Okay, okay, I steal ideas, I quickly fall in love with fanfics... Please please take this for what it's worth, because I love what pops into my head and I can't not share it!

So, this time to suffer fic by @weirdozjunkary (MVA), and I'll write nonsense because I haven't watched Monsters vs Aliens from the word at all, and am following a completely my own plot that will unfold after the second part of the fanfic.

It was a cloudy day in May. It was dank and damp outside, and anyone who needed to go out for business in such weather was sure to wrap themselves in a raincoat or scarf, snorted now and then at the dampness and unpleasant wind.

Sonic, Tails and Shadow were not happy about the weather, so they sat in the GUN base and settled down on Sonic's bed and watched comedies on a homemade movie projector that the fox had made from a ruined microwave (Barry had given it to them). What better way to brighten up a dull, rainy day than with a funny movie and a bag of chips?

Knuckles refused to be entertained, disappearing into a roadside café, eating mugs of delicious hot cocoa and cakes prepared by the owner of the place. Guys did not insist on his choice, and decided to have fun in their own way. And now they watched movies with laughter, exchanging ideas or news every now and then.

But the cozy revelry was suddenly interrupted by General Acorn entering the room.

"–Enough of this nonsense, boys!" she exclaimed nervously, "I have something interesting to show you."

"–Uuuh, we've stopped at the most interesting scene..." Sonic grumbled unhappily, taking his equally frowning friends in his arms and following the chipmunk on his heels. He didn't want to go out his room at all, as the very realization that it was raining outside made him drowsy and drowsy. But he didn't want to disobey orders, and with the thought that GUN it would be worth it to hold off on all sorts of things, Sonic and company entered the observation room.

The General hurried to one of the monitors, giving an order to one of her subordinates.

Plumping herself into a chair, she began clicking hastily on the keyboard.

Finally finding what she needed, she brought up the image on the main screen hanging from the ceiling, large enough for Sonic to look at.

At first, nothing could be seen there but a desolate area: a small lake surrounded by sparse undergrowth. It was taken from a distance, but Sonic recognized the place - it was not far (though one has to figure out what "not far" means to a giant hedgehog...) from one of the small towns west of the GUN base. When he wanted to bask in the sun, Sonic would go there and bask on the soft grass that grew near the pond.

Now the place looked rather bleak, and judging by the swaying trees, it was also windy. Sonic shuddered at the dank sight. The last thing he wanted to do right now was to be there. Shadow and Tails seemed to share his feeling, shiver at little times.

But suddenly guys noticed a strange beam of light coming toward the clearing. It seemed to be some kind of meteorite or comet, but the light grew brighter and brighter, and it was already apparent that some object was flying from the sky at an oblique angle straight toward the waters of the lake. Finally, it crashed into the sand right next to the water, raising a huge column of mud and causing the lake to become very agitated and overflow its banks. At the same moment, the image began to glitch and shake, and finally went out.

"–We installed this camera a week ago so that Ollie" - Sally waved her hand toward one of the employees nervously monitoring some sort of signature on small work computers - "–could monitor the soil conditions in this county, since there have been repeated sightings of sudden flooding or ground instability. But ten minutes ago, we received this video from him."

"–I beg your pardon, ma'am!" shouted one of the soldiers running by "we've just been notified that the object MIGHT be emitting Chaos energy, causing interference throughout the area, but that energy is highly variable, and NOTHING like the signatures of the Chaos Emeralds."

The General looked worriedly at Sonic.

"–Okay Ron, I'll take that under advisement, you may go."

"-Yes, ma'am!"

She turned back to guys again.

"-The object in question may not be an emerald, but we have an obligation to find out its origin."

"- Is there any chance that it was an ordinary meteorite?" Shadow asked.

"Absolutely not. Meteorites have completely different radiation levels, and even if it was one of them, there would be no trace of the lake. Besides, the meteor shower hasn't been predicted for the next four months. I want to send the three of you away to inspect this scene in detail."

Hearing this message, Sonic groaned unhappily. The last thing he wanted to do was go outside in this weather, much less look for anything.

"- Ma'am, why don't you ask someone else to do it, say, send out a search party?"

The General looked at him sternly.

"- No one knows what we'll be facing. Besides, if it's not even an emerald, no one knows how to deal with Chaos energy better than you."-Sonic opened his mouth to speak-"... AND I WON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER! NO ONE CAN HANDLE IT BETTER THAN YOU BOYS, SO LET'S GET TO WORK!"

All three of them left the room and headed down the corridor towards the exit.

They were followed by "...- And please don't forget to take a couple good pictures!!!"

"And why does it have to be us, in this weather?" Sonic said indignantly.

Tails and Shadow silently shared his opinion. They both knew how much the hedgehog hated the cold. Truth be told, they didn't want to run out in the rain to some mysterious meteorite, shivering in the cold and pissing their feet in puddles.

"- Well, at any rate, the sooner we get out, the sooner we get in! We should try and just have a quick look around the place, and we'll be back home.... Unless, of course, something happens..."-Tails broke the silence.

Shadow nodded in agreement.

Ahead of his friends, fox cub went into his workshop. Sonic and Shadow stomped curiously at the entrance, watching him rummage through boxes of junk, sneezing from the dust.

Finally, his face brightened.

"-Hooray, I found it!"-Tails raised the device, which looked like a game joystick with a screen, high above his head.

"-Very good, buddy, but what is it?" inquired Sonic.

"- It's a handheld device for tracking more or less powerful energy sources. It can be used to search for the energy signal of the Chaos Emeralds! I built it for just that purpose, but I haven't had to use it yet. Now I'll tweak it a bit, and we can easily find what we need."

On the occasion of the bad weather, Shadow and Tails had donned raincoats with warm linings. Looking at them, Sonic was quietly envious since GUN hadn't taken care of his warm clothes for such occasions. Seeing his dejected face, the fox cub comfortingly patted the big guy's boot.

"-Let's make this quick and get back home."

Sonic nodded his head.

"-Okay, you're right! There's nothing faster than me anyway."-he hummed.

Stepping outside, hedgehog whinnying as a hail of cold drops rained down on him. Gritting his teeth, Sonic put his friends on his shoulders and sped off.

After only a few minutes, he stopped next to a large crater of sand and mud.

Lowering his buddies to the ground, Sonic began to shake off the moisture fiercely of himself. While he dealt with this procedure, Tales was thoughtfully twiddling one of the buttons on his miracle device.

"These are settings for the beeping sound for better search efficiency," he explained to Shadow, who was looking over his shoulder.

Before they could say anything, Sonic's sneeze rang out across the neighborhood.

"Sorry, guys, I couldn't help it," the hedgehog muttered in confusion. Tails chuckled "–Hey, at least you're wearing a jacket after all!"

The little fox, without answering anything, went back to his search device.

Finally finished, he solemnly moved the gray slider and smiled proudly.

              "BEEP--BEEP--BEEP--BEEP."

"- Wow, not bad for a meteorite!"- Tails even jumped up in surprise. "- I didn't expect the energy to be THIS strong..."

The fox slowly began to slide into the center of the crater.

"- According to my calculations, this energy could very well equate to the power of several emeralds!"

Finally finding himself in the middle of the crater he scratched the back of his head thoughtfully-"- Hmmmm.... Strange... It feels like the source of the signal is elsewhere.... And it's... Moving?!"-Shadow immediately landed next to Tails-"And what does that mean, fox?"

Foxy shook his head thoughtfully-"-I can say with certainty that there's nothing in that funnel."

"So you're saying that the meteorite grew legs and got out of here and went about its business?" Sonic laughed.

Both buddies frowned at him.

Sonic, realizing that his joke was not appreciated, pouted resentfully and walked away.

But suddenly he noticed that the sand around him was cut by a string of strange footprints. They were clearly Mobian, but they were extremely erratic, as if the person getting out of the funnel had been spinning or drunk. The footprints were already half-drenched in rain, but they were still visible. And they led toward the woods.

"- GUYS, I FOUND SOMETHING INTERESTING!"- Sonic took turns picking up his friends in a pinch and placing them near his find.

Immediately a dead silence hung around.

"-Hey guys, don't you think...?" whispered Tails.

Shadow slapped his forehead-"-WHY DIDN'T WE THINK OF THIS SOONER?! WHILE WE WERE GONE, ANYONE COULD HAVE GOTTEN IN HERE AND STOLEN THE EMERALD-"

"-No, wait!" Tails interrupted him excitedly, "This energy is nothing like Chaos! Maybe..."

All three of them looked at each other.

"Does Neo have any relatives?" whispered Sonic.

"LET'S GO FIND HIM BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!" Shadow was the first to rush out of his seat. The others, after a moment's hesitation, rushed after him.

it's so funny getting dms from people on my other blogs that ask why i blocked them because half the time i have no idea

you could post a lot about a ship i don't like. you could be one of those people who tag every single character on a post that only centers one of them (ex. posting knuckles art and tagging tails, rouge, shadow, etc.) you could just have an opinion that i really don't fw. tumblr could've glitched and blocked you on my behalf (<- that has actually happened lmao i was without power&internet for a few weeks one time and came back to having passion blocked 💀) or it could be soemthing else. there's a lot of reasons ill block someone

being blocked by someone really isn't that deep. it doesn't mean i hate your guts or anything, you just have content id rather not see but can't get away from without blocking you.

okay here's my final horizons review that nobody asked for :) the short summary is an overall like 8/10 personally with high highs and low lows to average it all out there, but like . god those highs are high

speaking of i played on hard mode for the entire thing and did not change it a single time so this also influences my perception but like im a loser tryhard sweaty gamer so that probably just added to the positives for me ngl JGKLASDFJL;KS okay anyways

amy gameplay 8/10, tails gameplay 8/10, knuckles gameplay 6/10

i am SO FUCKING SERIOUS WHEN I SAY KNUCKLES WOULD BE LIKE 9/10 IF HE HAD FREE CLIMBING AND WASN'T LIMITED TO THE RED SPOTS like it makes sense in this scenario since he's literally free dlc and like the game wasn't really made with knuckles in mind therefore if he was given free range to climb and shit like SA2 it might be weird or just lead to things you super weren't intended to do etc. BUT like. im just saying. in a perfect world he would be able to climb on all surfaces and that would be more than enough for me to forgive his glide's super wide turns (i already forgive it because it makes sense it's just like. from a player feel perspective)

i can't forgive some of those awful camera angles though it's the same issue i have with sonic when he wall climbs, wall climbing just has bad camera angles that i greatly dislike u__u also i think i was most looking forward to playing as knuckles so i was just kinda disappointed he isn't more punchy i want PUNCHY

amy was super fun to play and would've been a 9 but i am in fact a hammer believer, i know they like at least bring it up in game why she doesn't hammer more but i AM a hammer enjoyer and i think if she had more swingy hammer movesets it would be like. chef's kiss i love her floatiness and tarot cards

tails is tails he's so broken LMAOOOO and the wrench attack shit is genuinely really good and so funny, his entire thing fits perfectly with the fact that he's like, not really a Fighter fighter guy and matches with previous tails gameplay .... but i do still want a homing attack for specifically objects not enemies or something. idk that'd be hard to handle sometimes but that's my single grievance i thought tails was really good he's so cute :)

in general i wish all 3 had more combat options but again. it's free dlc. in the future if they do like sonic adventure 3 or whatever then i'll be more harsh for not having more moves for them like sonic but this is free dlc

sonic gameplay 8.5/10

i'm crazy and i thought the towers were a lot of fun, my favorite WOULD'VE BEEN tower 2 except the pink squares not respawning is genuinely like girl what's wrong with you + tower 5 eked out being my favorite anyways in the end

my favorites in order were 5, 2, 4, 1, and 3 (3 was by far the easiest but also like . i am so not into the wall climbing camera JGKALSDJFKLASDJ and also i had the funny glitch where the boostpad clipped me out of the tower which like, funny but now i have to climb the tower again) i thought these were super fun platforming challenges with the only grievance being they're literally WAY more difficult than anything from base game and so the sudden jump is like actually insane expecting little timmy to play frontiers on like hard mode which is very easy, and then doing this

the combat trials were disappointing bc like. .. the first one had some difficulty to it and then the rest were snzzzz and then suddenly MASTER KING KOCO BABYYYYY but again im insane. and deranged. i thought a time/ring limit boss rush was sick as fuck and perfect parry is what i wished the actual base game parry was so like. yeah. but again the boss fights weren't Made for perfect parry so especially wyvern, figuring out was like harder than necessary since this is something they throw at you with no warning or prior practice in the base game or anything

i had fun though. i had gamer fun and joy. so like <- sick in the head i just felt the thrill of battle and violence and any time i figured out the parry timing/got consistent with it and i was like being the ultimate speedrun gamer it's like. YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also kellin quinn's vocals carried me because god the music never gets old dude that shit pumped me up (helps i only had to fight knight twice and the problem child was just wyvern lol)

AND THE FINAL BOSS .... supreme still lowkey is a very very very very mid boss. and the new THE END doesn't change it a Ton because like after you see the sickass cutscene and stuff, it becomes kind of a mid boss again but with really hype animations and all .... like it's not a hard fight. it's just ... jank .... the controls feel kinda wonky when you're trying to target the tube .... the camera is weird because it's so easy for sonic to not be visible from all the trees, so while parrying the meteors isn't hard it's just like ... why would you do this to me

final boss fight itself is like 7/10 carried by the visuals and setting, but then the end of the boss fight is like WHOOOOOOOOOOO FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH LETS GOOOOO I FUCKING LOVE SONIC THE HEDGEHOG YYEAHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHH so like overall good dlc imo

What makes Sonic Adventure 1&2 your favorite?

i learned my lesson that im too wordy for tumblr and had copy pasted almost everything to word pad.

grew up with them and they have things that touched and/or surprised me as a kid

i have a lot of feelings for e 102 gamma, and sonic adventure 1 itself has a really… specific "exploration" feel to me that stemmed a lot from not really understanding that game devs dont always develop a bunch of extra stuff? this is hard to explain but i didnt treat the world as like… "it makes sense that they made this portion because it has this use mechanically or storywise" it felt more like trying to find secrets in a world where there would (in my mind) be entire swathes of things behind a closed door or something

i think it also helped that sa1 as a game is kind of … disconnected in some ways the flow of progression on where to go and why isnt always the most intuitive (hence little hint orbs around if you get lost)

i didn't really understand in a way that made the game really fascinating also, it helps that i did find weird glitches, like i clipped into the sonic version of a level as knuckles i love the music, i do like the story a lot too, the base concept (replaying levels and stories in ways that focus on different characters (with some contradictions like who won where)) was cool to me

i gravitated a lot as a kid to things that felt like they had logic to them, i just couldnt see what it was just yet i think with sa1 it was easy for me to feel that feeling because sonic was basically a cartoon (what i spent all day watching since my parents were busy) that i could play

theres a solemness to some aspects of sa1 i also really appreciate like… idk… knuckles gives me feelings he's tricked but also he's… alone and just very focused on his goals i don't know there's a lot of breathing room in some ways also the way eggman's voice lines when you play as tails is so much more… like… Negative or scary is a good touch tail's theme can make me cry sometimes

sonic adventure 2 doesnt have hub world exploration and the music is different but i still really liked the story and music i worked really hard to get all 180 emblems in the game (i never managed to get all the emblems in sa1 i think…) i wrote the date i got all the emblems down somewhere

i felt like… when i was a kid it was really hard for me to "understand" story beats? like i watched aladdin so much as a kid that the vhs tape broke, but i didn't really "understand" everything was connected

i think sa2 was something where it actually truly connected for me and i was shocked at the characterization of shadow i really really liked him there is such a huge feeling in… seeing a character do something because they care about someone else and their words… and when shadow realizes he had been misremembering maria's words and wishes, he changes so the care felt real it didn't feel like using maria, it didn't feel like shadow just solely used maria to fuel his own hatred once he understood maria didnt feel the way he thought, he changed how he felt because he genuinely did want to care about what maria felt

it was something that would have touched me as a child a lot, because i was around people who claimed to care but… didn't it felt like i could feel "this is care in a way i would want to experience" or something like that

i cried so much at the end

truthfully i just really appreciate when things are taken seriously but also like… in this way that is not Gritty Realism

okay this video is funny but its the first thing i thought of when he says "alright 1 second" and he leaves and INSTANTLY is back… thats not realistic, but its communicating a feeling AND being economical in what is shown? you dont have to see him make the whole cup of hot chocolate (And actually that would break the entire thing if you did see that)

its moving through what is "important" for what is trying to be communicated, wherein something is "believable" to the action you're trying to show

the dog rockets over to bugs, knocks into him, and theyre entangled

bugs bunny instantly plays with the situation by pretending theyre locked in a romantic embrace this isnt "realistic" but bugs bunny is making it believable! he's playing wit hthe emotional logic of the scene in a moment where the dog would be in a transitional state (confused from knocking into bugs) but bugs doesn't forget the actual stakes, and instantly scrams the moment he sees marvin the martian approach (while the dog reaches for bugs bunny, completely believing the emotional logic bugs had set up earlier)

while marvin is angry at the dog, bugs is able to use this to trick marvin too, wherein marvin's emotional attention is on the dog, so he's not really… checking what happens very thoroughly bugs knows marvin wants to blow up the earth so gives him a special delivery that would work with what marvin wants

he's just… constantly using emotional states and understanding to change the flow of what others do in relation to him (or in this case, earth)

its not "realistic", its "believable" for the character in question (the dog or marvin)

so i feel like… sonic adventure 2 had levels of… unrealism but "believable" for me especially as a kid the emotions felt like things i could understand and follow (like the cartoon characters following bugs bunny's emotional cues) even if they were a bit disjointed at times or outlandish (somethings in the story are definitely. outlandish, moreso if you're someone who wants really particular realism in your stories so something like cartoon animals interacting with the president of the united states is already pushing it)

i got a weird glitchy chao by transferring a chao between games on the dreamcast and he had S ranks in everything i loved him … then my game froze

this is probably the bitchiest and most nitpickey thing i will ever post but

i disagree on a fundamental level with almost every single leaderboard placement in this image.

the rest of this is under the cut bc im going to ramble for so long here. also, i need to put a disclaimer im not actually that mad i just dont think the placements make sense.

im aware that this is the "i dont like that sonics arms are blue, i hate sonics new shoes" kind of crazed sonic fan ramblings. but i do not care. this is like a he would not fucking say that situation to me. except its a they would not fucking place that if they all played video games situation.

SHADOW. DOES NOT KNOW WHAT A VIDEO GAME IS. YOU CANNOT LOOK ME IN THE EYE AND TELL ME SOMEBODY FROM THE 50S WOULD GET THIRD PLACE.

KNUCKLES. IS 1. WEARING BOXING GLOVES. AND 2. ALSO HAS LIKELY NEVER PLAYED A VIDEO GAME! HE GREW UP ON A REMOTE ISLAND! THEY DID NOT BRING HIM FORTNITE! you can make the argument that he has since played video games after becoming friends with sonic. but fifth place? he played his first video game at age 16 and youre telling me he beat amy? and tangle? and rouge who, im still not over this, IS CHEATING??

but i digress. im going to give my own ideal placements and reasoning for all of them.

OK; my reasoning for each of these is as follows.

Big is funny and it would be funny if he beat everybody else, its unexpected. its a good joke.

Tails is tech-savvy, i wouldnt be surprised if he knew a few glitches and some speedrun tech. he also likely has good control and experience with playing.

Rouge is literally cheating. the only reason she isnt first is because i think she doesnt play video games that often so she is at a disadvantage on pure technical skill, and also she is sitting upside down (not pictured)

Tangle just seems like a gamer to me. She is a normal person who plays video games in her free time and so she knows how to play fairly well.

Sonic, by all means, SHOULD be in sixth, however i cannot in my mind separate sonic from being a gamer. i know he likely barely plays because he spends his time outdoors and travelling, but sonic being in sixth is so viscerally wrong to me that i had to put him in fifth. its the highest i could justify.

Amy, by all means, SHOULD be in fifth, however, in the image she is raging (not pictured) so i feel that she would be playing worse than usual. shes a normal person who i can see playing video games sometimes.

Cream is a normal kid who i think plays video games fairly often. her mom probably has screen time limits or something but cream is playing minecraft when she can. she is only this low because she is six years old. gemerl is giving her strategy tips. she would be much higher if she had fully developed fine motor skills.

Shadow and Knuckles i can really see being flipped, however, i just see Shadow being a teensy bit higher. While i think shadow knows less about video games, i think he would do better while playing since he has perfect reflexes and also isnt wearing boxing gloves. but i must stress both he and Knuckles are dogshit at video games.

Knuckles could be swapped with Shadow, but, despite knowing more and having possibly played a game or two before, Knuckles is wearing boxing gloves which are bad for gaming, and despite having warrior reflexes due to his training, he really cant beat the ultimate lifeform reflex kind of junk. but again, it could go either way, they both suck at video games.

Jet loses because its funny if he loses. same thing as Bigs. good joke, 10/10 i have no notes.

and thats it. that is my ideal ranking. it will forever slightly piss me off that the official sonic the hedgehog "which characters are gamers" lore does not fit with my interpretations of them. but what can you do.

After the fiasco with Classic Amy Rose (See story for further details!), Boom!Sonic began to wonder about this… secret code he doesn’t recognize in himself. Mostly because it seems odd to him, a code he was born with, but that the other Sonics had gotten through Japanese Sonic regaining his original data…

He rubbed his chest, sitting on top of his favorite employee’s cubicle in one of the many office levels of SEGA.

He stared off into space, but clearly was distraught and troubled with a comical look of annoyance on his face. He couldn’t quite understand which part of him was different from the other Sonics… and that difference seemed to frustrate him.

The spotlight was taken from him after Classic Amy appeared, so of course, he wasn’t quite sure what this ‘orange’ and ‘new’ code really was, only that it was causing a lot of ruckus among the other characters…

Especially for Genesis… (*Note: Nickname of Classic Sonic.)

With Modern American and Japanese Sonic handling whatever it was that made Classic Amy such a big deal, Boom!Sonic laid back and tried to relax.

He didn’t want to think about it, but…

The way Classic Sonic reacted to seeing her… the way he reacted when coming in contact with her… what made her so important or special that the code activated like that? And how was he programmed or born with it already!?

He groaned, rubbing his hands with powerful scratches to ruff up his quills on his head and kick his legs up, coming down to flop on either side of the cubicle and look utterly miserable.

The employee looked up with a raised eyebrow, smiling. “Something wrong, Sonic?”

“Eh, it’s nothing.” Sonic lied, liking the employee for his sense of humor, not so much for his sense of unyielding curiosity…

“Ohh..?” The Employee leaned back from his hunched stance at the computer, rocking his chair slightly as he moved back to get a better view of Sonic. “Pining for anyone..?”

Boom!Sonic stuck out his tongue. “That’s for my Gramps to worry about.” (*Note: I hope these don’t bother you, but for those who don’t know, there are Sonics all over the world, wherever a SEGA hub is. Japanese Sonic is the original Sonic and has special powers because of that. The other Sonics are thereby known affectionately as the ‘Sons’ of the Original Sonic. Sonic Boom is a creation derived from the American branch of SEGA, making Boom!Sonic the first Grandchild to Japanese Sonic -not including anything but the games- and making American Sonic the first Sonic to have a ‘kid’ so to speak.)

“Haha! You’re the one born with the ‘data of love’ son.” The man laughed, wiping an imaginary tear from his eye, then moving up back to his computer. “Maybe you should talk to your Amy? She may know more about what’s going on.”

“I could care less about getting involved in drama.” Sonic stuck a finger in his ear, twisting it a bit as he closed his eyes and looked aloof from it all.

“…Do you really not care about what’s happening with the Amys?”

His finger stopped turning in his ear.

“I mean… a lot of them are glitching… all over the place. Don’t you worry your Amy might suffer the same fate? If you’re not aware of what’s going on lately..?”

His eyes rose open just barely…

The light of SEGA’s offices was just about blinding to a normal human eye, but to an AI system, he could just stare at it for a while and blur out his eye focuses…

“…I’m born with the data.” He leaned up, pulling his feet towards him and balancing a little funnily on the halved wall he was on. “…She should be fine from the effects.”

“You sound so confident. Don’t you want to be sure?” He looked up, pushing further as Boom!Sonic looked down with a bit of an upset face.

“What happened to all your funny one-liners?”

“What happened to all your sense of adventure?”

“Tsk. I’m still Sonic!”

“Then act like him. Go on an adventure with your girl!”

“…She’s not my girl.” He grumbled, pouting and looking away, growing a bit nervous and lowering his voice now.

The man across from his favorite employee’s desk chuckled slightly.

“Wha!? Is everyone ease dropping on me!?” Sonic looked all around.

The other employees were all covering their mouths, trying to remain absolutely quiet but unable to hold in a chuckle.

“Geez…” He seemed very shy now, not liking the joke to be on himself…

“As you said, my friend.” His fav employee looked back up to him with a cheeky grin. “You are Sonic The Hedgehog. You were made for entertainment. We’re just enjoying you performing your proper function.”

Everyone burst out then, and Sonic grew frustrated, jumping up and stomping a foot down on the wall, still gaining a good sense of balance, “I’m Sonic Boom! I’m meant to be attracted to funny things!”

“Ouch, I feel bad for Amy!”

The entire office started howling in laughter, and finally, Sonic quit.

He jumped down, racing off to find a better place to lounge.

While he did so, he thought about what he had said… about the glitches…

He wasn’t around during that time, but he knew it was a thing.

A very hard thing apparently…

Video Game Characters don’t really experience ‘permeant’ death… so having so many Amys…

It was just uncomprehendable to him. To lose a friend…

He dived into the nearest computer, seeing Knuckles and Boom!Knuckles playing ping-pong in the employees break room, and not wanting to really be disturbed too much right now.

However, he stuck out like a sore thumb in the Virtual World, and it was only a matter of time before Boom!Tails started noticing his odd behavior.

“Want to play Tomatopotmus?”

“…Sure.”

They spent a while playing, but Tails would happily look over and see Sonic looking depressed, sighing a lot.

“…Want to try and scare Sticks by setting off some of her booby traps?”

“Eh.”

Tails raced through the elaborate but basically designed traps Sticks had set up, laughing as Sticks raced out with tin cans on her head and waving a piece of foil like it was a shield out in front of her. But when he turned back to see Sonic, Sonic had already raced through the traps and was sitting on a tree branch, looking out at the world and groaning, hunching his shoulders up. “Ooh…”

“Uhh… Sandcastles?”

“ALIENS!”

“…Whatever.”

Finally, Tails had enough. He threw down his shovel he was using to make a sandcastle as Sonic barely strained his arm to place a leaf stuck through the stick to the top.

“That’s it! I know you’re worried about what’s happening in Japan! So, spill! What do you want to talk about?”

“Huh?” Boom!Sonic shook his head, “No I’m not! I wasn’t even thinking about Amy!”

“…So you do care about the glitching stuff!” Tails leaned back, looking relieved to finally hear it. “I was worried you were never going to talk about it…”

“It’s just…” Sonic gestured his hands up, and then got up himself, walking a bit down the beach… “I was just born, and suddenly I find out my data isn’t the same as the other Sonics. Something in me is the cure-all to all the Amys glitching, and since I was born with it, I don’t resist it like the other Sonics do.” He spun back around to Tails. “So-!?!? Does that mean I’m not a real Sonic???”

“What are you talking about? Of course you’re a Sonic!” Tails looked confused, getting up and dusting the sand off himself.

“The code SEGA was so uncertain about is being preserved in you! You don’t ever have to worry about our Amy glitching from your actions.” He said this as if it was science, but the true impact of them hit Sonic, and he stepped back, his face turning a new shade of white.

“…Sonic?”

He scanned the ground.

“Tails… Does that mean…” an immense sadness suddenly poured over Sonic, and he gripped his chest again,… feeling the code spark a reaction… or something inside him. “Sonics really are destroying Amys?”

“…Oh, Sonic.” Tails suddenly realized what his words meant to him. “Of course not. I’m sorry, I-I didn’t say it right!” he waved his hands out in protest to Sonic’s thinking, but Sonic continued.

“No, no. That’s what you said. That’s what everyone is saying.” Sonic turned away, waving a hand out to show Tails he didn’t want to argue about this.

“If those programmers didn’t salvage what they did… then that means I would be putting Amy at risk too. Just as much as the other Sonics are when they choose not to follow the old data— new data..?—Whatever data’s pathways!” He seemed to be getting upset, forming fists and holding them out in front of himself.

“I can’t imagine it… Being the sole reason Amy hurts…”

“Glitches aren’t exactly painful. They rewire the system. If there’s not a path or reaction to take, the system either freezes, crashes, or… becomes corrupted…” Tails lowered his ears, reaching out for Boom!Sonic, but pulling away to leave the topic at that.

“…Have you talked with her recently?”

“…”

“Are you too afraid too?”

“Pfft! Me? Afraid?” Sonic turned to look over his shoulder, shrugging his arms out and acting confident… before it faded instantly.

“I’m terrified.”

“You can’t hurt her though!” Tails raced right back up to his side, shifting to be beside his melancholy friend. “That data… the data that reacted so kindly to Classic Amy’s return… it only proves that you have the key to keeping her from glitching! You’re safe to be around, Sonic! I’m sure Amy feels the same way… she probably misses you too. You’re her friend!”

“Ha! With how my other mes are reacting!?” Sonic pointed to the virtual sky, gesturing to the outside and real world. “Tails, I think we all know where there headed.” He shook his head.

“They’re trying to protect their Amys and save them from the same fate as American Amy…” Boom!Tails tried to explain, before looking away and gripping his arm. “Look… you may think it’s strange… but I’m glad you’re able to have data that allows you and Amy to interact normally and how you should be like… it means… well, that the past actions of the Original Sonic won’t affect the future from here on out.”

Sonic looked back to Tails, “Tails…” his eyes bent a little.

“You’re never usually worried about drama or things like this… but I can tell that when disappearing and never returning are at stake… you really do care about all us. And I know that if you speak to Amy… you’ll realize that code is the key to healing everything that’s been happening around us lately. She may need as much comforting as you do, Sonic…”

“Comforting?” Sonic was about to make another comeback, just something to combat revealing so much feeling but…

He looked away, closing his mouth. “…Yeah. I should find her. You know, to make sure she’s holding up well with her Sisters and Mom all in array like this…” he rubbed under his nose, looking up as the computer’s cylinder rose up from the sand in black and green highlights.

“SONIC BOOM HEDGEHOG.”

“Identity confirm.” Sonic looked a bit annoyed, folding his arms.

“What do they want now?” Boom!Tails looked a little suspicious of its appearance as well, looking like it barged in on their ‘heart-to-heart’, or close to it, conversation.

“IDENTITY CONFIRM THROUGH IDENTIFICATION CODE.”

“Ugh.” Sonic let his head drop behind him before bringing it back up again and stating some digits with significant meanings.

“CONFIRMED. SONIC BOOM HEDGEHOG. MESSAGE FROM: AMY BOOM ROSE.”

“Woah! This thing can send text messages!?” Tails looked genuinely surprised.

Sonic’s eyes widened.

“REQUESTING PERMISSON TO OPEN?”

“Denied.” Sonic raced away.

“Hey!” Tails flew up, “Ohh… Why can’t I hear it too!?” he threw a mini-tantrum in the air, “SOOONNNIIICCC!!!” he called, but ended up giving up, deciding to tinker with his inventions and…

Suddenly gained an idea. “Heyyy…” in a wicked grin, he rubbed his hands together, snickering…

Sonic raced to the outside world, popping out and looking around the empty room to some manager’s private office.

He typed some things in the computer and the voice came back on, along with the green light.

“SONIC BOOM HEDGEHOG. YOU HAVE ONE MESSAGE. CONFIRM READ NOW. DENY READ LATER. ERASE ALL MESSAGES-“

“Confirm read now.” Sonic looked nervous… his eyes scanned the flowing words as they began to type up upon the screen…

“Dear Sonic,… I know a lot has happened between the other Sonics and Amys… okay, a whole lot! I mean, we were just born and now we’re being told we have some mysterious data that the Originals hid away and-???? Yeah, it’s messed up. But I’m really kinda happy about it… I mean, not about the other Amys glitching! Goodness, no! Gosh… Wait, are you still recording my words? Ah!!! No, delete, delete! Oh man… this is a disaster…”

Sonic smiled.

“Anyway, I just wanted to say that how you spoke to Classic Amy… the way you treated her… it was so gentle and kind. I’ve never seen that side of you. I mean, we’ve had only two games and then a television show b-but… I have noticed… how much… kinder you are than what the other Sonics seem to be like towards their Amys. Not that they don’t care about them! But I can’t help but feel we’re somehow… different. Not exactly closer, but able to be good friends and act like it, you know? Maybe that is closer… maybe I don’t know cause I live within our relationship and can’t see it from another’s perspective? I don’t even know if my code could… look, I’m worried about my Mom and Grandma… but the truth is… I honestly just want to be around you more. I want to learn what that new code is and see where it takes us. Opps, that sounded romantic. Backspace, backspace? Can’t I start over? Ugh! Stupid machine! BAM! Ugh! Stop recording! Okay, okay, fine! I don’t care how you take this! I just want to talk and feel safe! I’m…”

Sonic held his virtual breath in.

“I’m scared too… about the future. If Amys come out as threats to the company I… I just want to know I lived a really good life with you… you know? Okay, that turned morbid. Not that I’m going to die or anything! Okay, this is stupid, please turn off! Cancel! Operation over! Where is the Task Manager on this thing!?!? MESSAGE ENDED. WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY IT AGAIN? DELETE MESSAGE? REPLY TO MESSAGE-“

“Reply.” Sonic cleared his throat, placing both hands over on the sides of the computer, leaning his head down and trying to think of his words carefully…

“MESSAGE RECORDING IN 3… COUNTDOWN 2… BEEP.”

“…Dear… Amy.” He found himself pausing… and quickly tried to take a breath and just not stress over this so much…

What he didn’t see, was that a device was sent to the real world, and was hidden in the darkness of the room, under the table as it looked around a moment.

“Ehem… I know that a lot of talk about glitching and stuff is going on… but I want you to know something…” He didn’t want to tell her how scared he was too. That the unknown of what was befalling SEGA really did bother him. He wanted her to feel the safety she mentioned in the message. He wanted to help her know he wasn’t running from her with his tail between his legs…

“That just because other Sonics can’t seem to get a grip on their relations with Amy Rose…” He brought out that orange code, feeling it soar through his being and calm him…

It was… soothing, and he smiled at it. He didn’t know exactly what it was, but it was what assured Boom!Amy of her life, her future, and her very existence depended on him not rejecting it like the other Sonics did.

“That you will and forever always be… my friend.”

“BEEP-OP-REE…. I sincerely want you to trust me.”

“WHAT!?” Sonic flinched, moving back, “Is that..? UT!” he glared, looking below his feet.

“BEE-REE-OP… Stupid, Robot! Don’t spoil my heroic moment.”

“HEY!”

“I’m not happy that you’re revealing the words of which I so carefully planned to be concealing the truth of how afraid I am to admit I fear what no other Sonic has ventured to undertake.”

Sonic tensed up.

He was too afraid to speak further of what that could mean…

He turned to the screen, kicking UT into a trashcan as he wobbled in with robotic noises of discomfort.

“As I was saying…” a faint pink was barely noticed upon his cheek… “Let’s not run from the possibly of disaster.” He took courage… gripping the courage code as it soared in a river like line from his chest… “We don’t need to worry about a future that won’t ever be. We are different. We’re gonna be the example to all the Sonics and Amys out there! That whatever this code does to me… it’s meant to be specifically for you. And specifically, for how we’re supposed to be around together. How we can be around each other… Amy, I don’t want you feeling afraid. Not when there’s no reason to—so!” He reached through the computer, “So… Take my hand! Just…”

The computer seemed to fizz a bit.

“Trust me! And help me trust you! That no matter what, we’re gonna make whatever this is… work!”

A hand suddenly gripped his own.

“H-huh?” His eyes widened.

“MESSAGE SENT. USER AMY BOOM ROSE ONLINE. CHAT ROOM ENGAGED.”

“Wha..?”

He felt the hand… he could feel the texture of her data seeping through…

He rubbed his thumb a moment over it, feeling how loose it was from forming into her, and turned the hand to realize that it was waiting…

He grinned.

“Alright… I’ll pull you out then!” he tugged.

Boom!Amy came soaring out of the computer, causing the two to tumble to the ground in the dark office room.

Her eyes were full of blobby tears. “Did you mean it..? Do you really think we can be totally normal and not have to worry about all these scary glitching problems..?”

He was a little hesitant at first, but the orange code was still burning neon, and he smiled and put an arm around her, the other coming up to give her a thumbs up.

He winked, “I sure do. Let’s just have fun, Amy! No more crying… alright?” he looked a little troubled at seeing her so upset and took his thumb—still up and ready to do the job—to gently remove the tear.

The willing action of tenderness touched her, and she felt her heart skip a beat as her data reacted to his own…

She laughed.

Placing her forehead to his own, he nervously leaned away, before dipping into the intimate space and smiling as she laughed in relieved joy.

“BEEEEEEP-BOOP-BOOP… Let’s fall in love.”
