빵 터지다 ~ to burst out laughing (빵- bread) 빵- the sound produced when an object explodes, bursts 터지다- to explode, burst, pop This is a Korean slang. I try to think of it being similar to how we say “I’m dying/ I’m dead” when something is really funny. Ex: if you show your friend a funny gif you can say “빵 터지다” - thats so funny, I’m dying (of laughter), I’m cracking up 빵 터졌어- I’m cracking up, I’m laughing 저의 아빠가 빵 터졌어요- my dad was laughing/cracking up 그 드라마 보고 빵 터졌어요- that drama made me burst out in laughter Pic: remember this phrase by picturing bread exploding hahahaha 🥖🍞💥💥 #korean #korea #koreanlanguage #koreanstudy #koreanlearning #language #koreanwords #koreangrammar #koreansoul #koreansoulstudy #studygram #studyinspo #한국어공부 #한국어 #한국말 #한국말공부 #studygram #studyingkorean #learnkoreanlanguage #koreanvocab #koreanvocabulary #koreanaesthetic #koreans #koreanculture #koreangirl #한국어배우기 #한국어를 (at Koreatown) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8xLfhsBXgP/?igshid=fmllnv2rupem

흑인의 목숨은 소중하다 ~ black lives matter; black lives are precious ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 흑-black 흑인- black person, African-American 목숨- life (목- neck, 숨- breathe) 소중하다- to be precious, valuable, dear, priceless In addition to 목숨, I have also seen the use of 생명 and 삶, which all mean “life” with slightly different meanings Black Lives Matter does not mean all lives don’t matter or that black lives matter more than others. It is the name of an international human rights movement that campaigns against violence and systemic racism toward black people. “Kimbap restaurant chains are the healthy equivalent to fast food joints” I read a great article by Christine Kaaloa (http://grrrtraveler.com)- How to order at a Kimbap Restaurant, the healthy fast food joints in Korea. 김밥 ~ kimbap (gimbap) 김- seaweed 밥- rice 김밥 is a Korean dish made from cooked white rice and a variety of delicious fillings rolled in dried seaweed. It is served in bite-size pieces. 😋😋😋 As a little girl, I was always pleasantly surprised when my mom (adopted from Korea) would bring home 김밥 for us to eat. My whole life we called them “rice rolls” and I never even knew they were exclusively a Korean dish. I remember I tried to order rice rolls at a Japanese restaurant and I got very frustrated when they didn’t understand what I wanted. I recently learned that 김밥 is similar to fast food in Korea. Which continues to blow my mind because when I think of fast food I think of McDonalds hamburgers and fries. But in Korea, 김밥??? 김밥 is fast food?? Now thats a healthy option!! “The meals they sell [in Korea] are often thought of as “simple home foods”, which are made quickly and sold cheaply.”
