um”

my secret santa gift for kkoraki! fluff and metaphors and smooches woo
Trailblazers. Korra gets lost in the woods and Asami gives her some direction after (minor) teasing. set after Korra and da krew save republic city from kuvira.
posted on ao3 here
ah sorry it's late I got the date wrong lol
Part I: trust falls
Snow crunched under Korra’s feet as she paused by the trail marker, knocking slush from the treads of her boots. She definitely wasn’t lost—she’d been following someone’s foot prints along the trail for the past four hours. It was going to lead somewhere. She was sure of it.
Korra sighed, watching her breath puff up into the snow-laden branches above her before hitching her backpack up, water bottles and cooking supplies clinking together. The footprints seemed about her size—she’d gotten bored after a few hours and had tried to match her feet to the person’s long strides, almost slipping in the process. They were taller, probably some mountain man out hunting before—
She paused, foot poised, and looked around. Ahead of her, the trail spilled out across the ridge, winding along, but the tracks just stopped. Huh. Korra back-tracked a few steps, placing her feet in the last footprints, her body facing toward the stream rushing past below the ridge.
“Hello?”
The forest was quiet, the type of muffled silence that only came with a fresh blanket of snow. A hog squirrel scurried up a branch, sending a rain of snow to the ground before the forest went still again.
“Is anyone there?”
Korra closed her eyes, inhaling deeply like Jinora taught her, feeling the forest around her. The stream below her flowed freely, a few branches fluttered in the breeze. Korra stood up taller, concentrating harder. A twig snapped, soft footsteps coming closer—
“Korra?”
She whirled around, slipping on the snow underfoot, the weight of her backpack pulling her down with a heavy oof. Snow buried itself under her shirt as she lay there, staring up at the trees above her.
A concerned face popped into her field of vision, a stray lock of hair dangling into Korra’s face. Hands were grabbing hers, hauling her up, brushing snow from her clothes.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah.” Korra’s cheeks flushed as she shook snow from her pants. “Thanks.”
“No problem.” Asami smiled, watching Korra struggle to empty the snow from inside her hood. “What are you doing this far out here?”
“Well, I was camping out. The trail was supposed to take me over the ridge and back into—what are you doing out here?
Asami grinned, hitching her own backpack higher up on her shoulders. “Were you lost?”
“I—no.” Korra brushed past Asami, marching towards the trail.
“I think the Avatar was lost.”
“I was not!”
Asami laughed, jogging to catch up with Korra on the trail.
Part II: should we stop and ask for directions?
“Do you know where you’re going?”
Korra stood in the middle of the clearing, turning around slowly.
“That’s Republic City,” she said, pointing towards the miniature buildings nestled between the mountains overlooking the bay. “So…we’d have to be…”
Asami put her knapsack down, her back to Korra as she continued to mutter about directions. A small wooden sign stood pushed back from the trail and she brushed the snow off, reading the worn letters underneath.
“Let’s go this way.”
Korra looked up, startled from her ranting about the sun’s angle. She caught Asami’s eye, her cheeks dusted a cute pink.
“Are you sure?” she asked. She looked a little pitiable, with snow melting her hair in strands across her forehead and her knit hat drooping off to one side. Asami almost felt bad about teasing her—almost.
“I grew up with my dad taking me on hikes through here.” She gave Korra a wink before setting off down the trail. “Trust me.”
Part III: it doesn’t end in frostbite
“So did you talk to your dad again?”
Asami glanced over at Korra for a moment before looking back down at the trail. Her breath came out in a puff of white and she drew her coat in tighter against her body.
“Yeah.”
They walked along in silence for a while, their boots crunching in the snow underfoot. Korra chewed her lip, wondering if she should press further. Asami seemed to be the only one who knew where they were going—getting her worked up enough to walk off in a huff would probably end in frostbite and disaster. Korra hadn’t really figured out how to bring up the subject again since their three year reunion.
“I just don’t know what to think still. So I went for a walk.”
“Just a short walk through subfreezing temperatures and mountain slopes.”
Asami was quiet and Korra laughed, bumping her shoulder so they both tripped off the trail.
“Hey. I understand about getting away.”
Part IV: trust falls, take two
“We’re camping here?”
Asami dropped her bag on the ground, clearing off a patch of snow with her boots. “It’s as good as anywhere. And the sun’s going down.”
Korra stood back for a moment, watching Asami clear a small circle away for a fire pit. Small strands of hair fell away from her ponytail and hung in her face, blocking her expression.
“Okay—does this look good? How about you collect firewood—”
“Wait, let’s make it a little bigger.”
Korra bent the snow out of the way, clearing off a patch big enough for a large fire and a place to sit. She crossed her arms, admiring her work before something large and heavy hit her square in the face, tipping her off balance.
“You let me clear all that snow without saying anything?”
Korra blinked up at Asami, cold seeping into the fabric of her pants. She stood over her, hands on her hips, hair hanging wildly out of her ponytail.
Korra pressed her lips together, trying to stop the smirk fighting its way on her face. Asami narrowed her eyes, glowering down at her, and Korra lost it, bursting into laughter while Asami stood over her confusedly.
“I’m sorry,” she gasped, fighting to get the words out over her laughter. “Your face—you look so—”
She rolled over, holding her knees to her chest to try to hold in her laughter. “I’ve never seen you look so—you look so not put together—”
Korra shrieked as a fresh wave of snow hit her in the face, shooting up to her feet. “Why would you—what was that for?” she spluttered, snow falling from her face. Asami stood across from her, a smirk on her face, snowball in hand.
“Since you seem like you wanted some help moving the snow—hey!”
Korra grinned as she brought her cold fingers under Asami’s neck, cackling as the shock wiped the smirk off Asami’s face.
“Get off!”
“Not after what you did!”
Asami elbowed her in the stomach and she doubled over, faking a cough before bending a layer of snow in Asami’s face. She careened backwards, catching Korra by surprise as they both fell in a heap on the ground.
“I can’t believe you.”
Korra rolled over, melting snow off her coat and flicking the water in Asami’s face. “You started it.”
Asami sighed, letting her head fall back into the snow in defeat. Korra lay there for a moment, watching Asami’s chest rise up and down. The sun had really start to set now, casting shadows across the snow in dark patterns. Wind blew across their tiny clearing and Korra buried the tip of her nose in her coat, feeling Asami shiver underneath her. Korra looked up, catching Asami watching her lips.
She sat up, rubbing warmth back into her hands.
“We should start the fire.”
Part V: asami’s waited (eighty) four years
“Korra?”
She rolled over in her sleeping bag, facing Asami’s voice in the pitch black of their tent.
“Why did you come out here?”
Korra closed her eyes, feeling her chest rise and fall as the silence stretched on. She thought about the three years she’d spent away from the city, the months she’d taken to make sense of everything alone. It hadn’t really worked by herself—she didn’t know why she’d come out here alone after finally taking care of Kuvira. She didn’t know what she was looking for anymore. Korra opened her mouth, willing the words to come to her, but nothing came. Instead, warm hands skirted over her wrist, fingers tangling loosely in her own.
“I don’t know why I’m out here either.”
Korra gave Asami’s fingers a tentative squeeze, cautious with this new touch.
“Sorry.” The wind whistled outside their tent, the canvas fluttering in the night. Korra kept quiet, her tongue heavy in her mouth. “I don’t know if you…”
Asami’s hand was pulling away and Korra squeezed tighter, her stomach flipping over in her throat.
“I’m sorry I didn’t come back for so long,” Korra breathed, letting the words hang between them. “I didn’t know how to do this when I didn’t feel—right.”
“It’s okay.”
Asami shifted closer, her fingers skating over the goosebumps on Korra’s skin. “I’m glad I can do this after the city is safe again. Thanks to you.”
Korra sat up in her sleeping bag, her eyes trying to find Asami’s in the pitch black of the night. Her hand still held on to hers, anchoring Korra in the dark.
“You say that like you knew we were going to fix everything.”
“I did know that.” Asami’s voice sounded so sure and steady in the dark. “I believe in you.”
Korra let her hand fall against the sleeping bag, staring blankly out in the tent.
“Korra?”
She leaned down suddenly, pressing her lips sloppily against Asami’s. In the dark of the tent she missed, somehow getting the side of her nose instead. Asami’s laughed, locking her hands loosely around Korra’s neck and pulling her down again, kissing her properly on the lips.

It's snowing and there was a lot of Korrasami today, so I'm posting Windjamm's gift now! Hooray! Also because I really like this picture.
AO3
Summary: It wasn't exactly love at first sight, but it was near enough.
~
They spoke a grand total of one time before Korra was convinced that she was in love with Asami Sato. They took the same boring class together and she spent the majority of it staring off into space and doodling on her notes. As soon as the professor dismissed them, she was out the door like a rocket, headphones stuffed into her ears before anyone else was even out of their seats. On that particular day, she was slow to untangle her headphones. Frustrated, she paused at the top of the stairs to pull them apart. "I really like your jacket" Korra's head snapped up, surprised to find Asami Sato, the pretty girl who sat in the front row, smiling at her. "Thanks" Korra mumbled in return, watching the girl descend the steps ahead of her. And that was it. She was hooked. From then on, it was all she could do not to stare in abject fascination. Asami doodled too, but her drawings were of complicated machines and her nails were often painted soft pastel shades. Her outfits were always impeccable and she always sat like a CEO at a board meeting, confident and upright.
Korra started looking for things to compliment. But each time she'd shoot it down, finding it to be unsatisfactory. Then one day, the last day before the holiday break, Asami wore a large comfortable looking coat and Korra saw her in. She wanted to crawl inside it and never leave. The professor dismissed the class and Korra took her time, choosing instead to leave just after Asami. She pulled out her headphones and stuck one in the ear farthest from the other girl as she began to walk alongside her. Mustering up all her courage, she turned to her. "I really like your coat" she commented, trying not to seem like she spent all of the previous class deciding what to say. Asami smiled back. "Oh thanks! You know, I hope this won't sound weird, but my roommate and I talk about you sometimes" Korra's eyebrows shot into her hairline. "Oh?" "Yeah, we always talk about how nice you dress. And I keep telling her how scared I am to ask you where you got your jacket" the taller girl admitted. Korra flushed at the compliment. Nobody ever told her that she dressed nicely. "Oh, thank you. I think I got it at Hot Topic" "Must have been before it got weird" Asami joked. Korra laughed. The conversation flowed and she was surprised. Certainly, she had hoped it would, but things never go as hoped for anyone, much less her. Eventually, her building came into sight, dusted lightly with the beginnings of falling snow. She took a deep breath and let herself hope once more. "Hey so, my friend is having this Christmas party tomorrow night before everyone goes home for break. Would you want to come?" she offered, only just managing to keep her voice steady. Asami smiled at her. "That sounds really cool. Here-" she pulled a pen from seemingly nowhere and grabbed Korra's hand, writing on her palm, "this is my phone number, text me with the time and address and I will see you there" She clicked the pen off with a quick kiss to Korra's cheek. The shorter girl watched her leave, stupefied. Her lips curled upward, excited. --- "Oh this is a disaster. Why did I invite her?" Korra fretted as she haphazardly dumped a bag of chips into a bowl. Mako chuckled and gave her back a pat. "Relax, will you? She sounds really into you and Bolin won't embarrass you too much" he tried to comfort her. As if called by the mention if his name, Bolin popped his head in the doorway. "Yeah, don't worry about me at all. We're gonna have mistletoe everywhere. If anyone's gonna embarrass you, it's you" he assured with an exaggerated wink. Korra scowled. "Good thing that wasn't helpful at all" The doorbell rang and the party was quickly in full swing. Their friends - and definitely a couple people they didn't know - were all clad in the customary ugly sweaters and seemed to be having a good time, drinks and snacks in hand. Korra was somehow the closest to the door when Asami arrived. She opened the door and grinned. "Hey! I was beginning to wonder if you were lost" she teased, stepping aside to let her though. "Nope, just had a little trouble finding an ugly sweater. I had to borrow this from a guy down the hall. How's it look?" She struck a pose and Korra couldn't believe how good she made it look. Was there nothing this girl couldn't walk down a runway? The sweater was a shade of deep red and overlarge, accentuating her long legs. Her inky black hair was pulled into a loose ponytail and her whole outfit made Korra want to drag her to bed for a cuddle. But that was rushing things. Really rushing. "You look incredible" Asami fought the smile but not the blush. Before they knew it, they both had drinks shoved into their hands - probably courtesy of Bolin who waggled his eyebrows at them as he left them alone - and they talked happily.
Korra learned that Asami was double majoring in Engineering and Business in preparation for taking over her father's company, and because she really loved engineering. She learned that Asami liked to play with the ends of her hair when she was really into the topic and the she studied some form of martial arts. Her love of engineering transferred over to other vehicles like motorbikes and cars. She learned that her eyebrows would dip together when what Korra said was interesting. Her passion for cars led her to the unique hobby of racing. "And it's not scary?" Korra asked, concerned. Asami shrugged. "A little, I guess. But that's part of the fun; if you aren't about to die it just doesn't hold the same appeal" "Because what's the point of anything if there's no possibility of death from it?" "Exactly, go hard or go home-" An arm was suddenly slung around Korra's shoulder and she found and grinning Bolin leaning off her. "It's your turn for karaoke, best friend" he revealed, grinning cheekily at her. Her face screwed up in terror. "Oh please no, Bo. I begged you not to" "Pfft, what kind of party doesn't have karaoke?" He started dragging her towards the karaoke set up, clearly refusing to take 'no' for an answer. "A good one" She shot an apologetic look to an amused Asami. The microphone was shoved into her free hand and she sighed as the music came on. She had never been a good singer and the whole thing was horrifying, really, so she figured she should dance along just as horribly. Her friends clapped and sang along, enjoying her humiliation. The second the song ended, she shoved the mic into a hysterically laughing Mako's chest and walked sheepishly back to Asami. "Wow I didn't know you were so talented" "I know right? I should have a record deal. This is ridiculous" Asami giggled and schooled her face. "Definitely. World famous, calling it now" she teased. Korra laughed and scratched the back of her head. "I'm sorry that you were subjected to my horrible singing" "No it was really enlightening" "'Enlightening'?" "Yeah, now I know never to take you to any company galas. Your dancing is so much worse than your singing" Asami teased. Korra liked the banter, it was natural and easy with the taller girl. She opened her mouth to say say so when Bolin's loud voice boomed through the house. "Everybody under a mistletoe has to kiss right now! Do it! Mako come here!" "What? No! Stop!" Both she and Asami looked upwards and found a small sprig of plant tacked awkwardly to the ceiling above them. Not one to hesitate on most things, she dove forward and pressed a light, shy kiss on dark red lips. She intended to pull away immediately to avoid making it awkward, but Asami caught the back of her neck and deepened the kiss. Surprised, but by no means disappointed, Korra went along with it happily. Asami was assertive but gentle and Korra wanted to kiss her all night long. When it finally came to an end, they were both breathless. Korra stared at her with half-lidded eyes. "This is probably a little late but do you want to go out sometime? I mean, out to somewhere that isn't a weirdly early Christmas party" she asked in a rush. Asami snorted and pulled her into a hug, resting we chin on Korra's hair. "I would love to"
